This is easily the best bike shop in Columbia. I live within walking distance of their biggest competitor (where you can walk around for 20 minutes and not be greeted or asked if they can help you) but I go out of my way to go to Cycle Center. Ive purchased two bikes from them over the past 20 years and the service and knowledge are second to none. You can avoid the pretentious bike shop vibe of the other shops that are staffed by kids trying to hard sell you. These are mature professionals who are pillars of the cycling community and play a central role in growing and maintaining our local trail systems. You leave with only what you need, at a fair price and knowledge, instead of feeling like you just walked off a used car lot. In this age of trying to save a few bucks by ordering online, Im always surprised by their competitive pricing and wide offerings so support deserving local shops like this rare gem, so theyre around for another 25 years!

Cycle Center is my favorite bike shop in Columbia. I tell this to everyone I know, but Ive never bothered posting it on the web. After another great shopping experience today, I realized I should spread the word. If you are looking for a shop with lots of great gear (mtn bike / road / tri / kids), quality mechanics, friendly people and most important of all---a huge knowledge base, Cycle Center is the place to go in Columbia. After closing their Two-Notch location (due to a fire next door), they focused all of their attention on the Harden St. store. It appears that the fire was a blessing in disguise, because the "new" Cycle Center is vastly improved. It has more selection to choose from, yet it is easier to find what you need with the improved store lay-out. There are friendlier faces and even better deals. If you have not visited Cycle Center recently---go and you will be pleasantly surprised.

What do you like about it? Share a tip.I have had service performed on my "go anywhere bike" Scott at least twice within the last year at the Harden St Cycle Center. Each time the staff was friendly and completely up front with addressing my repairs, estimating the cost and time involved. It was pretty much a bring it in and get it back the next day. I got my moneys worth and am happy to share the satisfaction! The location is very convenient to my employment downtown and just not having to deal with parking issues is a plus. Hey they are even open on Sunday afternoons. Everyone there rides and it shows in the attention I received. ForestAcresN

Picked up a great 29er HT from a patient and knowledgeable staff in May of 2012. The owner, in particular, is generous with his time and certainly knows his stuff! Reading other complaints of pretension et all... well, it happens - in fact it can happen at any store, any restaurant. I am not a pro cyclist & did not come it wanting to be praised... they educated me, did not give me the hard sell and I left excited for a new sport. In fact, I am returning only two weeks later to buy a bike for my girl. Give em a go - you wont be disappointed.

This shop is amazing!! The staff here went way out of their way to save my trip. I was traveling through from Florida to Asheville NC. On my way our trailer rubbed a hole in the sidewall of the brand new tire on my specialized camber 29. Needless to say I did not pack a spare tire (lesson learned). The store did not have the tire I needed in stock so they pulled a tire off a brand new bike on the shelf. Great job guys!!! I cant thank you enough. Keep up the great service!

Cycle Center outfitted me with a basket for my old, rickety and prized red bicycle. Rebecca helped me find the safest and most practical basket for the back of my bike. She even found a used one in the back of the store for me that was cheaper. Nice bonus:) After that, Craig installed the basket for me, and by early afternoon I was on my way to the grocery store with a basket in which to tote home my stuff. Everyone was super friendly. All in all, very nice experience!

If you want selection of bikes and a large inventory of accessories head to the Cycle Center in Five Points. Yes the might be higher priced but youre in Five Points so they pay higher rent. They will and most bike shops will work on the "sticker" price of a bike, so dont pay sticker. Their mechanics are some of the best and their turn around time is great. John is the man so if you need something special ask for him and if you have repair questions ask for Arron.

Horrible customer service. went in to try on a pair of shoes befor i purchase because anyone who makes a purchase without seeing all the options is not the smart. one of the workers plainly said i dont want to show you anything because i dont think you are going to buy from here. without knowing that my family comes in every year and spends over 1000 a year in there store. if they really treat customers this way i recomend this store to no one. happy hunting.

I highly recommend anyone visiting this store. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. They were more interested in understanding my goals and needs than they were in pushing product. I found it refreshing. Being new to the cycling world can be a bit intimidating, however here they made me feel like family. They got me in a bike well under my price range because it was the right bike for me even when I was willing to pay more. Great people!

My husband and I came into your shop on Wednesday with $2000 to spend on a bike for me. Two young men just sat behind the counter the entire time talking with each other. We never got a "hello" - "can I help you" - "would you like to see a bike" - ANYTHING. After several minutes we left and spent our money at the EXTREMELY helpful Outspokin Bicycle shop not far from you. I recommend others do the same. Dont know how you stay in business.

I bought a brand new Specialized Hard Rock in early 2010. The guys and gals at this shop let me test-ride every bike I wanted, and they helped with choosing the right accessories. Theyve honored the 1-year-free of tune-ups, and theyve addressed all the problems I had with the bike (prematurely tweaked wheel, squeeky brakes, hard shifting, etc) I havent been to any other LBSs in the area, but overall I am happy with Cycle Center.

I special-ordered a bag for my bike and was told that it would be in the next week and they would call me when it came in. Weeks went by and I never received a call. I had even forgotten about it. Overall, the service is not impressive and the staff come off as bike snobs. When I was here, I felt kind of bad for not having a nice bike. I took my bike somewhere else and I was much happier with the prices and service.

I had a great experience buying a new bike at Cycle Center. The staff was very welcoming, very helpful, and John, the owner, spent great deal of time discussing options and helping me find the right bike. Given the high level of customer service, I think the prices are reasonable. There were a couple of good bike shops closer to where I live, but this place is tops and the extra distance is well worth it.
