Fancy Wedding Center saved my wedding day. My boyfriend (now my husband!) took me on a surprise trip to NYC without explaining why, and then proposed to me at the top of the Rockefeller building. He said that, if I wanted, we could get married two days later at sunset in Manhattan harbor on a beautiful sailboat (he had already bought the tickets weeks ago). Of course I said yes, giving us a grand total of ONE DAY to prepare for our wedding. Fancy Wedding Center made that possible. My boyfriend had already planned to go to Fancy Wedding Center because they were the only place in the NYC area that would rent wedding dresses. We walked into the shop in the late afternoon and told Diane that we were getting married the very next day. Instead of freaking out, she was quite excited for us and assured us that any necessary alterations would be ready by 6pm. Let me emphasize that. Diane committed to altering my dress in a FEW HOURS because she knew the urgency of my situation. I told her that wed pick it up the next day, but I was still amazed that she and her sister were such diligent and responsive seamstresses. Diane gave me a catalog to look through, and after I chose several dresses she gave me one of them to try on. The first dress she handed me was perfect; I didnt even try on a second one. Shes got great taste and knows what will look good on someone. After we paid for everything (be sure to bring cash -- they dont take cards!), I asked Diane if she would be able to help me into the dress the next day. She graciously agreed, which really meant a lot to me because I didnt have anyone else to ask. The next day, we came in around 3pm to get ready to go. Our plan was to take a cab from Brooklyn to Manhattan in time to make our 7pm wedding cruise. Diane and her sister were absolutely amazing, taking care of us like family. We had brought some roses, which they helped arrange into a bouquet for free, saving us about $150 (that was the quote from the flower shop across the street). Including the veil and tiara, it took me about seven seconds to get dressed, but we got a bit stuck on my fiancés boutonnière and forgot to check the clock. By that time, it was 5:30pm on a weekday, and we still hadnt called a cab. Panicked, I tried getting in contact with someone, but all the cab services I found were either tied up in traffic or didnt go to south Brooklyn at all. This is where Fancy Wedding Center jumped in -- AGAIN. Diane called an unlisted cab company whose driver only spoke Chinese and got them to come pick us up. She even called them several times to make sure that the cab was still on its way! When the cab came, she negotiated prices and routes with the driver and then told us how much it would cost (for the record, it was MUCH less than any other company had quoted us). We would not have made it to our wedding without her. But we did make it, walking onto the boat just before it disembarked. The crowd that was already waiting in line to board saw us coming from a mile away and cheered as we got on the boat. Before we left Fancy Wedding Center, I had talked to Diane about returning the dress. Our plane would be leaving from LaGuardia pretty early the next morning, making the 11am opening time at Fancy Wedding a little inconvenient. I asked her if we should come back that night, and she said absolutely not! Diane herself promised to be at the store at 8am. The next morning, Diane and her sister were waiting anxiously at the front door. She was extremely concerned about whether or not her cab had gotten us to our wedding on time! We reassured her that, in fact, we had successfully gotten married -- thanks to her. I returned the dress with a pretty messed-up hem from walking around the city all night, but Diane told me it was not a problem and refunded my entire deposit. Clearly, our wedding story is a bit crazy, but Fancy Wedding Center made it happen. Because of this little shop in Brooklyn, everything turned out exactly the way we wanted it to be.

This little boutique is the proverbial "diamond in the rough", and it would be easy to overlook if you didnt know it was there. I had a tremendously positive experience with Margaret and her sister Diane, but thats not to say that I wasnt hesitant at first. I had read several positive reviews, but my wedding gown was not something I could trust to just anybody; and I had happened on this location by chance after perusing only a few positive reviews. I came to this shop hoping to be convinced that it would be a good fit after the disappointment of having been over quoted for a hem, bustle, and shortened straps on my wedding gown at an alternate location. The first place assured me that the alterations were on the "low end" of typical costs for this service and then wanted to charge me 2.5 times what Margaret at Fancy Wedding Center asked for. Upon walking in, you see dresses that are in garment bags to be rented. While I waited a few minutes to be served, one newly wedded bride returned a lovely rented gown that was destroyed all along the bottom from her inattentiveness, enjoying the day. Margaret didnt seem phased and quoted the repairs. Observing this exchange instilled a respect and confidence in the shops talent as I reflected on the miracles the two asian seamstresses must work in order to repair all of the gowns on their racks so that they can be lent out again and again. The work Margaret inevitably did satisfied the needs of my gown and the price was more than fair. Upon pick up I even asked if she could add an element that would enable me to pick up the train in the event I switched from heels to flats (the hem was measured to the length of platforms) so that I could comfortably get around without destroying the bottom of the gown, as I had seen was so easy to do. Without hesitation, Margaret stitched a finger loop at the back of the train that flawlessly matched the straps. It was perfect! The staff (Margaret, or Hin Fun, and Diane), were personable and capable. In sum, my experience there was exceptional and I would wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone looking for gown or other alterations that are reasonably priced.

My fiance and I got engaged the last week of July with a wedding date of Nov 30, 2013. As I could not justify spending thousands on a gown that I would only wear once, I went online to find a place where I could rent a bridal gown. I found Fancy Wedding Center through Google, and went to the shop the first week of August. I gave them my wedding date, and they took my measurements, and then instructed me to look through a few binders of gowns and to mark which ones I liked. Based on my wedding date, measurements, and preferences, they then pulled five gowns they had in stock for me to try on. I ended up falling in love with the first gown I tried on. The women who run the shop are experts at what they do. They knew which gowns would work for me, fitted me perfectly for the gown, and helped me pick out the accompanying veil. Within an hours time I had selected my gown and put down the deposit. The first week of November I returned for the fitting, and picked up the gown altered, cleaned, and pressed a week before my big day. The gown fit perfectly, and I received tons of compliments on how beautiful the gown was. I am completely thrilled with the quality of products and high level of service I received, and would recommend Fancy Wedding Center to any bride who was looking to rent or purchase a gown. They truly make the process of finding a wedding gown easy and stress free.
