The store itself is fine, the visiting vet service is great and the vaccinations are a good price. The grooming service is a mess. Short story : the grooming service is run by kids who overbook and dont seem properly trained. They seem incapable of doing basic cuts. Long Story : We took our dog their 3 times. The first two times, they couldnt deliver basic styles (I asked for a teddy bear cut, I got a shaved uneven puppy cut. ) While this isnt important for some, youre paying prices you would normally pay for a boutique grooming shop. I can do a teddy bear cut at home, and its not my job. The last time we went there, I found a basic easy cut that anyone should be able to do. No one called to tell us to pick up our dog when she was done. I finally called after 6 hours, and was put on hold. After another 10 minutes on hold someone else picked up, didnt seem to know whether someone was checking on my dog or not and finally told me my dog was ready. The bows we requested werent there, her ears werent plucked, and her hair was uneven. It was a mess. When asked, no one seemed to have an answer as to why her cut took 6 hours when it usually takes 3. Instead they were giggling under their breath and said "she was acting funny when we tried to touch her head". Shes a 10 lb poodle who has been groomed from 4 weeks old regularly.

I went to this PETCO yesterday and I was disgusted. And unfortunately I have plenty of complaints. Most of the animals seemed to be in very poor condition.Their birds (parakeets) where all lethargic, bored and had labored breathing. I noticed some of their rats hat cuts and looked sick. Many of the rodents had no exercise wheel! . The ferret den had a tower of feces in it. I noticed the food for the ginpigs & bunnies had been carelessly placed before them and untouched ( it was what looked like cabbage leaves with some sort of white powdered supplement thickly dumped on top ( I originally thought it was a white teal mold - because i wouldnt have been surprised to tell you the truth what with the other conditions of the place). I was surprised when i noticed many of the Hamsters, rats, Rabbits, and Ginipigs had labored breathing. I was in A PetSmart In Cortland and none of their animals looked like these...(poor things). I actually went to this PETCO in hopes of finding a safe hamster wheel for my little Gus( winter white dwarf)...and i was very very disappointed to find no solid exercise wheels where sold there , only wire wheels which i understand can catch tails and fracture legs.. So Ill probably buy her wheel on line. I hope this place can turn itself around...

When to this Petco regularly but has decided we will no longer shop here. On three occasions we found maggots in dog food purchased. On two occasions it was the Purina Pro Plan Dry dog food and the other time it was a box of milk bones. In addition there were maggots on the shelf underneath the dry dog food. We went to return one of the bags of dog food and the associate wasnt very friendly. She didnt apologize at all, she just said the Purina dog food often times has that problem and said we should buy the Merrick brand. We told her that the Merrick brand gives our dog diarrhea. She told us that it was the way we introduced the Merrick food to our dog. But the Merrick brand dog food gave our dog diarrhea for two weeks!! In addition each time we shopped at this Petco, they kept on pushing the Merrick brand on us. The Merrick brand is also very expensive.

I as well took my Maltese and my pugg to this Petco. I specifically said " puppycut and not to touch the ears and tail" after 5 hours of being at Petco (Im not even kidding) I called and they said they would be ready in 10min. I went to pick them up only to wait 20more minutes bc right as I got there they were just finishing blowdrying my pugg. Once they were done, I saw my poor maltesses almost shaved down to the skin. I couldnt believe it! I said a puppy cut not shaved her! I couldve done that at home myself!! I complained and their excuse was "she was all knotted up NOT TRUE! Also, my pugg smelled and looked like he was jut spray with a strong minty spray n thats it. The best part was how much I got charged to get my dog "shaved" it was ridiculous! Now I go to a doggy groomer, they do a great job and they always have some sort of bow or bandana on.

I took my 4 month old Maltese for an appointment for a wash and groom.They smiled and acted like they cared and said they would call when ready in about two hours from 10:00 a.m. so I went to the nearby Mavis to buy and install tires. Needless to say it went for more than 3 hours and no call. I left Mavis and went straight to the Petco. Outside smoking and taking a kissing break were 2 females all on top of each other. I went in and asked if my dog Princess was ready. The blonde female asked a kid named Bill if he called and he just said no because he was busy. So meanwhile my dog is in a cage for more than 3 hours without any food or water. They could not find her collar or leash, she was groomed but thirsty. Wow what great and uncaring service! Needless to say I never went back. It stinks too!

After calling my normal Petco for grooming and them being all booked up I called this one. Was happy to hear them say no prob bring him in now but that should have been a clue... the grooming was horrible, no style what so ever!! Basically just shaved him down with no clean lines or anything. And to make it worst it was TWICE the price of the normal Petco (throggsneck)... he desperately needed a trim but I will never ever bring him to the Mt Vernon location again. Hoping his coat grows back in quick so I can get it re done the right way. VERY DISAPOINTED!!!

Actually, the stores are run very well, and I always receive consistent, friendly customer service at my store, #.1781at 500 East Sandford Blvd, Mt.Vernon, NY 10550. I buy my specialty dog food, and get my dog groomed there regularly, and plan to do so in the future.Also, they have a very engaged relationship with the surrounding communities, like offering deeply discounted immunization shots.

You cant get these people to answer the phone, like Im going to trust them with my dog? On hold for over 15 min, put on hold 6 times, asked for a supervisor, he gets on the phone I tell him whats going on and he tells me to hold on? Customer service obviously isnt a priority so I wont be bringing my dog here, or buying anything from here either

The cashier is usually very nice, but the grooming salon is questionable. I brought my dog here for grooming once long ago and she absolutely hated it. She goes through so much anxiety if we get in the car and come any where near the place so I dont bring her with me when I go to get food in there any more.
