My daughter and I spent some time in the Book Cove this afternoon, browsing books, flipping through special Halloween stories. The kids section of the store is really cute, and inviting to children. There are shelves of books, and a private little section for kids to sit and read at a small table. My daughter and I were having so much fun together when the manager came in and started to fuss over having to construct a new "automotive section". She started taking books off the shelves, peering over her shoulder at us, and giving us bad looks. She was obviously annoyed with my jacket and purse on the floor, and made it very clear, in a rude, passive aggressive way, that she wanted us to leave (for example, my daughter was reading a book, placed it down on the floor, and within seconds, the woman harshly snapped at me: "Are you done with that?"). While my daughter was still browsing books, we sat together on the floor, and let the manager do her thing. Within a few minutes of sitting, the manager turned quite rudely to my 3 year old daughter and scolded her for sitting against the bookshelf. My daughter started crying, as this woman was very, very rude, harsh, and just plain mean. I quickly packed up our things and went to the front desk to complain. I will NOT spend another penny in that store until that woman is gone. Tomorrow, I will make a phone call to the owner, and make a formal complaint. On a positive note, the younger members of the staff were very kind, and sweet. If you plan on visiting this store with kids, Im assuming the policy is to not just sit around and read books. They want you to purchase a book, not lounge and enjoy titles. This is unfortunate, as I am the kind of person who would gladly apologize for any wrongdoing, and follow the rules. This manager clearly couldnt communicate, and she lost business in the process.

This store is Pawlings hidden gem! The staff is friendly, attentive, and sweet and the store itself is beautiful. I went in recently looking for a birthday present for my brother and the manager pointed me towards the perfect thing! She was very patient and helpful. They have a great "Staff Picks" section with reviews, which is perfect if youre not sure what you want. I was very impressed by their extensive and adorable childrens section. The window and table displays are fantastic here as well!

The Pawling Book Cove is one of the main focal points of the center of Pawling. Serving the community for over fifteen years the Book Cove is right off the bat charming and inviting. The staff is top notch, they provide a very wide array of books, and frequently have guest author signings. Its one of the last remaining independent bookstores in the local area and they have always stayed true to their roots over the years. Next time youre looking for a good book, head into Pawling and shop local!

My children and I love the book cove! Tara and Max and the rest of the staff are extremely helpful and a pleasure to be around. They seem to have an uncanny knack for knowing just what my children might like to read. My kids get such a kick out of asking for help and seeing what they come up with. Besides books there are gifts, cards and antiques. What a great store!

I would highly recommend the Pawling Book Cove! The staff is helpful as well as thoughtful. Theres a great selection of books, for children and adults. But thats not all. The staff at the Book Cove helped me picked out several Christmas gifts and wrapped them beautifully. They have a large childrens section, and a fabulous teen section which suit my needs perfectly, I highly recommend The Book Cove!
