I just popped in to get holiday store hours and decided to check out reviews for this special store. Scrolled down the page to find a very nasty review and felt compulsed to react to it! Ive been using this store for approaching 30 years. In all that time my overall experience here has been used as a yardstick for how a "customer oriented" retail floor should be ran. You walk in,walk down an isle....a "Can I help you?" from a full staff is almost always there. You can ask for something that has some specialized need and if its really unusual (Im infamous for that!)....they get your "need/use info" from you and work with you to brainstorm a solution. They stock "the little things of life" (that can hold up a project) and you dont have to buy a prepackaged box of "Costco proportions" either. Due to "Grow or be left behind." concerns, they have now moved to a much larger new building (Old one is now being dismantled to put in a Walgreens). I remember when I learned of this move, I voiced concerns of the new building holding on to the old strengths. I received a truthful reply of that being a concern for them too, and they were working hard to make sure that as much of "the old" was retained as possible while growing into something better. Several visits later....the store is still showing some diminishing growing pains, but you know what? "Can I help you?" has not changed one bit and even though Im still learning this "different store", I see progress with each visit towards their goal. Sorry for the long review, I have no association with this store, have no personal friendships with staff....I was just perplexed on the isolated bad review and wanted to stick up for a store (who spent $10.00 worth of time) to make sure my windshield wiper motor was properly fixed for my safety....total purchase 67 cents. Appreciate the box stores for what they are. Appreciate Johnsons for what they have been...and apparently always will be. Go Johnsons!

First impressions apon walking in the door is that this place feels a lot like the small "hometown" hardware stores that are hard to find any more. They even have complementary popcorn and coffee (and for non-coffee drinkers, one can grab a soda from the fridge for only 50 cents). Theres also plently of knowledgable help roaming around. Ive always found help much easier here than at large warehouse stores such as the Home Depot down the road. What sets Johnsons apart from the typical small hardware store is selection. Many times Ive gone to Home Depot down the street hoping for a one-stop-shop and have had to leave without my shopping list complete just to find that Johnsons had everything that was on my list - and for a competitive price! Ive learned to make Johnsons my first stop. The only thing they lack (They have a rental place and a wood-working store next door) is a lumber yard. However, a simple trip across the street to TRM can quickly solve all your lumber needs. Also, I am NOT nor have ever been, nor will not likely ever be, an employee of Johnsons. Im just a local whos recently tried (more than once or twice) the new Home Depot and as a result, have found even more appreciation for the local hardware store.

I never write reviews but I have to for this one... I live in the neighboring City and frequently go to Johnsons over Home Depot. The majority of the time the prices are the same or higher than other hardware stores but you can also find really good deals and items that you cant find in other stores. The best thing about Johnsons is a little gem called Amy! She works in the home and garden area and is the best customer service person I have ever met! Not only does she have outstanding customer service skills, she is very knowledgeable in all things gardening. When I thought taking me to the items I asked about and answering a few questions of mine was enough, Amy took it a step further! She explored ideas with me and spent time looking around at different things that might fit well in the garden I described to her. I probably spent a good 35 minutes talking, walking and going over things. Not only that, she did the heavily lifting and saw me all the way to my truck! It was incredible, the skills and generosity she possesses!

I shop here whenever I need hardware, paint, wild birds feeders and food. They have everything for the home and yard. They also have a very large cooler full of old fashioned soda in glass bottles. Really great selection. I find their paint to be wonderful to use and they have colors that match what Im looking for. I have never met any employees that werent super friendly and helpful. A year ago my mom hit a curb in their parking lot and popped her tire. A worker saw the whole thing. As she pulled into a stall he came over and asked if she was alright, he then said "do you have a spare?" She said yes and he said let me take care of this for you I just need to go tell my boss. His boss brought her some water while the kind worker put a new tires on for her. Great people, great local place to shop.

I stopped by Johnsons and it was right at closing. I had not come in the door yet, and had asked a worker who was out collecting carts what time they had closed, when she said 8 I turned around to go back to my car. She asked what I needed, when I said I needed a key cut she invited me in, ( she had to unlock the doors which by this time had been locked). I have worked retail so I hate to be "that" customer that comes in at close, I was happy to come back the next day. She told me not to waste the gas and come on in, I had a key cut in a few minutes. The entire staff there has been extremely friendly every time I have been there. They also pack a ton of stuff into that store. If you cannot find it somewhere else, come look here they probably have it.

After having a string of terrible experiences at the local Home Depot, Ive decided that I will only be shopping at Johnsons from here on out. I was in their store 4 to 5 times a day over the long weekend, and every single time I was met by somebody who knew what they were talking about, wanted to help me, and seem to care that my home projects done successfully. I would highly recommend this company to anybody who needs to get anything for their home. The people who work there are nice to my kids, make great recommendations, and are quick to help you. I literally cannot say enough good things about this company. Ill be there customer for life!

OK, so this and Mclendons are the only competitors to each other. Like Home Depot, Lowes, Ace, Not Even NEAR the radar of competition. McLendons and Johnsons have awesome staff and smart individuals. The level of intricate tools and inventory, Johnsons beats out Mclendons. 1) the got a rental center, 2) they have a dedicated Woodworking section (WITH japanese planes and saws) 3) they have off the wall items, like reverse-threaded bolt for a specific lawn mower brand, or fire pit inserts. 2 things Mclendons didnt have that Johnsons did. Only thing that sucks is that they have 1 location. But I drive out here, worth it.
