Having spent a fun summer on a cheap Target bike, I decided, after coming across a positive review for this shop, to check out Bicycle Revolutions for an upgrade. The previous reviewer mentioned the exact bike that I was looking for (Jamis Commuter 2.0) and felt pleased with the service. I, however, had the opposite experience. No one acknowledged me when I walked in except the 2 dogs they keep in the shop. When someone finally did, he did not pause from PACKING UP A FULL SIZED BIKE FOR SHIPPING while I asked about options. I told him I would wait until he finished so that I could continue. I knew exactly what I was looking for and had researched several options within my price range. I had hoped to walk out with a bike that day and only wanted a few minutes to be fitted properly for one. When I saw a bike that fit my budget (no more than $500), he would not let me test ride it because I was in a (ankle- length stretchy) skirt. Before anyone finds this strange, I often ride in a skirt-- in fact, I had ridden to the shop in it! (I ride to work and dont have the luxury of changing clothes most days, so flowing skirts serve me well for both purposes.) In fact, another woman who was waiting overheard him and said, "I ride in a skirt all of the time!" Further, though I was very interested in this particular bike (08 Fuji Crosstown), he told me to go to "a larger bike shop with lower- end bikes." Now I know that $500 is not a huge upper limit, but for a novice commuter, that will get me a decent BIKE SHOP bike in any city. I have never been treated so rudely in Philly, and will never return to Revolutions. Go to Breakaway or Trophy-- great prices, great selection, and phenomenal service. I opted for Breakaway because of their good service and free maintenance for 10 years!

I went to Bicycle Revolutions for a custom wheelset and Fuzzy delivered. A year and a half ago he built up a pair of Velocity Deep-Vs with red Profile hubs and straight DT/Phil Wood spokes with brass nips for me. Theyre still running true and thats amazing considering Phillys streets and my size. (300lbs) Theyre stiff and pretty light given how bombproof they are. I dont get any brake rub when Im sprinting off the saddle and thats better than I can say for my road bike wheels that were 2x as much. Bicycle Revolutions caters more to the fixie/SS crowd and if thats what youre into, theyre the best shop in Philly. Theyve got parts that will make you drool and their custom bikes are some of the nicest in the city. Theyre all two wheeled art with lots of attention to detail. Ive never gotten bad service like the other reviews, but there is a certain Hipster vibe to the shop that some people may not like. Remember Barry from the movie High Fidelity? For maintenance, Ive walked in off the street right at closing time and the service was excellent and I have been turned away for some maintenance before. It just depends on what it is and it always seems like a space issue. If you need to have parts ordered, etc. its easier if you keep your bike until they come in so your bike isnt just sitting there. Thats not a reason for a Poor rating.

Great people, knowledgeable mechanics and cool place. Bicycle Revolutions is a bit more "boutiquey" than a lot of the other stores in the city. If you want to ogle $5k carbon time trial bikes or Sram Red gruppos in a prominent glass case, this isnt the place for you. If Cinelli track frames and/or Brooks saddles get you excited, they have a whole bunch. BR does acknowledge roadies and the like with a few higher end frames in stock, but their focus is definitely on the SS/Fixie/commuter side of things. Whenever theyve worked on any of my bikes, their prices are consistently the lowest, and their work has been top notch.

I recently bought a bike from Bicycle Revolutions and couldnt be happier with the experience and the bike. I was coming from out of town so Brian had 3 bikes ready for me to try when I got there. He is really knowledgeable and wasnt pushing any one brand or trying to get me to buy the most expensive bike in the place (unlike a few other LBSs ive been in). His staff was attentive and generally seemed passionate about...bikes. Seems simple right? Go here if you are in the market, even if if youre out of town. Call ahead, tell him what youre looking for and how much youd like to spend. Highly recommend.

I was sent over to this wonderful establishment after a nearby competitor, Via, recommended I swing since they wouldnt have time to complete a few repairs. Im so glad that they did. This place has is excellent. The quality, the service, the atmosphere all make you want to hang out and revisit. I received excellent recommendation and didnt feel like I was being pushed into unnecessary purchases. They worked quickly and efficiently and had my new bike up and running on new tires in no time. I highly recommend their work and if you are looking for a new bike or parts this is the place to go!

Im giving a poor review because the owner/manager wouldnt honor their return policy (thats directly printed on the receipt). I purchased a bike and two days later found a better bike for cheaper from a competing shop, and when I returned to bike revolutions for a refund they decided not to allow me to return the bike i purchased two days earlier for absolutely no reason. I even tried to reason with them and take in store credit for the bikes total value, but no budge there. Overall this is a decent bike shop with high prices and untrustworthy ownership.

They are very knowledgeable about bikes and are super helpful! They didnt have the bike I wanted in stock, but they were helpful in finding a bike of the similar geometry, to see if I would be comfortable with the bike. They then placed the order and had the bike ready for me to pick up. I dont know about you, but if I ordered that bike myself, it would still be in the box a month later waiting to be built. You should go check them out if you are in the market for a new bike, accessories, bike clothes, and tune ups!

After reading some great reviews, I decided to take my bicycle here. The guy behind the counter said he was working alone and couldnt take my bike at the moment and to bring it back the next week. I didnt mind leaving it behind for a week or so, it needed major work. I brought the bike back the next week and he said that he was swamped with a couple bikes that came in earlier that week and told me that it would be better for me to not leave the bike behind with him and suggested that I go to another shop. WTF??

Ive been here many times and always found the staff and ownership to be super helpful and conversational. Never any cooler than you attitude. I recently brought my bike on after I was doored, and I needed a new fork. The wrong one was ordered by mistake and the one I needed was on back order, so they stripped a fork from a complete bike in their inventory to put on mine. Seriously? Could they care about their customers any more than they do? Probably not. Im never going to another bike shop again.
