I have been going to this Goodwill Store on South Lamar for at least 8 years. It use to be the best place in town when it came to thrift store shopping and finding bargains. They had a manager that was curteous, kept the store and shelves somewhat orderly and items were priced fairly. The past two years the place has to &%@& in a handbasket...its rapid decline is so extreme, I am surprised they even keep the place open...they have employees that do absolutley nothing but follow customers around making sure they dont slip some piece of junk in thier pocket. Im surprised they dont follow us into the dressing room. The current manager they have now is an a real doozy. She doesnt know her head from her #@%...shes rude, has not a clue about managing a thrift store. Bottom line is shes a complete MORON! She spends most of her time in back making sure things get way over priced and stashing back the donations she plans on taking home. I would say she abuses her five finger discount regularly. The manager doesnt know flip about designer labels vs. target/walmart labels. Half the clothes that are haning on their designated designer racks are from TARGET!! Which actually is a plus for people like me looking for a real bargain because the good stuff is mixed in and hanging on racks that are priced by the type of clothing (long sleeve, short sleeves, tank tops, etc...). Yesterday I found an adorable Tory Burch dress with the tags attached for $7.99. Yet they had a dress from Target hanging on their stupid designer rack and it was marked $25.99. What a joke. Im sure the $25.99 was way more then the price it was at Targe. And speaking things being way OVERPRICED, all the used housewares are marked so high that they dont sell so they keep stacking more and more on the shelves till they collapse...which happens their everytime I have been lately. Not to worry though, because the crap was probably broken anyway. If by some miracle you do find something priced fairly...think again friend. When you get to the register to pay for it, they will insist you or someone removed the original price sticker and put a lower price sticker on it and of course refuse to honor the lower price. Starting with the moment you get there....POOR PARKING, OVERPRICING, (THIS IS PEOPLES TRASH FOLKS), DIRTY, TORN, BROKEN MERCHANDISED EVERYWHERE, EXTREMELY DISORGANIZED, RUDE EMPLOYEES, IMCOMPETANT MANAGMENT. I walked out of there last night for the last time....There are better thrift stores in town then this one...this one is now in my opionion the WORST ONE!!! In any event, if your spending the day thrift shopping, make the GOODWILL ON SOUTH LAMAR your last stop on your list and if your lucky youll run out of time to go. Your better off stoping at Trudys, El Matts and ending the day with Margarita vs. one more thrift store. Goodwill on South Lamar is a big time DISAPPOINTMENT!!

Love goodwills stores. Good prices even though some may not the prices they have to realize its a business an has to make money even though they are goodwill, some stores are messy due to the fact that most customers Ive seen leave a mess for the employees to clean up, at times Ive seen goodwill employees working so hard but get unrecognized because customers complain about a lot, love the plate sets, an cup sets, even though most people dont understand about buying the whole set. Goodwill has good stuff, some more expensive then most, but at the end of the day its all great deals some may not understand about the business but a goodwill is not always about buying the cheaper stuff for a good price its prices that will help us as customers out, most customers are inconsiderate of the employees an staff there, an most times customer fail to realize only a handful of employees work at times, so customers clean up after your selfs if you enter a goodwill. I love goodwill. Just some of the customers make goodwill look messy. Its not your house have respect for those whom work at the business. It may look like its not a hard job but it is when you clean up after people whom you dont know or if they constantly complain about a price, at the end of the day, they still have to be able to pay the employees an make some kind of profit. Stop complaining, about the prices, an stop complaining about if there is clothes on the floor, or if you feel it looks messy, just know majority of the time its customers leaving a mess in the store. Dont blame the store for being messy Ive seen them clean up messes only to have another mess made by a customer..

My guess is rent is high on Lamar. I went in expecting some cheap pans or something for the new apartment. I looked at the non-stick pans and was astonished that they were all old, beaten and scratched and the store was charging $8.00. I mean, I know they are "doing good things" for people but it is still a business and their model seems a little goofed up. Other things like a PIECE of a Halloween wig was $9! I checked, assuming it was a mistake... it was a portion of a wig. I did see things like a nice reflective work jacket for $15 and it was basically new and would run $50 from a supplier. I guess I was totally taken aback by the overall pricing. I cant say I will be heading back any time soon. My guess is outlying Goodwills in smaller town or poorer neighborhoods would be the way to go.

If you like attitude with your donation, this is the place! Dropped by the south Lamar Goodwill today to donate some artwork and picture frames; should have known something was amiss when I noticed customers ahead of me carrying their stuff in themselves. Brought my stuff in and the little twirp on duty says, "Oh, I love it when people bring us their garbage"! and heaves it into a bin, breaking some of it. Next time Ill go to my usual donation place, Austin Supported Living Center.

This Goodwill has one of the best shoe selections for a thrift store in Austin. The clothes selection is decent. Ive found good furniture and electronics here. Compared to other thrift stores in Austin, Goodwill is a little pricier (5 - 10% higher) than other shops but the money goes to a good place. Goodwill is a non-profit, unlike the privately-owned thrift stores. Shopping and donating here gives back to the community.

I understand worrying about people stealing especially in the area this location is in but the employees were watching me and my husband more for stealing imagine because we have tattoos then there to help us when I actually needed a dressing room or needed to be checked out it was insanity and pretty offensive at least if youre going to be keeping that close of an eye on me be there to help me when I need your assistance
