This place is awesome! Would absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking for an amazing piece of art work to be done! I was there about a month ago to get a memorial piece for my sister who passed. We scattered some of her ashes at the Va Beach fishing Pier on 14th street and so I wanted to get a heart shaped landscape piece looking at the ocean with the pier and a sunset in the background. I went to this place and asked if anyone was available to do it that day, and @pudge_the_tattooer (instagram) said he would take it on. He said that he would really like to have another day to draw up some sketches for such an important tattoo. Unfortunately I do not live at the beach, about 2 hours from it, so I said i really wanted it done today and he said okay come back at 7! So I did and the sketch was exactly what I pictured it to be so he put it on and the color came out so beautiful! It is a traditional style tat with different hues of blue in the ocean, a beautiful sunset with red, orange and yellow hues, and the pier came out just as great! He added three forget me knot flowers at the bottom of the heart to tie it all together! I am so happy I chose to go to this place and could not be happier with my heart tattoo <3

I loved this place! After searching tattoo shops in the VB/Norfolk area all day, I finally stumbled upon this shop. I walked in and was actually greeted and was spoken to like a person. The staff was helpful and answered all my questions honestly. It was like a family in there, every one was involved in my tattoo which was absolutely amazing because you dont find that at many places. My tattoo came out just like I had visioned. Excellent services to compliment excellent tattoo work!!! Already planning my next tattoo and there is no hesitation that this is where Ill go. Finally found my tattoo "home". Dont make my mistake, let Independence Tattoo be your first choice, not your last. Thank you Indepenece Tattoo!

Great shop. All the artists are exceptional in talent and in professionalism. Patrick Loud has done several pieces for me and I have yet to walk away disappointed... I cant say Ive ever seen anything Id be ashamed of talent-wise walk out of any of the other artists booth either. Now as far as what I would put on my body? Thats individual choice ;) Everything is clean, needles and equipment are sterile. This isnt a shop that I ever question my safety in. All the guys working here are super cool and personable. It has the old-school open booth layout, which can be a little intimidating if youre shy, but seriously, give it a go. Id rather not be closed into a dirty little closet with some random dude I dont know.

I have been getting tattooed by Patrick Loud for the past 5 years; from Los Angeles to Connecticut to Virginia. His style, creativity and application is nothing short of mind blowing. I give him a couple references and verbalize an idea and/or meaning, and BOOM, he not only nails it, but he far surpasses my expectations. His work on me (as well as an article) has been featured multiple times in Inked and Inked Girls Magazine. Not only is his tattooing awesome, hes obsession with sanitation is another huge plus! I have been to Independence tattoo multiple times in the past year. They do very good work and many of my friends go there. I have had several pieces done by Armand and he does very good quality work, very reasonably priced. I normally come in with an idea and he always makes it better than I imagined. He even did a memorial tattoo for a friend of mine that another shop gave me a hard time about and made it look amazing. Ive gotten so many compliments on all his work. Im always well taken care of there. I would recommend the shop and Armand to anyone looking to get a tattoo, especially those new to the experience.

Had a word tattooed on the side of my hand by the young black artist. He never introduced himself so I dont know his name. I think he was more concerned with hitting on me than giving me a quality tattoo. The "L" looked too much like the "E" and I had to have him fix it and make the 2 "S" look more alike. Lines were a bit shaky. Wouldnt recommend this artist. Charged $5 credit card fee. Would liked to have known before tattoo so I could have got cash. Besides that, love the atmosphere and old time music. Clean but not professional from my experience.

I recently visited the shop to have a tattoo cover-up where I met Jon aka Sillyy. He saw my mess and I gave him my floral idea. Everything else was all him. He took my idea and turned it into a detailed master piece. He is genuinely concerned about the experience you receive and to make sure the end result looks fantastic. Not only will I be going back but, I mean it when I say check them out. New location off of Newtown Rd and Princess Anne in the little yellow building. The shop is clean and has an overall relaxed atmosphere.

Perfect street style shop located super close to the Naval Base. Super clean and professional and the artists are well versed in all types of tattooing styles. This promises to be the go to shop for everyone around the 7 cities. Tattoo artists with condescending attitudes and unfriendly service are becoming a thing of the past and in this new service based tattoo game, so come where the artists are friendly and open to discussing a new, a retouched or a total revamped tattoo with you.

This was the most fun Ive had getting tattooed. Everyone at Independence Tattoo is friendly and super talented. Patrick Loud took his time and created a beautiful custom piece for me that exceeded my expectations. He is professional and funny and is an incredible artist. I spent 5 years looking for a shop here in Hampton Roads and I can assure you this is the best and you wont be disappointed.

Came in here on a whim and was overly pleased with the work Patrick LOUD did. He truly does have hands of an angel, both he and his colleague where fun and added to the experience.
