Absolutely horrible experience. The only reason I went here was because my mother had said they used to do good work. My first experience here I spent 15 minutes waiting at the counter until I decided to flag the older lady who runs the shop down from in her office. After I got her attention I asked for a certain type of ring which she immediately dismissed me and said we dont carry those here. I was able to get a deal online on the type of ring I wanted, but needed to resize the ring. I thought I should give them one more chance since my mother had said they had done good work for her in the past. They measured my finger and the ring and said it would need to be taken down from a size 10 to a size 8 and assured me it would not be a problem. I asked how much and when it was going to be ready. She quoted me $49 for my silver ring (which I corrected her several times that it was 14k white gold) and that it would be done the next day. I called the next day and they said it was not yet done, it wouldnt be ready till Thursday or Friday. I asked if they would call me when it was done and they assured me that they would. I ended up calling towards the end of the day on Friday to see if it was done and they said it was. I walked into the shop to see the lady who runs the shop arguing with a woman about destroying credit card information that was given before it was charged. I left to go to the bank next door and came back. When I got back the lady was still arguing with the other customer. Another gentleman acknowledged me and said he could take care of me and get me my ring. When I pulled it out of the package (which I assume means they had it shipped out to another location) I went to put it on and it was the same size as when I dropped it off! In shock and awe I asked what they were going to do for me in this (for lack of a better word) inconvienence. The lady said that they could have it done by tomorrow, but couldnt do it for free. I said I understood that, but that I would need some kind of compensation on the quoted price. She said we cant do that so I took my ring and walked out the door. I ended up taking it directly to another jewlers and he was able to tell me that my ring (which I had ordered new online) had in fact been resized at one point in time. He explained that it was a much more complicated job than had been expressed to me at Achenbachs because of it being white gold, having a stone, and having black inlays. I entrusted the job to him and went home. He also sized me to a size 7.5 instead of a size 8. I got a call from the lady at achenbachs who apologized and said she wanted to make it right. I asked her what went wrong and she said the revered the sizes and resized the size 10 to a size 10 (which still doesnt make any sense at all). I asked if she was going to do anything about the price and she said no. I explained my dissatisfaction with my experience and she said that I shouldnt take it out on her and she wasnt going to listen to it. Needless to say this has been the worst experience I have ever had with a jeweler and will not only never return, but also tell people not to go there. I wasted my time with these people who are not only unlnowledgeable with jewelry, but lack any sense of customer service what so ever.

I recently dropped off my Tag Heuer Carrera watch for an estimate of what it might cost to clean the mechanism and return it to running accurately (it had been losing a minute or so per day). I stressed that it was for an estimate only and I did not want it worked on pending word. When I inquired I was told that the technician had not been able to see the watch but that it would require "a new mechanism". I asked how she could know this without even having the watch evaluated and was told that this was what happened with these watches. This is not my first Tag Heuer and I know this to not be true. I told the saleslady that I wanted nothing done and that I would pick it up the next day. When I arrived, the technician eventually found the watch and explained that he had re-set it and that I had to wear it daily for the self-winding mechanism to work (duh). He handed it to me and I saw the bill in the plastic bag indicating a bill of over $187.00 due. I refused to pay and made sure to keep the watch in my hand. The tech said he could take $75.00 and I again refused. When he came down to $45.00 I decided that I would rather lose the money than give him back the $3,500 watch. I feel totally ripped off and plan to file a complaint with the Glens Falls Better Business Bureau. When I left the store I noticed that the watch was set over an hour slow and returned to the store. The tech reached out for the watch, offering to re-set it for me but I kept it in my hand again. It was not working at all when I left. It had been working, but somewhat inaccurately, when I first came in. I will certainly never walk through this door again.

I wish I could give negative stars. The owner lied about the carat weight of the diamond ring she sold my husband. She had the mounting altered to hide the smaller center stone, leaving it unsafe to even wear for fear of losing the diamond. We confronted her with proof from a gemologist, and she refused, repeatedly,to deal with us or our lawyer. After 4 months we settled in court for our money back plus fees, but she ruined my husbands thoughtful surprise gift and our anniversary. When word got out what shed done, numerous past customers AND ex employees, came forward to share similar horror stories. She should be shut down forever. She is a belligerent, conniving liar and a thief.

I recently visited Achenbachs Jewelers in need of repair work. I was greeted as soon as I walked in by a very pleasant sales woman, I believe she was the owner. I explained what I needed done, she gave me an estimate of the cost for same and when my jewelry was ready I received a call indicting it was done. My jewelry came out beautiful!! I give this 5 stars because the owner was extremely helpful, unlike the mall jewelers, she knew what needed to be done at a cost that was reasonable! I highly recommend this to anyone who wishes to have their precious jewels repaired by a company that cares, you wont be disappointed!

BEWARE! The owner lost my heart shaped solitaire diamond ring and later presented me with a little heart shaped pendent stating that is what I dropped off for repair. I had to involve the police dept. who eventually recovered my ring, but it was damaged. There is so much more to this story, but the short of it is she is an incompetent liar. She even stated to us & the police I owed $900 when the receipts only total $400! With a little research you will find many others with similar stories.
