Museum Village is a little gem nestled in the hills of Southern Orange County – Monroe, NY. It is a living history museum where interpreters bring 19th century rural existence to life. There are several buildings that represent a school, blacksmith shop, broom maker, pharmacy and a natural history building which houses the skeletal remains of a Mastodon! This is a great place for both kids and adults, with an amazing amount of artifacts and items to see. On weekends throughout the spring and summer months are special events - a circus, cars shows, Fire Fighters Day where departments around Orange County display new and old engines, and a weekend-long Civil War event complete with reenactors and a battle between the Union and Conferderate armies. There is a beautiful oval lawn with benches surrounded by sugar Maples and a snack bar for a light lunch. I’ve visited often, and each time I do I discover a little part of history I never knew existed. A must see!

Great day trip for the family. Lots to see. Good exhibits with hands on demos. Not that big so its good for kids with short attention spans. The reenactments are very impressive. Good for educational or school trips as well. Lots of historical pieces and knowledgeable guides.
