If you go anywhere around fish, game, and guns in the store dont expect to get much help. When you ask questions to the people behind the gun counter they seem bothered and put out. They dont actually have to learn product to sell you anything. You have a firearms expert who builds guns but, his attitude is horrible. Every time I see him there I avoid talking to him, because hes old and doesnt really care about the retail business or his job. I expressed my views to the manager Philip who seemed to not care. He also begin to explain to me why his staff was some of the best around in that department, and gets compliments all the time. My complaint would be a first yet, one search on google says different. I dont see how barely anybody in that department knows the product theyre selling. They have a complete lack of care for what they do. The women who was showing me a pistol was to busy practicing her draw moves with a pistol in her hand instead of showing me one. They do not make suggestions or qualify their customer at all, they just sit there and hand people guns when they ask to see one. If you dont like the way it feels then they put the gun away and go back to what they were doing rather than show you something different. You have a management problem at this store, the manager does not care about your customers experience. I could see what I was telling him was of zero concern to him when he started to make excuses for their actions. Then when he turns the tables on me and says, "your complaint would be a first". I have been going to this store for years and have watched this go on, and I can no longer stand it. I am tired os searching for help when I go to this store, especially in the hunting department. You are not hiring the right people! I will not be back, and I will now drive to Bass Pro when I need ammo.

Great selection of sports and workout apparel. From t-shirts, to shorts to wristbands youll find an ample brand selection with Under Armour, Nike offering leading the way. Offer a good range of mid-level shoes, will rarely if ever find flagship shoes. Good place for back to school shopping. They carry standard school attire and also carry a nice selection of UA and Nike lunchboxes and backpacks. Academy has a nice selection of firearms and camping gear. Store associates offer assistance but dont press sales and let customers shop. Recently bought a pair of wristbands and left store before realizing they rang up full price returned the next day to get price adjustment. Cashier asked me to take a pic of the sign and return to the counter. Using the pic to verify there sale price was practical and convenient. Shopping hours afford for an early morning stop or late night run.

We called ahead to make sure they had a particular item (shotgun shells) and the woman (Emily working in sporting goods) proceeded to tell us she had the item we needed in excess and also told us we were "being really anal about this" when we requested she make sure she had the specific brand, size, shot, dram, etc. We then drove twenty minutes out of our way to get them and not surprisingly they did not have the item she told us explicitly they had in stock. Then told us "oh its okay" when we reminded her she called us anal. Then last but not least the cashier was rude about the return policy on ammo which of course is not allowed and since we bought 22 boxes of ammo it should have been obvious we understood what we were buying. Terrible customer service and attitudes. Will not be going back anytime soon.

Its interesting that this store seems to allow their employees to just loaf around. I find that every time I shop that I encounter staff who are clumped together enjoying casual conversation with each other and seem annoyed by the customers presence, as though we are interfering their social gathering. I also rarely ever have an associate acknowledge me at the register. They grab my stuff, scan my items and then proceed to just stand there, staring at you without even telling you the total. This has occurred 3 consecutive times now. I dont even get a response when I, the customer, tell your associate THANK YOU. Talk about awkward. Some simple instructions on common courtesy would be appreciated.

It was great. I have bought the wrong shoes so often that Im afraid to buy shoes. But, if course I have to buy shoes. As I was looking for a pair of shoes and failing at finding a pair I would be comfortable with, the employee stockings the shoes started talking to me and gave me a valuable education on the way New Balance list their sizes. Because of him, I found a comfortable pair of shoes and the price was good. I also bought a duffel bag I needed that I hadnt seen anywhere else. They had a good selection at a good price. Thanks to Academy Sports and the employee that helped me. He was a young guy and has no idea of how much misery he has spared me.

As with other big box retailers, you have to take the bad with the good. On the positive side, their prices on guns are usually $20 lower than most places. The bad comes when you ask about a particular gun. They cant tell me anything that I cant read from on line reviews. I often know more about that gun makers history than the 20 something behind the counter. Thats why I choose to buy guns and archery from the speciality stores even if I have to pay more. Academy is okay if you need a decent kayak or batting helmet, but they arent setting up my bow for me.

I recently purchased a sidearm from here and the process was absolutely flawless and pleasant. Outside the time it took to get back the background check the process only took a few minutes. The selection of all types of athletic gear and clothing is huge, and they also have a nice camping and hunt/fish equipment selection. This is one of my favorite places to get this sort of gear.

I left a bad review on here 3 months ago. It seems they removed it. Even more shady. Spent thousands of dollars here in the last year yet I still get treated like a New customer everytime I go here. Also the old guy behind the gun counter is a bad liar. ive caught him in a lie during several gun purchases. if it wasnt for Tom the manager this store wouldnt have a chance

Ive been there three times including phone calls for assistance. Its has if they have no employees working just zombies walking around. If your lucky to find someone to help dont expect much from them including the manager they have no knowledge of their products or their store. I will have to be desperate to go back to that location.

My wife wanted some Titans gear for her birthday. When I went to Academy, they had one t-shirt style and all in the same color. Do they not look around their own store? Women in there shopping for gifts for the men and boys in their lives? I would have to say, they are missing out on some business . .

A fantastic store for sporting goods. Its never difficult to find something I need there. From fishing equipment, hunting supplies, weapons, exercise equipment, sporting clothes, tennis shoes, or just a pair of sunglasses, youll walk out of the store with something.
