I have previously really liked this place. The staff seems to be very knowledgeable. Yes, their prices are higher but Id rather pay a bit more for good customer service. You can have a firearm shipped to the store for free, the only downfall, you have to go into the store, wait on service (firearms is always a wait) then wait on them to basically order it online for you. Would save so much hassle if the online setup would just let you choose to have shipped to store for free. The reason Im giving the 3 stars is because even after you order your firearm, and see that it arrived there, you have to wait for them to process it. I called and said "Hi, saw that my firearm was delivered 3 hours ago, can I come pick it up"....."No, you have to wait until we call you"....Great so now I have to wait, because when you received the package instead of taking it and calling me, you just put it to the side. Shouldve just spent the 25 bucks, ordered it online and sent it to a different dealer. Between the hour of waiting to order it in the store and now the wait time for them to "call me"......... Update...Manager Jen was very polite and got back with me immediately and said the gun was processed. Glad I asked for a manager. Back to 5 stars.

Probably the WORST firearms store experience I have ever had. I had ordered a pistol online and had it shipped to the store to avoid the FFL transfer fee. I got a phone call saying it was in, and when I got there I waited about 30 minutes to find out that the wrong firearm was shipped, and another 30 minutes of ummms and uhhhhs, come to find out they shipped mine to Tampa, and the Tampa customers gun to Raleigh. Now here is the crux of the situation. The staff at Ripoff Mountain did little to nothing to make it right. Yes they offered to pay for it to be overnighted to Raleigh, or $50 off a highly overpriced new version, but other than that there was no "im sorry" or "how can we make this right?". Nothing. They made it sound like I inconvenienced them by asking them to fix it in a way so I could have the gun I paid for the same day I was supposed to get it. They said they would call me, but they never did, had to get corporate to refund it. NEVER AGAIN!!!

Overpriced as hell, good service, great atmosphere and when things are on sale it cant be beat. But if youre like me and when you want something you want it, go to Perrys in Wendell or Fuquay Gun and Gold. My AR-15 would have been $400.00 cheaper at Fuquay, the exact same one. It pays to shop around and not be impulsive, but why the need for such high margins? Youre a much larger store with other higher margin items such as ammo (typically 33-42% margin for bulk sales) and clothing (always 50% or greater margin). Why the need for a 40% margin on the firearms? I rate it a 3.5 based on the great staff in the Firearms department, customer service is staffed with completely incompetent oafs that just dont understand English half the time. Still, it is a great place to be and I love being in there. Its all about the atmosphere, some gun shops you worry about being shot by the owner, this place you only worry about the other customers.

I dislie Gander Mountain.. The prices are stupid expensive here.. DO NOT buy a gun here.. Come to handle it and get a balance.. then go on gunbroker and get it for usually 10-50% less! I understand this is a huge building that costs a ton for them to lease and advertising is not cheap.. But damn. Every time I go into this store half the employees are snobby.. like youre a problem. The more polite you are the more they ignore you.. Like they cant bother with responding and this seems to be the attitude of much of the staff. HOWEVER I have gotten some excellent service from some of the staff here so its really a hit or miss on what kind of service Ive received. Will never come back to this or any other Gander Mountain.. I gave them three chances and I wont be giving them another. The only good things I can say is the store is very clean and the manager made it right on strike 1.. Two more is two too many for me though.

Visited the store on 6/25/2016 to purchase a pair of boots. Waited in the shoe department for over 30 minutes waiting on someone to ask me if I needed help. Two associates were there, they both acted like I was a ghost and didnt see me. I even walked over to the clearance section where on associate was standing and he still never acknowledged me. I can there to purchase a specific pair of boots that you guys carry, but no one acknowledged me, I live about 45 minutes away. I ended up trying on a pair that was on display and they both just looked at me. Hate to pull the race card, but felt totally racist to me. They never acknowledged me, I will never visit this store again, horrible customer service. I went as far as to call and speak to the manager when I got home and he acted like he did not care. HORRIBLE!!!

I have to echo what Doug said. I have been in there a couple of times to look at guns. The first time I didnt know you were supposed to take a number because that wasnt clear, but also no one bothered to point me in that direction. Plenty of employees were around and I was looking for quite a while, but was ignored. Next time I went in just to look and check prices. Wasnt there to buy, but they were not busy and a couple of employees were just talking amongst themselves and not a single person asked if they could help. Even up in sunglasses section I browsed for 15 minutes and not a single person up there asking if they could help me either. Its a great store as far as selection and environment, but their customer service is terrible. Just go to the gun show.

Store is closing FOR GOOD in August 2017. "Going Out of business" prices are usually 40% or 50% off the original price. But Gander Mountain has always been twice the price of online retailers. So, even at 40% off you can find better deals. Save your time, dont even bother shopping there. Staff knows the store is closing and does not care about customers. They WILL NOT ACCEPT RETURNS FOR ANY REASON! Everything that is good has been sold off already. Not a single rod and reel combo left except the really awful kiddy ones that the kids dont even like. Theres just some junk left at bad prices. Go if youre into that. Oh and expect to WAIT!!! Because the staff doesnt care if you buy something or not. You were warned!

When the store initially came to town i was fairly impressed with the staff and selection. Now its merely the selection. The store always seems like a ghost town between employees and customers. I wandered around the fishing aisles for about 10 minutes or so and never saw anyone working in the department. With so many options to choose from in the area to shop for this type of gear now, where stores need to set themselves apart is their customer service and they did not deliver today nor have they been at all lately. Id love to see this place improve but if it keeps going this way i dont see the doors staying open for much longer.
