Youve never actually had hot chocolate if you havent tried it here! Your first impulse may be to balk at paying $6 for three tiny shot glasses, but this stuff isnt even from the same planet as Swiss Miss. Its like drinking the best candy bar you ever ate! I cant decide if I like the plain or the cinnamon best, and the spicy is also amazing. The tiny, cozy store is usually crowded on the weekends, so you may be enjoying your indulgence while rubbing elbows with strangers. You can buy wrapped chocolate treats and bars starting at $4 and increasing very rapidly from there, but I never have, finding my own pallate not sufficiently refined to justify the expense. I was more tempted by the mix allowing you to recreate the sipping chocolate experience at home - until I did the math and discovered the price per serving is almost identical to buying it already made at the store. So I save Cacao for a special treat once or twice a year and look forward to it with anticipation!

The chocolates here are really, really good. I would have rated it a "5" star but the atmosphere inside just felt a bit pretentious. For some reason that seems to be the vibe of many fine chocolate houses. Not sure why that is but it is. The actual location of this Cacao is pretty spacious with the actual display of chocolate confections quite small. the selection is small as well but the variety is pretty good. One of my favorite was the ghost pepper, it was fantastically spicy with a good amount of heat. Their raspberry was one of the best I have had with a very pleasant lingering taste that did not over whelm the sensation of chocolate. The staff was as friendly as you would expect in a setting such as the Cacao, reserved, quite, attentive but not overly enthusiastic. The interior also has a nice energy about the place with nice seating and cool lighting. It does invite you to stay and enjoy your chocolate.

Ever since I discovered drinking chocolate 5 years ago I have been on a quest to find the best examples of it in every city I live in or visit. Cacao is, so far, the best in Portland and probably my favorite overall. I had the cinnamon-infused version and OH HEAVENS it was perfect. The blend of chocolate, sweetness, spice, and creamy texture was exactly what I like and needed at the moment I drank it. I realize there are other things to drink and eat at this place. I cant tell you about them because I am only there for the drinking chocolate and dont need anything else. If youre a connoisseur like me, go there right now!

This is a great place for those that remember and miss the Starbucks drink once known as chantico. The sample flight of drinkable chocolate is $6 for 3 cups with equal # ob flavors (normal dark chocolate, spicy and cinnamon flavourful infused chocolate) the normal is the one closest in flavourful to chantico. They also have another store closer to downtown hotel. They also carry chocolate bars from different parts of the world. Many other chocolate related merchandise.

I wanted to love it, because I LOVE chocolate, but apparently Im not as much of a chocolate snob as I wish I was. Still, you can impress the pants, socks, or whatever off people if you stop by and pick up any of the exotic single source chocolate bars for sale. Grab a sipping chocolate and someone you loves hand and stroll through the adjacent park blocks. A pretty awesome date.

Perfect place to get your FIX. This aint your grandmas hot chocolate. These folks take their chocolate very seriously and its a great place to learn about the science/agriculture behind the global chocolate industry. Ask any of the awesome staff about any of their products and theyll give a great story to go with it. A must-do for anyone on a downtown gastronomical tour.

My 5 year old daughter and I stopped by Cacao after a matinee childrens musical; I had a spiked drinking chocolate and she had a simple hot chocolate. Mine was wonderful, a bit of spice but most deep, rich flavors that persisted on my tongue long after each sip. It brought us some joy and complexity into an otherwise dull winters day.

I know this is a chocolate boutique, but I love the caramels. They have traditional caramels, salted caramels, espresso caramels, and chipotle caramels. While I dont drink espresso, the espresso flavor in the caramel is super light. They also have these salted dark chocolates with the caramels. Im hooked on them.

This is my go-to place when Im having a bad day. One shot of their drinking chocolate sends me into a peaceful bliss. You can try any of the bars before you buy. The staff are lovely and will help you if you need advice or are not sure what you want! But seriously- try their drinking chocolate.

Whenever Im looking for a pick-me-up Ill swing by here for a shot of chocolate. Its surprisingly affordable (2 bucks or so, I think) and it will be the richest/most-magical/luxurious chocolate experience youve had in a long time. Yes, its just a shot but its potent so youll drink it slow.

Absolutely delicious! Wide selection of chocolate bars. The selection of drinking chocolate is lacking though. To my knowledge it has not changed in 3 years. It is often crowded in there, which is a good sign, but we ended up just standing around and drinking our chocolate. Enjoy!

ZOMG. If you want chocolate, this is the place. Drinking chocolate is really a different animal from hot chocolate, and you owe it to yourself to give it a try. Seriously. Its a $5 pick-me-up, and would be a great place to go to pick up gifts for chocolate-obsessed friends...

If you like chocolate, you will love this place. Their hot chocolates as well as drinking chocolates are very smooth and very decadent. Get the flight of drinking chocolates! The guy who helped me seemed very happy to be working here, and that made my experience here even better.

A pretty little shop with friendly staff. You can buy just a little and sit and savor it. A nice selection of local chocolates appropriate for gifting, as well. Its easy to miss - street level below the Indigo, between American Apparel and Masu sushi.

This is a great place to bring a date or an out-of-town visitor that loves chocolate. Its always the perfect place to grab a hot chocolate. I usually bring my laptop and my girlfriend brings a book... its a good place to relax on a rainy day.

Got a chocolate macchiato, was expecting a much more "chocolaty" drink, but it was lot more coffee than I thought. Without me asking, dude just volunteered a extra shot of steamed chocolate for me at no extra cost. Now it taste just nice!

Everyone should try drinking chocolate at least once, and this is the place to do it. I havent sampled much of their other products, but they have some incredibly interesting choices. This place may change how you look at chocolate.

For the love of Chocolate…. Caco is the BEST chocolate place in the Northwest, hands down. Their drinking chocolate is to die for, and if you find yourself there, definitely try the spicy chocolate. You will be in heaven.

Amazing chocolate and wonderfully pleasant service! I was having a terrible day and by the time I finished my 12 ounces of heaven, life looked a lot better. I HIGHLY recommend Cacao to anyone with functioning taste buds!
