I have been a hardcore video gamer for my entire life, and just recently this hobby piqued my interest in manga and subsequently, comic books. Up Up & Aways Cheviot location is within walking distance from my home, so one day, I convinced my husband to come with me to check it out for the first time. I was actually really nervous walking in, because I always viewed comic books as quite the niche product and had no (repeat: NO) experience with comic books, so I felt like I could be lost in the store. First of all, the customer service at Up Up & Away is impeccable for a store of any type. I was quickly asked within seconds of entering the store if I needed any help, and I immediately rambled on about how it was my first time in the store. I was asked what my interests were, and after listing off a bunch of genres and subjects, I was led around the store and introduced to multiple comic book series that sounded awesome. The two employees in the store were super friendly and clearly enjoyed working at the store and talking about comics. They answered all of my questions, including ones I thought would be really stupid (whats the difference between an issue and a volume? as one example), and talked with me for an hour helping me around the store. By the time I left, I had three volumes under my arm (including one for the hubby!) and a store rewards card. Approximately one month later, I have also visited their Blue Ash location (a geek palace, to be sure, and a place to visit at least once for pretty much anybody) and spent a whole mortgage payments worth of money at their stores. Help me. In summary, Up Up & Aways great customer service and awesome selection of comics is what helped me fall so mercilessly into the world of comics. I am obsessed with them now and have to pace myself while reading them, because I want to read them all the time. I doubt Id feel this way if the store had been lackluster with employees that didnt care enough to introduce me to things Id like or answer my questions--but Up Up & Away was far from this. I hate shopping, and yet, this store is one I keep making excuses to go to. If you love comics, or even if you dont (yet) and are simply looking to check them out, I highly, highly recommend going to this store. The ONLY negative thing I have to say about Up Up & Away is that when I asked if I could buy the store to cut down on my amount of trips, the employee laughed...but it was a serious question. So Im assuming thats not an option.

I went in with a friend, we are visiting from Columbus, and was casually browsing the store. Looking at a few books as I went along. Its been awhile since Ive been heavily in comics and was trying to get a feel from flipping through a few to see if Id be into any current story lines that Id wan to buy. The store owner or manager asked me if I needed help finding anything. I told him no (Because simply I didnt need help finding anything). He then very rudely told me that he could not have me reading all day and that the store was not a library. I left shortly after. Id planned to actually buy the comic I was looking at and a few others but after that I decided to spend my money else where. Ive spend a lot of time in comicbook and gameshops and have never been treated so rudely. The only reason I am giving this two stars is because it is a nice comicbook shop. Well organized and set up. I guess you just have to know what you want before you go in. Heaven forbid you take some time browsing to actually know if you want to buy something or get into comics. Does not seem like a friendly place that is promoting the comics community to me.

Ive been to every shop in Cincinnati, every place that sells comics regularly, many times over. UpUp is easily the best. I started coming to the Cheviot location about two years ago on the recommendations of two friends (they were a long stop store initially, I live about 45 minutes away on the east side). I came looking for comics I couldnt find anywhere else. Bill was friendly and crazy helpful the moment I stepped foot into the store, and to my surprise they had more of what I was looking for than I could hope to buy in a single run. Over the next year I tapped their back issue collection, had the pleasure of getting to know Kendal, Bill, and the rest of the well chosen staff. -Im a big collector, I own more books than a lot of the stores I visit, and as such, necessity dictates I go to other stores (no one location has every comic book), BUT whenever I need anything current, I come to Up Up & Away. Whenever I need a back issue, I check with Kendal and Bill first (UpUp doesnt sell rags). These guys went from being a long shot stop to being my first stop, and they did it by being consistently outstanding!!

In a time when it is so easy to buy your comics and collectibles at Amazon or Ebay, Up Up and Away! continues to thrive. There are many reasons for this; the store is well stocked with so many eye pleasing items its difficult to see them all while also being an extremely clean store. The real draw to this place is the courtesy and conversations you will receive from Kendall. The level of care you receive at Up Up and Away! is second only to your mother when you were so sick you had to stay home from school. Their customer rewards program is super wonderful, they will special order most items you could want, and they offer layaway. Best part about this place is the great conversations that take place; I have been coming here for more that a couple of years and Kendall knows what i like and will make recommendations that always blow me away. Up Up and Away! = Excelsior!

One of the finest comic book shops Ive been to, and I have been to stores literally all over the world. Kendall Swafford and his staff are immensely knowledgeable and helpful, and the store is bright, clean, and very family friendly, unlike most of the nerd-dungeon shops i have visited. A huge array of new issues, from Marvel and DC to indies, as well as a great backstock... not to mention all the action figures, high-end statues, apparel, novelties, and Legos the store has to offer. For my money, its the only store I need to go to.

Ive never been somewhere, especially a comic shop where Ive felt less wanted and felt more like an idiot. How dare I or anyone else for that matter walk in and buy anything. Ive heard it from others now but theyre very concerned that your credit cards go through and watched me the whole time like I was going to steal something. Save yourself the money and buy online or go anywhere else and I do mean anywhere else.. Got a creepy neighbor with comics in his basement? Risk it.. So much better than dealing with these... People..

This place was very clean and organized. They had a great selection of the weekly books and they all seemed to be in stock. They also had several bins of back issues as well as some older titles behind the counter. The had a selection of statues and action figures also. They had a lot of comic book themed novelties like banks, wallets, and key chains. I was visiting her from out of town, but if I lived here, I would likely get my weekly comics here.
