Buying my dress at Avenia Bridal was the best decision I made for the entire wedding! I searched all through Utah and Salt Lake Counties in bridal shops and boutiques for the perfect dress, but even though a few came close to being "okay," there was never a dress that fit me perfectly and made me say, "Yes, I feel like a bride." I came to Avenia Bridal when I saw Nancy Barrus didnt just carry designer gowns - she also made custom gowns. I looked at their gown selection and was impressed right away - the dresses were obviously top-quality. The stitching and construction was better than anything Id seen on gowns four times as expensive. I tried on a discounted couture gown that was AMAZING, and so close to being perfect that I really debated buying it even though it was a bit long on me - but the color was just not quite right for my skin tone. When I talked with Nancy, she suggested remaking that exact gown, customized to my proportions and needs, but in a duchesse silk satin with a slightly pink hue. It was the perfect gown! I asked for elbow-length sleeves that I could raise above my head and dance all night in. Nancy is a genius - she came up with the most gorgeous sleeves and the dress, although full and gorgeously draped, was light and bustled up into a beautiful swags. I danced all night and was so comfortable and happy! Of course the day was amazing in so many ways, but the compliments about my dress never stopped. Nancy never stopped working until every detail was perfect - the lace laying perfectly flush, the curve in the bust just right, the fit in the shoulders and seams exact. Things that most tailors and seamstresses would never know, she knew immediately. She was incredibly patient with my changing dress size - I lost 2 sizes between my first fitting and the wedding, and she kept up with the changes in my body perfectly. I have never had a better fitting gown! When I took the dress to be cleaned, the cleaners at Trailsides (who I would recommend over anyone - they worked miracles with the black stains on the bottom of my gown!) asked me who made my gown. I was thrilled to tell them it was a custom gown from Nancy Barrus at Avenia Bridal. The manager told me sternly to take care of that dress, because it was the most beautiful dress they had ever cleaned, and said it had been a privilege to handle my gown. When a professional wedding dress cleaner tells you your dress is amazing, you know youve made a good choice! You will be thrilled with the selection of gowns at Avenia Bridal, the way your dress will fit like it was designed just for you, and the way you are treated like a dear friend throughout the entire process. And if you are lucky enough to convince Nancy to create a custom gown for you, you will have everything you could have ever wanted in a dress! It is worth every penny and more.

We chose to shop at Avenia Bridal in Utah rather than a Bridal shop in our area because we thought they would have a better selection of modest dresses appropriate for a temple wedding, and because my daughter is going to school there where she would be more available for fitting appointments. We found a beautiful dress that was perfect other than it was strapless. The sales girl put a lace jacket over it and sold us on the dress because they could sew the two pieces together and make it one piece ready and appropriate for the temple. Three and a half months later the altered dress was shipped to me after paying more than we were originally quoted for alterations. The dress arrived missing a button and THE JACKET WAS NOT SEWN TO THE DRESS!!!!! It had been lined as a separate piece and the lining made it bulky across the bust line and obvious that it was a separate piece. I (mother of the bride) was devastated! I contacted Nancy to find out why she hadn’t done the alterations the way we had been promised. Her response was, “Oh, I didn’t know that she wanted them sewn together.” Avenia immediately sent me the missing button, but would not refund even a portion of the money we paid for alterations. I waited over a month for the bride to return so I could fix it myself. (Thank goodness I have the skills to do this!) I was also able to confirm stories with the bride and her future mother-in-law regarding the comment about not knowing that the pieces should be sewn together. They said they had asked why the jacket wasn’t sewn to the dress and were told that it would be much better this way. No, It wasn’t better this way, they just didn’t want to do it. The instruction that comes from the temple regarding the dress specifically says: “A strapless dress does not meet the spirit of the law, even with a bolero or jacket.” I would expect a bridal shop in Orem, Utah would know this. With less than a week before the wedding, I hand sewed the jacket to the bodice and re-worked the lining. It took a few days out of all the other last minute tasks I had to do, but it is a beautiful dress, perfect for my daughter on her beautiful day. Lesson learned: Be specific, make them do the alterations the way they promise for the quote they give you, or, find a dress elsewhere.

BRIDES, DONT GO HERE! Poor service and very small selection of gowns. I went to Avenia Bridal to find my wedding dress and I had a terrible experience. I dont understand the people who marked "Excellent" or "Very Good" for this business because my experience with them was far from even "Good". I arrived with my Mom, Mother-in-Law to be and Sister for our appointment. We had a very unfriendly girl helping us that day. After I explained to her what I was wanting in my dress she left the room and returned with five or six dresses. NONE of them looked anything like what I explained to her. I nicely told her that they werent really what I was looking for. I asked if I could come with her to point out some dresses that were more my style and she then told me that I couldnt go with her in the room because I would fall in love with a dress I couldnt afford. She actually said that. So rude and tacky. I tried on a couple of dresses just to give them a shot and she didnt say one word to me the whole time. Her only comments were about how we couldnt afford the dresses and how their dresses are made only of the best material and lace. Which by the way, dont look or feel like anything special. Any paying customer and especially Brides should never be treated that way. I came down from Salt Lake with high hopes, but I was completely let down. What a waste of my day. I ended up going to the Perfect Dress in SLC and was treated so well! I had such a knowledgeable and helpful girl. I found my dress and it is perfect! They made me feel special. They have a huge selection and have all of their dresses out so brides can pick dresses they actually like. I wouldnt waste your time at Avenia, girls. I want other brides to have a really good experience finding their special dress!
