Charming is the best way to describe A Little Shop of Comics. The store is neat and tidy with a warm atmosphere and located in a quaint part of town. The staff is helpful and friendly and the owners in particular are kind and welcoming. The selection is terrific and is highlighted by a nearly unparalleled collection of several thousand trades. Everything is well organized and smartly presented, which allows a huge number of items to fit into a relatively small store that never looks cluttered or cramped. The new comics are displayed against the right wall with recent issues placed behind them. Trades are housed in bookcases in the center of store which are easy to navigate. The back issues are appropriately located in the back where you can look through issues at leisure without being bothered by people milling around. There is an All Ages section by the front of the store and the toys and games are located on the left wall by the cash register. I have never, ever had trouble finding something at A Little Shop of Comics. The organization is too logical and selection too good for that to really happen. On the rare occasion that they dont have something, they with gladly order it for you. You can reserve comics that you want and the stores weekly newsletter will help you keep track of whats coming out. Ive never had any issues with holding or ordering comics at the store. You can also sign up for The Club, a free program where you earn store credit on to use on trades. After you buy ten trades, you get their average price in credit to use on trades. The store is also active with hosting community games and there is a separate playing area in the back for this. Its great to have the separate area so that the potentially loud games dont bother the people looking for comics and the people looking for comics dont distract the people playing games. Ive never been involved with the gaming end of the store, but there are always people there that seem to be having a great time. I couldnt be more positive about A Little Shop of Comics. The store is very inviting and fun to be in. If you as a comic book fan could design a store that you wanted to spend time in, it would be A Little Shop of Comics. The selection, the customer service, the layout - everything is done right. I give A Little Shop of Comics the highest recommendation.

Ive been collecting comic books for almost thirty years. In that time, Ive been to many, many cook shops all over the country. I never expected one the finest stores I would find to be in Scotch Plains, New Jersey. Little Shop of Comics is first striking in that it does not fit the unfortunate stereotype of the dark and dingy, musty hole in the wall. It is brightly lit, well laid out and organized but still packed full of comics, graphic novels and games...with a healthy smattering of various comic related memorabilia. Instead of stinky carpets theres clean hard wood floors. Instead of rickety tables filled with aging cardboard long boxes there is row after row of well organized trades and graphic novels. Thats not to say they dont have back issues. Towards the back are nice wood fixtures full of choice recent and silver age books. The next pleasant surprise is that the store doesnt end with whats on the shelves. The very friendly and knowledgeable owners and staff will gladly hunt down or order anything that may not be in stock. And that turned me into a regular. They have a great subscription service that has yet to fail me. Even if sometimes I forget to order a book until the day it arrives...I know it will be there. They also have a great book club that gives me store credit for every graphic novel I buy. Little Shop of Comics is a well run, well stocked, clean and inviting store. With one of the best kids sections Ive ever seen. Its the type of store that the comic book industry needs more of.

A most disappointing experience. I was here with my son today, and the clerk rudely told me that "he could not have me reading a book in the store". (as my son was selecting his weekly supply of comics, I was perusing the a shelf of books). As a frequent visitor to bookstores, I was taken aback. After all, the only reason I go to brick and mortar bookstores anymore is to "read the books in the store" to make a more informed buying decision. In this day in age, with growing competition from the web, I am surprised that a business like this would push me away and make me all the more likely to make my future purchases from the web, where I am not annoyed by self-important clerks driving away customers. I will not be back, but the whole experience makes me sad, because I know what business is like for independent booksellers, and I know the lengths to which the smart ones go to accommodate their customers and make them feel welcome. Still, I suppose that in a crowded marketplace, only those who put customer service first will survive. I wonder what sort of business will end up at this address a year or so from now?

I started coming to Little Shop in 2004, when I moved to Scotch Plains, and I fell in love with the store and its personnel right away! Steve, Lena, Jack & Company (Steve & Lena are the owners) have been friendly, hospitable, helpful, and considerate every time Ive seen them! They were great at keeping my reserve box, considerate about added or removing items, and held great sales on skip weeks and Black Friday. My oldest son was even here before we came home with him for the first time! The place is also extremely family-friendly. The staff as a whole adopted my son(s), playing enthusiastically with them when wed stop in to pick up my weekly fix. They stock a nice variety of kid-friendly comic books, and theyre willing and eager to help parents buy comics that are appropriate for their kids instead of steering them towards, say, "Gravel" or something similar. My only regret when I had to move away was that I was leaving Little Shop of Comics. In the Scotch Plains area, there is nobody that I want to visit... except for this comic book store!

I wanted to get into Yugioh the trading card game and found this store holds tournaments every Saturday. I thought it would be a great place to see what the game was all about and to learn from the players that come there often. I waited for 2 players to complete their game and kindly asked them a question which they were excited to answer. After about a 15 minute conversation with the players, the owner comes up to me and asks me if I was in the tournament. I said, no, Im just watching. He said, If youre not in the tournament you need to leave. I was completely caught off guard. I mean what better way to get new people involved in the game then to let them watch and learn. There was plenty of space, I wasnt bothering anyone and I was truly interested in the game. The owner was an absolute a**, who completely turned me off from the game and to think I was about to spend a significant amount of money at his store. It was a terrible experience with poor customer service and I will find another more appealing location to spend my money.
