I would give it negative stars if I could! Like the other review by Jeremy said, the security here are ridiculous and they stopped him for simply wearing a backpack! (Really?!?!) I went in here to pay my phone bill at MetroPCS and on the way back to my car in the parking garage, a security guy on a bike approached and asked "do you have a car here?" and I said yes and he said "good, good". I asked if everything is okay and he said "yeah", so I continued to walk to my car. He proceeded to ride next to me on his bike, asking what level my car was on and I told him I couldnt remember. He proceeded to follow me to my car, where two other bike riding security guards were waiting. They all cornered me and asked me what I was doing there. I told them I just paid my phone bill at MetroPCS, so I asked him what the problem is and he said "we have a big problem with people parking here, walking across the street to the shelter and buying drugs". I told the guy that I definitely dont do drugs, I havent crossed the street and had even spent money at their establishment. He apparently didnt believe me, because he then asked for my ID. I told him I know my rights and that he has no right to ask me for identification. He followed with "well a Salt Lake City police officer will be here soon and Id rather get it this way". So I told this security guard that I know my rights, I will be leaving and that he has no right to detain me in any way, shape or form. I got in my car and left. I will NEVER set foot in this crappy establishment again. Their security is over the top and WAY out of control. I dont care what problem they are dealing with, they have absolutely NO right in treating someone this way and especially not a customer. I will never go here again and will tell all of my friends and family to avoid this mall like the plague. I guess maybe because I hadnt shaved in a couple days, had a little scruff on my face and dont look like a rich, white Mormon (but I was wearing a north face coat and 150$ Montrail shoes) is why they treated me like I was some sort of criminal. Im a law abiding, honest and hard working citizen. Dont judge a book by its cover Gateway mall, shame on you. I almost feel like I was profiled in some way and am considering talking to the ACLU about this incident to see what can be done. DO NOT GO TO THE GATEWAY. Im going to post/copy/share this review on the internet, FAR and WIDE and to let people know how The Gateway treats its PAYING customers. Not okay.

So I just recently had an awful experience here, I purchased shoes for about $16 dollars. I work in retail and was shocked at how bad this was. I was getting ready to check out, and apparently the store had a promo that if you text a number you get 10% off. So I asked oh whats this and I believe she was either a manager or some kind of management but she acted like it wasnt a big deal, and that it was a bother to her. The dialogue could have went something like this, "Oh hey if you want to save 10% you can text this number and I can add that to this transaction." So after I finished the purchase I wore the shows to my shift which is four hours and they hurt my feet so badly I absolutely hated them, and they were made of poor quality. I bought the right size but they hurt for some odd reason. I decided to return them the next day which I didnt think would be a problem right? Wrong! I went to return them, and it was a new girl working which wasnt the big deal. My problem was whoever was helping her was a complete witch, she told me that they couldnt be returned because they are worn, I told her how I purchased them the day before and hurt my feet. She then decides to finish the return. She then finishes ringing me up and says "Next time you purchase something here make sure you want to keep it." I will never return to this Wet Seal as long as I live, and its not what she said its more her attitude that made me upset about it. If you are a manager of any kind you should treat every customer with the highest respect regardless of why they want to return something.

Its not that i dont like it,per se,it just that it has its panties on a little too tight. Security can be friendly and helpful some days;judgemental and rude on others. If you carry a blue banket, you will be treated less than, like you have no worth or reason to exist. One afternoon,my wife and I were walking with our friend who lives at The Road Home. (The Road Home is a shelter for SLCs homeless populace, situated directly across the street from The Gateway.) One ignorant fool in yellow (security) b-lined for us and humiliated our friend. Dress code violation, the pompous ass cited for the reason our friend was to immediately get off of the premises. We asked for information on this so-called "dress code". "Look it up,"he snidely retorted as he turned his puffed-up self away from us. So,we did. There is no such thing. Quite an unpleasant experience,it was, especially considering the fact that the three of us were there to spend money...we were taking our buddy out to lunch, actually. Needless to say,our group went elsewhere for lunch that day. So,Boo-Hiss on that tough-talking d-bag. Zero stars for him. Otherwise, the Gateway itself gets 3,for it does still have a handful of super cool shops, including a killer candy store and an awseome gallery for local artists to tout their creations. The Megaplex theater is here and, yes, you can get a drink right nextdoor at a pretty hip sports bar.

When we said that we were going shopping at The Gateway, local people actually told us not to bother as a lot of the major stores have closed and moved to the new City Creek mall. As we were looking for a specific store, we were committed and went there on a sunny Saturday afternoon. The first thing that strike us was how quiet the place is, the mall is open air and spread over a couple of blocks with on street and above street levels. There were hardly any shoppers around. Quite a few stores are closed. Some shops are doing better than others but the lack of foot traffic is unmistakable. We then decided to visit the food court for a bite to eat. The food court was quite large. A number of food outlets (including a McDonalds) surrounded tables and chairs in a U shape. The crazy thing is that there is only 1 outlet still operating, a Panda Express. Every thing is closed and shuttered. Only about a quarter of the food court is lit and still in use (by a few diners). I have never seen anything like this before. It was really surreal and confirm that the mall is on its last leg. The weirdest thing is that the mall is well maintained, patrolled constantly by security staff and seems to function, at management level, as per normal but no one is there to use it. Very sad.

GATEWAY MALL/FOOD COURTYARD Over the last twelve months from today’s date of March 16th, 2016, the food courtyard at the Gateway mall has some issues starting with: 1. Tables and floors are unkempt often times the tables are “sticky”. 2. During the summer months –it is too humid inside as if no A/C – air flowing through the food courtyard 3. Women’s bathroom stall doors need to be fixed- there is no way to shut them, and I feel exposed when using the toilet on two different occasions I have had a man yelling into this bathroom for his girlfriend/partner- not having stall doors that close could escalate a maintenance issue into a more serious issue if not resolved 4. Sometimes it has seemed or felt there is too many security (overzealous) over how many customers are at the mall, this can feel like you are being overly “watched” 5. A tall, open garbage bin is left standing next to the trash containers when the trash containers are too full, I have witnessed this too many times in the last 12 months, it leaves a bad impression on me as a customer and makes me feel housekeeping/maintenance are incompetent.
