Here in Cary, NC, Aldi and Walmart Neighborhood Market are across the road from each other, on NW Maynard. Each store has its advantages, so I shop at both (and also at the Kroger a couple of miles down the road). Walmart & Kroger have much better selection, and Aldi has no scales at the checkout counters, so they have only pre-weighed produce (not good for a bachelor like me who wants to buy just two bananas). But when it comes to price, for some things the Aldi advantage is truly dramatic. At Walmart today I bought Hersheys Special Dark cocoa powder (which they dont have at Aldi), and then I went across the street and bought eggs and Stevia at Aldi. Look at these prices! EGGS (one dozen): Aldi: One dozen large eggs: $1.59 Walmart: One dozen large eggs: $2.17 (Or one dozen medium eggs $1.74) (Walmart = 36% more expensive) STEVIA (9.7 oz = 11.5 cup, equiv. to 5 lbs sugar, house brand): Aldi: about $3.89 (give or take a dime) Walmart: about $5.95 (give or take a nickel) (Walmart = 53% more expensive) (I also stopped briefly at Kroger, for one item, and their prices were similar to WalMart for both eggs and Stevia.) These were not sale prices, at any of the stores (though egg prices do fluctuate a lot).

This is my first time to ALDI. I heard of it from a friend who is from Germany long time ago but never felt like shopping in here because it didnt look like a grocery store I would like. The only reason for todays visit was I saw avocado is 79c this week and for someone who eats 2 avocados a day, I thought I should give it a try. I didnt bother to use the cart because I thought I was going to get avocados only.....I was wrong when I walked in. Even though I dont eat processed food, there are still a lot of things I can buy here! Cheap mixed nuts, chia seed, grass fed beef, etc. man...especially the avocados....they are LARGE HASS AVOCADOS for 79c each! (Regular price is 99c here....Ive never seen any large avocados are this cheap in other grocery stores!) It only cost me 19 dollars for the items I bought it the picture. Had to leave early because I couldnt hold anything more with my hands... Im going to come back again on Monday with the cart with me that is for sure...

Aldi is great. 37 cents for a dozen eggs. 1.49 for a gallon of milk. Yes, you have the weird "cart deposit" thing, you have to bring your own bags, they carry bags youve never heard of, and presentation on the inside doesnt look like your traditional grocery store. But thats how they save money on operating costs and pass it on to you. Also, great service. The employees at this location are great. When we went this week, the cashier noticed our milk gallon had a little leak and offered to exchange it. Something simple, but the week before at Food Lion, two different cashiers dropped my fruit on the ground, then just picked them up and put them in my bag again without saying anything, so its great to see good service at a budget store

Honestly after hearing such rave reviews from friends I was expecting a lot. Did I do it wrong?!!! I was prepared to by off brand but were talking SERIOUSLY offbrand, like worse than the dollar store. The store smelled sour when I walked in and there is alot left wanted in the shelving arrangements. All in all I didnt feel like I saved money and couldnt find a lot that I needed/wanted. The cashier was okay but didnt ask if I knew what I was doing (Which I didnt) And when I tried to get out of her way by moving the cart to the side she said she still needed it. Fine, but how am I supposed to bag my groceries and get out of your way if you just out them all in a cart I cant move?

High quality food kept very inexpensive by cutting out quite a bit of the inefficiencies of normal US grocery chains and carrying mostly store brand items (simply rebranded major lable products). They have some of the lowest prices on chicken, beef, and pork cuts as well as dairy around. Be sure to bring a quarter for the cart well (you get it back when youre done). Also, be aware that they do not accept credit charges - though you may still pay with a check card if you chose debit. These minor inconveniences are why milk costs about a dollar less per gallon there than at most other grocery stores in the area.

Best deal for your buck! Aldi is not only affordable but they are also environmentally friendly. To access a shopping cart you have to insert a quarter so the cart can be disconnected from the other carts, but at the end of your trip you get your quarter back when you return your cart. They also dont provide plastic bags but you can easily just bring your own. They have good quality products, not necessarily brands, but to me the logo does not make it a better product. A trip to Aldis costs me around $40, were at other major supermarket chains it would have cost me at least $60. Will be returning soon for sure!

ALDI is the place to go if you want a quick grocery visit for a low price. Not a place to go if you care about brand names, as a lot of stuff is from their private labels, but everything is great quality. Look online for their weekly specials (they change every Wednesday), and bring a quarter to "rent" a cart (you get it back when you return the cart). Bring your own bags, as they charge for theirs--if you forget you can snag some empty boxes from them for free. Insanely fast checkouts, and eggs so cheap theres a purchase limit. In fact, lots of stuff here, even not on special, is cheaper than other stores.

Love Aldi. No frills, but great, basic produce and other products at prices that cant be beat. Sure, its a little different from the norm. For example, the buggies are in great condition because they are "rented" while you shop, and the 25 cent "rent" encourages people to return their buggy rather than leave it out in the weather. Bring your own bag, or buy one. Get your staple groceries here. This location is a busy Aldi, but they typically have more than one check out lane open, and the cashiers move like lightning.

This is a fairly typical Aldi. There are staples that they have routinely. There are seasonal items that are often a very good deal. The store is usually clean. Its small, so when its busy it can be a pain to navigate. The lines for checking out can get long, but they check people out so quickly that it is rarely a problem. One small knock is that it can be very difficult to turn left out of the parking lot in the evenings. The parking lot entrance is at kind of an awkward spot relative to a busy intersection.

A Private User

In case you are unfamiliar with Aldi Foods please give it a try. The prices cant be beat and the quaility and variety of the merchandise is excellent. Why pay $1.69 for a dozen eggs when you can get them at Aldi for .89. A gallon of milk is $2.59 NOT $3.69. So what if you need to bring your own bags and a cart requires a .25 deposit. The savings are well worth it and its a touch of Europe. Just be award that credit cards are not accepted but they will take debit cards. Once youve tried it youll be hooked.
