I made an appointment at 9am for a simple oil change. As of now, its been 2 hours with no signs of it being done any time soon. If you know nothing of cars you can easily change your own oil, sliding under the car, cussing once or twice and changing the oil and filter, the average person can manage it within 20 minutes. Now, if you gave equipment. Its 10 minutes or less. Hence there are places that advertise it as 10 minutes or less. Its been 2 hours and 30 minutes for the guy who was in the lobby before me. So to say this is an isolated incident and it never happens is a silly thought. Worse, its Christmas week so I cant freak out. There are few things worse than being a crab apple of a human being to others at Christmas time. Id really rather not shout at someone while Holly Jolly Christmas plays in my head. At the 1:45 mark Id asked for my keys back that Id rather go somewhere else. I was told, oh the cars on the lift, we cant get it down. When Id said, actually its just a button. Just press it. And it comes down. I was told that there is no oil in the car. They are putting it in at this moment. That moment has been 15 minutes long. It took exactly 2:05 from the time I walked through the door until the time got my keys back and left. If you are dropping it off and dont want to worry about street parking. Great. If you are hoping to get service done at a regular pace. Dont. Go anywhere else. Anywhere. Doesnt matter. Get on Craigslist find someone to do it and then have him dump the dirty oil in the Hudson and get the fine. Itll save you the time and annoyance. If the people working read this I want to give you a very basic economic lesson. I understand the pep boys goal. Get someone in for a cheap oil change and upsell. I get that. Its how you make money. But lets look at it this way. My goal, is an oil change for $20-35 and to be on my way. Your goal is to sell me on a transmission flush, brake pads and so on that I possibly "need." For fun, youll even have me sign a waiver that scares a person into buying. You know, the waiver that says they warned you and you left, so if you die its not on them. However lets assume if I do need repairs, Im already there and its only going to add 15-20 minutes. (because the average person whos done it once, can change rotors, break pads and calipers in that time.) Then yes, Ill pay that mark up. Whatever. Now my bill that was $20-$30 is now $120-$175 but whatever, I needed it. Service was fast and I trust it. Now lets assume you pay someone $20 an hour to do the oil changes and the inspection. Even if you land zero up sells, this onky works if he is cranking them out. Again, most places, and I mean most mom and pop outfits that uses a floor jack to lift their cars can rattle cars off in 20 minutes. That means 3 changes per hour. The guy is making $6.35 or so per car and the shop is making $60 an our. Parts and labor their still making $48. That works. Thats how you make money, from customers, employees, everyone wins. However if it takes 2 hours to change my oil, you paid that lube guy $40 to make you $20. Take parts and labor, your paid him $40 to make you $14. This also means you are paying, $40 per car vs the other place that pays him $6.35 per car. Now who makes more money? The guy who can crank out 24 cars in an 8 hour work day or the guy who only does 4 cars? Just do basic math. 24 cars X $20 = x 4 cars x $20 = y Which is more? (x=$480, y=$80) Add to that, if Ive been sitting there for two hours for a 20 minute oil change, chances are my car could be on fire and when you try to upsell me I will only want to leave. I wont care what your selling or how good of a deal it is, because faced with being there another 2-4 hours Id rather drive my on fire about to explode no brakes car to anyone else than have it sit there. If anyone reading this needs a place because you dont know any better. Go to Hoyas Auto. I love them and trust them with everything.

I went to this store on 07/25 to drop my car to check the flat tire. To start with it was a horrible experience. Staff over there is not friendly and no respect. After dropping my car over there I got a call that it cannot be repaired and it is ready to pick up. I went to pick up, it took 40 mins to give keys for the car which is ready to pick up, this is again after asking couple times for the keys, this is second case where I got pissed off about the staff. Finally I got my keys and went to my car, now it gets really weird, I see some difference in my Car door. When I checked with the front desk staff, they said they will check with the mechanic who checked my car. When we went back to car to see, I see clearly there is difference in my Car door and the way it is closing, but the mechanic cannot the feel the difference, about 5 mins of discussion I left the store. That guy kept on saying its OKAY nothing wrong, he is not at all interested in looking at it. When I reached home, I parked my car and suddenly I saw a dent at the bottom of the car door. I called the store once again, and asked informed about the dent. After 10 mins of hold, the lady said that to check with her Manager next day (as he is not available at that time). Next day when I called in the morning asking for the Manager, I got reply saying he is busy and call after sometime. I even stopped by again asking for manager, then they gave me an visiting card to contact which has the Store phone number which I kept calling. From then I feel my car has some problems, I went to check if my tire can be re-used, ended up with dent and issue with the door. I went to this store without seeing the reviews as it is near by and the BRAND name PEP BOYS. I never recommend this to anyone who has issues with the car.

I brought my vehicle here because my recently done alignment and balance was never quite right. The guy at the desk was very meh about anything and everything, you could tell he didnt care about his job. I told him what I needed and he didnt seem too happy that it wasnt a "money" job but rather a warranty job. He lazily took me in, but before I could even finish my sentences he always had an answer against what Id say. In any case, they took the car in and about 2 hours later called me and told me it was "done" but that they couldnt do anything about the alignment because the machine was broken. Mind you, I could see them working on other alignments on the same machine. Whatever the case, I just took my car and left. Later that day I came to realize they left me a nice surprise on the door of my car. A nice little indentation on it that is small, but noticeable and pretty much impossible to repair in any easy manner. When I took it to the Pep Boys I normally go to in Pine Brook (and the one I shouldve gone to from the beginning) they let me know that they NEVER did the balance because it was completely off and if they DID, they did it horribly wrong. Word to the wise, avoid this place at all costs. Not worth a dime. It will go down just like the one in downtown did.
