UPDATE 11/29/12: Well, things are certainly looking up for Gander Mountain in Morrisville, NC! I was contacted by their facebook guru, who forwarded my complaint to their corporate office and their Morrisville store manager. Not sure what happened behind the scenes, but I was informed that a replacement gun was being shipped ASAP and I am now the proud owner of a brand new S&W .380 Bodyguard! I was also informed that the staff would be updated on the correct defective gun return procedures. Store managers Eric and Walker were extremely helpful and both went out of their way to make sure I was completely satisfied with my new gun. My paperwork was completed quickly and Walker even provided some accessories, which I really appreciated. I now am confident that Gander Mountain DOES care about their customers and will go the extra mile to make sure that their customers needs are being met. If you have an issue with their products or their service, be sure to contact them directly to voice your concern. Do not buy a gun from Gander Mountain!!! I purchased a new S&W .380 Bodyguard 2 days ago. Yesterday I tried to shoot it and was unable to pull back the trigger. My hubby barely managed to get off a shot and knew immediately that something was wrong. Today, I returned it to the Gander Mt store in Morrisville, NC and their gunsmith looked at the gun and said something was wrong with the trigger and that they would send it back to S&W to be repaired or replaced. I told them that I bought a new gun and wanted a new gun, not a repaired gun and that I was told I could return a gun within 30 days of purchase if it wasn’t working. They told me that they would not replace the gun or give me my money back; they would only send it off to be repaired and would not charge me for the shipping. Are you kidding me?? Gander Mt in Morrisville, NC sold me a broken gun and what, thought I should pay to send it off to be fixed?? The manager told me, “there is nothing I can do” and “that is just the way it is when you buy a gun”. Gander Mt obviously never heard of customer service. They certainly do not want me as a repeat customer. They said they do not buy back guns and I pointed to the Used Gun section that they have. They said, yes, they could buy back my two day old, broken gun THEY sold me at a “significant discount”. What?????? They sold me a broken gun, but will buy it back from me at a huge loss to me” because that is just the way it is??” A reputable company who cared about their customers would have refunded my money and dealt with the manufacturer about their broken product. Instead, they kept MY money and told me they would send off the gun and maybe I would hear back in a month. Maybe. What I got for buying their gun is just a shrug and “that is too bad” and “it is risky buying guns”. I can understand the Gander Mountain return policy on working guns, but to not take back a broken gun that they sold me is plain bad business. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER buy a gun from Gander Mountain!!! (Unless you won the lottery and can throw your money away!!)

Okay... In late May early June I purchased a pistol from here with a pistol permit, and everything went well. 2 weeks later I return with my friend to put a Ruger AR 556 on layaway, so as Im filling out my paper work my friend points out to me a Ruger 10/22 that was on the "Used" gun rack for 250.00 with an Archangel Stock and Bushmaster Red Dot. So I purchase that as well. After I payed for the gun the manager approaches me to tell me that theyve made a mistake and the gun should not have been priced at 250.00 or been on the " Used " gun rack because it was a new gun. So the manager gives me an option to keep the Archangel Stock or the Red Dot but not both. So I chose the stock. The manager rung me up a new receipt and told me they would give me a call when my background check returned. Okay. A few days later I get a call from Matt at Gander Mountain saying that my background check didnt pass. What ??? He called me on a Saturday, and the day before that I just received a call from my local Sheriffs office that I was approved for THREE more pistol permits, so I was confused as to why he would tell me my background check didnt pass for a rifle that doesnt require a permit to purchase. I havent been in any trouble with the law that would prevent me from purchasing a firearm ( pistol or rifle ). So as I go in to get my refund a manager tries to convince me to keep my Ruger AR 556 on layaway, but I told him if I cant purchase a 10/22 what makes them think I can purchased a 556 rifle ( even though my background check passed for 3 permits to purchase a pistol ). So then I realized they just didnt want to sell me the 10/22 because they knew they messed up on their end. But they should have just gave me another option or we could of worked something out instead of them lying to me. With that taking place I had to cancel my credit card with Gander that I just received because I will NEVER purchase a gun from that Gander Mountain again. The crazy thing about it is when I purchase my pistol a GREEEAT employee by the name of Ben made me feel at home, he was the coolest employee Ive ever met at ANY store and he was the reason why I brought the pistol and wanted to continue to shop at Gander until this happened. Sincerely, From a good customer who had plans on spending a lot of money with you. Thank your management

Decent selection and nice staff but the downsides: 1. Prices are usually 25-75% higher than local gun stores or even the manufacturer. 2. If theyre out of something or dont know what youre looking for they try to sell you something else or we can order it online 3. If its not busy, be prepared for every single employee to walk up and can I help you and start some other banter. I feel like Im stealing something from them. Im a LEO and a gunsmith, I know what Im looking for when I come in. 4. The way firearms, accessories and ammo is presented on the shelves/floor looks like someone took a couple shipping containers and blew it up with a brick of C4. Absolutely no logical order. Example, half of an aisle is flashlights, the other half is rifle accessories, next aisle is rifle amp, aisle after that is handgun ammo/rifle ammo/more rifle accessories. I asked if they had a Beretta 92G. Sales rep looked at me like I had two heads and then tried to sell me a Ruger. I walked away and followed saying we can order it, Beretta doesnt make that many 92 models every year(!) and the Ruger 380 is the ultimate pistol. Sorry, I wanted a Beretta 92G to ship to Wilson Combat for refinement. I ended up just I buying the whole package from Wilson. Gander would probably charge me $900 and make we wait for weeks. Bill Wilson sent me a custom match grade pistol for $1100. Thanks but no thanks. One final example, I had a rifle I was looking to get rid of and brought it in. The guy told me hes never heard of Noveske and offered me $400 saying that was a special deal and was doing me a favor. Oh, Im sorry, Noveske is so obscure like LaRue, Wilson Combat and Nighthawk! Result, I kept my $3000 rifle.
