came in the store to trade some models today...all complete nothing missing, was expecting a fair offer for 5 models that eachs worth was 15 to 20$ each..all i wanted was to trade for one or two depending on what he offered me...his name hal the owner he was going to come out winning either way with 50 to 120$ worth of models he had to pay 0$ from his pocket..since i look young maybe he thought he could low ball me thinking i was stupid and didnt know the value of my own models..the guy gave me an 8$ offer for all 5 kits in 1/72 and on top he was charging me for a kit i wanted to trade..saying oh but i have to sit on them because yatta yatta im a liar and i want to F you over in other words..and i think you dont know better..he over charges for something you could get on ebay for 10-15$ less..trying to make him understand that i wasnt no punk and i know the value of a kit..even when i told him look i know your going to sell these for 15-20$ each at least give me 5 for each so its a fair trade..but no then he comes up with excuses saying that he has to pay bills and this and that so on..so basically said i know what you trying to do i came here in good faith im a christian im not looking for money just a fair trade but i see that you just want to screw people over good bye have a nice day..my suggestion is dont come here this guy is either a racist & a price abuser only people i seen go into his store are caucasian folks..needs a better management and attitude..you dont low ball someone or try to rob them of what they have just because you think of that person...

The Seay Family has been operating M-A-L Hobby Shop since 1947. There are bigger hobby shops, and there are probably cheaper hobby shops, but none have the intimacy and nostalgia of M-A-L (which stands for "Model Airplane Laboratories"). The shop is cramped, small, and stuffed to the brim with kits and books but thats part of its nostalgic charm. Ed Seay, Sr. used to be there every day until about 2 years ago and now Ed Jr. will close up the shop for about an hour or two in the afternoons to go home and check on his dad who is now too frail to come to work (Ed Sr. is near 100, I think). Ed Jrs son helps out now and theyll often have a vendor table at local model shows in the DFW area. They carry some not-oft seen military book titles you wont see in mainstream bookstores and thats been M-A-Ls main appeal to me.

Great small shop. Wonderful, kind, owner who is a great conversationalist. Deep knowledge on local aviation history too. Deep selection of books and references and very fair prices. If you miss what the hobby was, the human touch, them I recommend a trip - call ahead to check his hours on that day, ask about his fathers planes hanging from the ceiling. I was honored to be invited to the back to see a boat his dad made by hand, great craftsmanship!

Looks like is closed from outside, but when you get in, it is a beautiful place, full of history. I got a lot of feedback and lots of history when trying to buy a model. Definitely coming back!!!
