This use to be the store I stopped off at every week and dropped cash on books. I use to go once a year and take back many of the books and I got a decent amount of coinage. They seemed to always have something new in whatever I was into that month. Now when I take a truckload of books back instead of getting a benji, I get a couple of Abes. I only stop in every month or so, since it seems they rarely have anything that interests me after 10+ years of shopping there. It seems like people are taking their book to Amazon, due to the tougher economy maybe? I know a set of books they offered me 7 dollars for; I put on Amazon and sold for $80 in under a week. The movies seem stale; they dont seem to get awesome off the wall magazine collections anymore. Their technology section is like 5 years old and they still are asking like ten bucks for books that are from the dinosaur times. Magic, nope not much, juggling nope. Once in a while a decent art book stops by for a visit. Audio books I use to get 2 new business ones a month. You give second rate coin, you get second rate books. They should start dumping the extra books on Amazon themselves. That would drop the overall price on Amazon. Secondly go back a policy that seems better defined. Make it more of a science, than art when people sell them back. Make it transparent. I tested once when I was told $17 for 3 boxes of books. I then drove it to North Olmsted and got a better offer. I spend thousands of dollars on books each year. I went from being a few times a week customer, spending a few hundred a month to now going a few times a year.

Rudest experience Ive had. Was recommended this place from local bookstore to buy back some old text books from college. The lady working at the "Sell books here counter" was possibly having a bad day but from the get go she was not helpful. To start she didnt say hello told me to put books down and give my name and shell page me when done. No mention of the amount of time it would take. Following putting books down I waited around 15 minutes. Upon getting my quote and agreeing to sell books I was asked for ID and when I inquired why ID was required the woman who worked there gave me a moody answer about the government wanting to track who they were giving money too. Followed by her asking for my phone number which I also inquired about. This was also met with a snoody answer of "So if we find a million dollars we can call you but since we dont have your number we cant call you." Asking about info and whats done with my data is something I care about. This was clearly too much to ask for the women at the counter to answer. Due to such rude customer service next time Im just throwing books away. Dont bother with this store if your selling books go through amazon or drive a little further and go to Macs Backs on Coventry they may turn some books away but youll leave feeling like a customer and not an inconvenience. Management is clearly lacking at this location. If you are insistent on going to half price books choose the mentor ave location.

This particular Half Price Books location has several issues, but I will highlight the main problem that has inspired me to finally write a review. This particular store, for some reason, will not separate the DVDs from the Blu-rays. I buy almost exclusively titles on Blu-ray, so it takes me forever to hunt out the Blu-rays that have been mixed in with the DVDs. This is a completely bizarre practice, especially if you are familiar with Half Price Books. Often, they are EXTREMELY organized. Everything has its own category. There are even sub categories for movies, like "Hollywood Classics," for example. However, I cant decipher why they arent separating these two different types of media. CDs get their own designation. Video games are even sorted by their respective consoles! This is just silly. I finally asked an employee why this was the practice at their particular store, and they spouted some nonsense that this is what their customers prefer. Uh... who, exactly, would prefer it this way? Its not a problem if youre buying DVDs, but its a complete hassle to buy a Blu-ray. I will say that the staff (aside from the one person I asked about their organization) is mostly friendly and helpful, and the entire rest of the store is organized appropriately. Fix this issue and this review will be revised to a five star review.

The good - they always have good books for good prices. The bad...the very bad. My father is closing down his book shop. 4000+ books and I kinda am in charge of getting rid of them. I knew how much they were worth and went to get a quote with zero intention of selling them. So the grand total by my conservative estimate was about $3000 for the 30 or so books with one book alone worth $1300. I was offered $110. That was less than 3 weeks ago. Ive sold two of the books on eBay. One for $450. The other for $30 both on 7 day auctions. I still have the other books and the interest in them isnt super great but Im patient.

I love this store and frequent it weekly. Of the 3 stores in Northeast Ohio (Mentor and North Olmsted being the other two) this is by far my favorite. Their clearance section in particular is larger than the other two stores and their clearance fiction books (including hardbacks) are $1 whereas they are $2 in Mentor and North Olmsted. The personnel is always friendly and helpful and seem to enjoy being around the books as much as I do. If you see me pushing around a cart full of books with my laptop open, please make sure you say hello.

Store is nice and clean, well organized. However after shopping there a couple times i found that they had less and less to offer.basically i had bought up what little i was interested in (at the time white dwarf/warhammer books ,everything model railroad and WWII history). Movies are kind of stale and music is alright if you like jazz. Prices are ok depending on what you are looking for.this store no longer sells magazines, i dont know if they just have too few to put out or if they stopped stocking them.

My experience was horrible. I would never return or recommend this place to anyone! I felt totally ripped off. I brought in a very large, heavy, took two people to carry it in, box of books. From childrens books, current text books, brand new books... I was shocked when I was given $5.75 for all of them. Truly would not ever recommend this place to anyone. Would have felt much better donating them.

Nice selection of books and gift ideas. The employees here are polite and helpful! Many of the prices are great, but some things can be found cheaper on @m@%0n. If you are hoping to gain a nice chunk of change selling here, expect very little-pennies on the dollar (or less!) like most re-sale spots. No complaints, this is a nice alternative to the mainstream book store.

This location offers a large selection of books for sale and will also buy your used books. I sold several boxes of books and only made about $15. They give you pennies compared to what they sell them for. I thought the books for sale were on the expensive side for used books. Quite a bit higher than Amazon. Staff was friendly.
