Im leaning toward the notion that this kind of place just isnt for me. I dont know why I have to pay for an annual membership like with Amazon. At least with Amazon I get free shipping on pretty much most of what Im interested in purchasing, and I dont need to leave home or squeeze through people in order to browse. Only drawback, still in comparison, is in returns. Much more of a hassle to return something when the retailer isnt local, but Im also not the type of person you often find in any return line either. Im a settler, and a stickler for buying from a reputable retailer so returns just dont happen hardly ever anyway. Even with Costco. The only time Ive been in there customer service line was to buy and renew membership, which I learned doesnt even need to be renewed at the Customer Service either. I hate wasting my time at this crowded place, wasting my time being of greater concern :/ Tonight there was a young lady checking receipts at the door. She seemed to be gossiping with a large family while another large family was waiting to have their papers checked before being allowed to exit. Honestly, it was close to closing, the people at the registers were more than ready to end their shift from what Id gathered, and I already waited in line to buy the items I dont really save much on from buying in bulk from this retailer to begin with. Im also well aware that Costco, nor any of its employees, have any legal ground to detain me from moving about freely and being along my merry way. If this person, whose only job is supposed to be checking receipts in order to deter theft, then that doesnt really require me to wait in another line, wasting more of my time. If Costco is using this as a system to save on Loss Prevention, they might want to investigate the legal ramification of what is an unlawful detention. Ive worked in Loss Prevention, and there are safeguards associates have to take in order to make a lawful detention. The sound of an alarm going off at the front, or any, door doesnt warrant a lawful detention last time I checked. My membership expires in a couple of months, and theres no way Im going to consider renewing it. Costco had better get with the times of customer service and caring about the time of their patrons a little more respectfully. Some say time is our most valuable resource, and I pay for a membership. I feel like such an idiot. If Im going to shop locally, as much as this economy will permit and as needed, Ill stick with place that dont ask me to wait in two lines, that offer the convenience of a self-checkout area (or at least an express lane, duh), and whose management and staff observe my rights and follow the law. If America is to find greatness with a Trump presidency, its not going to have anything to do with the awful policies this outdated policies this corporation institutes. For the next couple of months I might stop in a time or two. Im going to refuse to even show anybody my receipt after its issued to me. Its mine, and nobody has a right to see it if I dont give my consent. To Management, if youre afraid I havent paid for my purchases, put the checkout stands at the front door and spare me the second bullshit waste of my time line, or get really upset with your Loss Prevention Department, if it exists. Honestly, I dont know and I dont care if you have one. If anybody tries to detain me Im going to call the authorities for kidnapping. Its going to be an amazing four years, one way or another. Have a nice day.

I finally got the name of the rude employee. Update. Went to the pharmacy. The man greeted me. He then walked back to another person. Spoke something too her and she started staring at me. Pathetic!!!! I had already spoken to the store director. Doesnt seem to have helped. I spoke too the man and the lady. They went into denial. Got nervous. I knew they were lying! I have the right to exist without being marginalized! May 28th 2017 @ 3:40PM. The name of that employee name badge says Carol, black hair. This employee was at the door marking off on receipts. I saw her and felt regret to have to face her. I noticed they were was nice to everyone until I got to them, I handed them my receipt and they handed it back too me. I said thank you (nicely) and they said YEP!!! Really loud, startled me. After I walked out I looked back and she was nice to the person after me. This person is rude to trans women. I wonder if they are transphobic and trans misogynist. I have done nothing wrong but go in be nice pay for my goods and leave. This is the third time I have had to deal with her rude behavior. I am going to contact Costco headquarters and file a formal complaint. Update: August 10th 2017. We have support groups and some of us trans ladies meet. The topic came up about how we get treated in the Eugene community by businesses. I brought up Eugene Costco. It was mentioned that other trans women have had issues there. They mentioned how other Costco stores such as Salem and Albany treat them better than some of the employees at Eugene. I have traveled to Portland Oregon a number of times and notice I get treated with a smile and feel a sense of welcome while at the Eugene and Albany Costco. Different than the Eugene store. Some of the trans women agreed. We were fascinated that a store that is based in a city that is considered a sanctuary city and the very government brags about acceptance would be less inclusive in its behavior and attitude towards trans women. We know of one trans woman that goes to this Costco and she says she has not had a problem. But maybe thats just her. Maybe since she passes pretty well she doesnt get what the rest of us get? Not sure. However its not just me that feels this way and noticed the attitude that comes at us. I have decided to figure out a new shopping habit and work on excluding my membership at Costco. I will be emailing this review to corporate.

This is my first experience with Costco. I was in the military and lived overseas for many years, so I was a new customer. I came in and purchased the 110$ "Executive" membership. I then did my shopping. The store was extremely crowded with long long lines at every register. It was difficult to even navigate around the store with the crowds. I finally got to a register and they closed the line while I was in it. I was directed to another and had to wait again. Once I paid I attempted to exit. There was another long line at the exit, caused by an angry employee who demanded to see receipts as you leave. Now, I walk with crutches and Im very disabled. Ive already been standing for an hour and paid for my goods. So I just say no and walk out. This employee stops me and demands my receipt. I quickly tell her that detaining me is actually a crime. She says, "I am not detaining you." Im disabled and she standing bodily in front of me and will not let me exit. I told her again, move or I will call the police. She moved. I walked to my vehicle and began the slow process of unpacking. A man who identified himself as a manager walked out to my car and threatened to revoke my membership if I didnt comply with their rules. Remember, this is my very FIRST experience shopping there. Wow, seriously, just wow.
