As a vegan, I would have to give any vegan shop 5 stars just for making the effort. Having said that, Food Fight is just a convenience store that so happens to be vegan. In terms of customer service, attitude, making customers feel welcome without the feeling that youre irritating the staff..well, I would never go there if it didnt stock all things vegan. The things you can not find anywhere else in Portland keep me coming back pretty much since the day they opened. I suppose thats why these alternative types love the whole vegan thing -- they can stay in their "cool zone" of not caring (or pretending not to care) about other people. Because that niche market will come hither regardless. Or not. Maybe thats part of the problem...? They dont even care to answer emails of inquiries about whether items are in stock or not. Wow, how cool is that?! Or maybe theyre too depressed with poor sales to even bother? If so, I do feel sympathy and sorry for them. I recently bought some refrigerated items there that were months past expiration date. Probably still safe to eat, but it wasnt discounted either.... I sometimes wonder how much love these "edgy vegans" have towards the humans they are there to serve. Not just at Food Fight, but at other vegan places in town. Service shouldnt be a bad word, you know? It shouldnt be humiliating to bend over backwards for customers and spread the love said shop claims to promote. Or maybe it doesnt even make such claim?! Come to think of it, I dont recall any love references in there. At least Herbivore next door has a "Im Vegan and I Love You" T-shirt with a cute little elephant on it. Food Fight could very well be owned and managed by a vegan (likely thinner) version of South Parks Eric Cartman! All of the potty mouth stickers and t-shirts I never have understood and never will. I dont know how a plant based diet got all mixed up with "alternative" personality types, tattoos, and all the rest of that...yawn... too cool for school schtick. Im embarrassed for all that lot but dont really care as long as they stay in business in order to make my personal, ultra-important life more comfortable ;) I told my equally confused vegan wife not long ago, "Honey, dont worry about all the attitude in these vegan places we frequent. They are in their own little narcissistic world that we wont even attempt to psycho analyze anymore. Yes, they are vegans but dont expect any love. If they arent extremely rude to us, we will choose to interpret that as the best love they can offer us. Just the way we look at slugs sliming across the porch and say to ourselves, poor, slimy, blind little creatures also of the Earth as we are. Were different but we can co-exist. Lets not take their strange, aloof behavior too deeply." THANKS FOR BEING ALL VEGAN, FOOD FIGHT!

Food fight has a decent selection of vegan food for reasonable prices. I have been ordering from them (online, never been to the store) for a couple years now, and have always been satisfied. I can only think of two things that, to me, give them 4 stars instead of 5. First, sometimes they pack your order too tight, so crumbly stuff (chips, cookies, etc) gets crushed. I am sure that if I addressed this with them, they would be more careful, so it is not really that big of a deal. Second, and the far bigger problem in my mind, is that their website reeks of annoying, preachy, hypocritical (violence is okay as long as it is for OUR cause!) hippy. Hey, I am already a vegan, you do not need to convert me, and that stuff has made me look more than once for a replacement grocer. Also, their "aw shucks folks, were just one of you!" demeanor is insulting and annoying. You do not need to slather on the roadside-booth-commune-tree-smoker ambience to get people to overlook your capitalist enterprise. But, I guess there are always a lot of people who will go for that. And for the record, I am neither anti-hippy nor anti-capitalist (or pro, for that matter). I just have a brain and know when I am being manipulated. So, 5 stars for great product and prices, -1 for making my blood pressure rise. And before you (you, reading this with your eyes bugging out and sputtering about the unjust fascism of it all) leave an insulted, nasally comment, remember that this is an honest review of what I think regarding this business. Everyone gets a voice, remember??

Food Fight is our go-to source for all kinds of vegan snacks. Rice Crispy Treats? Check! Caramels? Check! Vegan Sausage? Check! Daiya? Check! Celebration Roast, including the extra fancy kind with puff pasty? Check!! On top of all that they also have a nice selection of personal care items (lip stuff, soap, etc.), Daves Killer Bread products, grab-and-go meals in the cold cases, a small bulk section (which includes bulk Soy Curls), and they rotate in some extra-special holiday candies too. Ive always had pleasant interactions with the various staff Ive interacted with over the years. They also will work with you to make bulk and case orders (case of Soy Curls? Check!). Great resource and nice shop.

This little vegan block on Stark deserves national recognition. Coming from California, it was easy for my wife and I to celebrate what an incredible gift it is to have a vegan bakery (Sweet Pea) next to a vegan clothing store (Herbivore) thats next to a vegan grocery store (Food Fight) thats next to a vegan tattoo shop (Scapegoat). The owners are all brilliant people. Were there at least 3 times a week. Some foods can be pricy, but I never feel like theyre trying to rip anyone off. Theyre doing the best they can for some of the best reasons. We love this place.

The first time I bought something from Food Fight!, I didnt even live in Portland. Now I do, and I just keep going back. The owners a cool enough fella, and the workers are too. This place has a pretty good selection of faux jerky, and a good selection of healthy beverages like kombucha and yerba mate. Theyve also got Tofurkey pizza flavors I havent seen elsewhere. Some things are a little pricey, but that kinda comes with the territory, I think.

Its a little place filled with everything vegan. I bought a bunch to take home with me, as many of the foods were new to me. The jerky was incredible. They offer soft-serve vegan ice cream and that was the best ever (helps that it was 100 degrees that day). It was a little bit out of our way so we didnt get back there before we had to go home but it was definitely worth the vegan visit.

Guess what?! Everything is vegan! The folks who own Food Fight are the nicest and their employees are too. Soft serve? Yep! Fancy cheeses? Yep! Kale? Yep! Bulk soy curls? Yep! Plus, grab-n-go sammies and salads; lots of refreshments; more produce; snacks; sweets; condiments; frozen foods; and pretty much whatever your little vegan heart desires. Love this place!

I currently live above Zupans, which is convenient but far too limiting to a vegan (my pescatarian bf even finds it annoyingly expensive and challenging when trying to find sustainable, healthier alternatives). Definitely going to be giving my money to Food Fight now. Just one more way, as the folks at Food Fight put it, Im trying to suck less.

Food Fight! is so fun and has a little bit of everything! I really enjoy wandering in and getting new vegan treats to try. Frozen vegan calamari? Check. Vegan marshmallows? Check! Shopping here on a regular basis could be hard on my pocketbook, but I love that it exists for the novelty items, and the staff has always been very nice.
