My husband and I lived in Japan for a few years and so we do some homestyle Japanese cooking fairly often. We LOVE Tokyo Japanese Food Store. I will even say this store is one of my favorite things about Pittsburgh, period. The produce is always fresh. They sell items you cant find at any of the other Asian food stores in town. And we love how we can find special items and seasonal produce from specific regions of Japan. Plus, the owners are absolutely wonderful. Its not a large store, but they have all one needs. Basically, if you want Japanese groceries, this is THE place. I also love how they always have a Japanese TV show playing and they sell DVDs of TV shows, too. I cannot sing enough praise. I love to splurge and buy the fresh uni, or mentaiko from the freezer section...other staples here are quail eggs, curry rise and fukujinzuke, fresh ume in season, fresh shiso, etc, etc, etc. Last time we were there, I delighted in buying my toddler her first Anpanman kuro-an bread treat. Every time we go, I feel like we are back in Japan for a few minutes. I must go again soon!

I absolute love this store, they have everything from umeboshi to natto (my favorites!) Growing up with a Japanese mom in NYC, we had easy access to a lot of Japanese ingredients and foods. But when I moved to Pittsburgh, I thought I wouldnt be able to enjoy the same dishes I grew up on. That is, until I discovered this little gem! While it is a small store, they have a decent selection of traditional Japanese rice, sauces, meats, produce and of course snacks! The quality is great and the whole place is authentically Japanese. I am so grateful this is in Pittsburgh.

Ive been going here for over 10 years and this is easily the best Japanese store in Pittsburgh. For, specifically, Japanese products no other place has the variety or quality. The prepared foods are also delicious. There was a time where I could stop be for a bento everyday, and they were always fantastic. The quality does come with a price. Some items will give you sticker shock, and you can certainly find better deals in The Strip, so shop wisely.

We shop here frequently for all the Japanese staples that we cant find elsewhere. Weve also found that they have some of the most affordable bundles of green onions (and much bigger than Giant Eagle)! Yes there are some things that are a little cheaper elsewhere, but we like to support small businesses, and want to keep our Japanese store! Also, the owners are very kind and make yummy snack foods.

Just left the store. The man at the front cashiers desk was not at all friendly nor did you want to help me find miso paste. This was my first time in the store and he was very on helpful to the point where he did not show any interest in helping me locate seaweed and miso. I will never go back again

I often go there for the bento boxes, especially when they are 20% off, 1 hour before the store closes. Otherwise, a neat and tidy little store with all the Japanese necessities. Good selection of raw seafood for sashimi (uni, yum!).

you would never guess that such a tiny store could hold so many different products. the owners are super-friendly, and the spicy tuna recipe is the most unique and delicious sushi you will ever eat.

The store has tons of Japanese food items along with utensils and kitchen tools. Be aware however there are certain items you can get in the strip district much cheaper than here.

Owners are great. Best Japanese selection for groceries in the city. Prices are consistent with quality of product. Will also find harder to get items if they can.

Excellent selection of Japanese foods. Fresh miso, Japanese candy and snacks, and tons of cooking supplies. Everything is a decent price as well.

owner was rude, not much selections. Only thing they have that other asian grocery stores do not have is their Japanese movies/show rentals.
