Okay, to be as informative as I can be I will be touching on many basis. Firstly; yes I agree that the store could be a little better kept. Its not absolutely filthy but its not "petsmart" sterile and clean either. During the summer they do keep their front doors open which makes the shop somewhat vulnerable to flies. This is definitely easily noticed. As far as it smelling terrible in the store I have never noticed it smelling any worse than near the cages in a petsmart or petco. Any odor is made more apparent at the cash register though, but this is mainly due to the fact that the counter is where they keep all their live feeder rats and mice, which are stinky animals to begin with. Pet Quality; I have bought a couple leopard geckos from their store before, and have had no issues with any of them. My pythons are from out of state breeders though. I have looked at their colubrids and pythons and have noticed nothing really out of the ordinary. Yes their hatchlings are in "cups" on a counter, but this is common practice for many reptile stores and breeders. You dont need a 10 gallon tank to keep a 6 inch snake. I think that may also be something a bit off-putting to a person who is not accustomed to snake breeding, is that a lot of there juvenile and adult pythons and colubrids are in a bin rack system. While I am not as familiar with colubrids as with pythons, I can tell you that at least on the python side of things these small enclosures dont bother them or torture them like people might think. Its actually a quite natural habitat for them and for all extents and purposes helps them feel safer. All in all I have to say the stores staff is quite knowledgeable and helpful and have never had any issues with them. Although there is one staff member who can seem a bit stand-offish at first. But he has never been unhelpful. The rest of the staff are extremely friendly and will help with just about any question you have. So yes; the store is a bit over packed, some of the animals are considered "rescues" and are being nursed back to health, unfortunately they dont have the space required to do this in a separate are, but I have never seen a sickly animal with healthy ones. I havent paid much attention to their rodent section though so I cant comment 100% on the conditions of those animals, but as far as the reptiles are concerned I have not seen any cause for real concern.

My first visit to Exotic Pets was 14 years ago. Their staff had a negative attitude towards me and many other pet owners I have met who have shopped there. Now years later my son is a regular customer simply because the store is close to home. Every time he goes in to make a purchase, the staff behaves in a very unprofessional manner. The staff think that because they know a little about exotics that they are superior to the stores customers and portray an elitist attitude towards their shoppers. These people do not have a degree in Animal Sciences as I myself do, yet they will treat me and my adult sons like we are beneath them. I am a highly educated woman with 30+ years of animal experience and am also a very active animal rights spokesperson. It is my job to report animal cruelty and in the case of my sons last visit the animal that was brought in for questions regarding a shedding issue, was treated inhumanely when thrown into a box by staff because they did not agree with the substrate being used. They then went about with rude remarks and walked away from my sons refusing to serve them. All this because they didnt feel sand was appropriate for snakes. As a vet tech I can assure you snakes do and can live on sand. These people are not only cruel and unprofessional but are also lacking serious customer service mannerism which is necessary in keeping a dedicated customer based business. I will not be going back and I will not recommend this store to others until these rude, uneducated people have been replaced by a team of people dedicated to better customer service.

I came here with my boyfriend, were both pretty passionate about reptiles. Although Im more knowledgable of birds and snakes- he knows a lot about different types of lizards and even has experience with them. I was excited since this was going to be my first time and let me tell you this place was HORRIFIC. This place smelled disgusting, looked so unclean and I saw SO MANY dead animals. The tanks were unclean and some lizards worth $600 were clawing at the opening of their cage. Their zebra finches looked abnormally skinny and their love birds were scarred, looked almost traumatized. Ive handled many birds and I know that theyre not suppose to look like were about to kill them. I saw three young dead red eared sliders and their ferrets looked terribly unhealthy. I mentioned how this place smelled like utter garbage? Thats because 7/10 of these animals arent being cared for. Saw skin from the shedded snakes and didnt bother to pick it up. The person who handled the sunbeam snake I was thinking about purchasing was holding it like a toy. This entire franchise needs to close. None of you know how to handle them and pretend like you have knowledge about it. None of the tropical reptiles look like they had their tank misted and all of them were scared for their life. I feel so bad for these animals

I go to the exotic pet store all the time, and I absolutely love it. Yeah it smells, but they sell animals. If you are really and truly an animal person you know that there are some animals that just stink, it doesnt mean they arent being taken care of. Secondly- people that say they would rather shop at Petco on this comment reel arent the brightest. If there is ANY place that isnt good to their animals, its probably some of the big chain pet stores Ive been to. Not only are the employees at E.P. intelligent, and friendly, but they are patient. Someone below said they had a kangaroo in a glass tank? Ill have you know, it was not a kangaroo, first of all, so get your facts straight and do some research. Secondly, they also let it freely roam the store, but much the same way you treat a dog- there are times, you simply cant let the animals under your care have free reign, escpecially when they are not potty trained in a place of business. I have never been displeased with a product bought at their store, even their feeder animals are lively and healthy, seeing as, I bought two feeder rats for my Ball Python, but fell in love with them and decided to keep them. Theyre still very happy and healthy today, and that was almost a year ago. E.P. is the place to go when looking for an exotic pet.

Bought a ferret here 1 year ago. He is a Marshalls ferret. I would have preferred one from a private breeder but I am from out of town and was on a tight time frame. We had to wait a day to pick him up because he was too young to sell on our first visit. That was a concern. The cage was very crowded and the staff were very hesitant to let me hold any of them on my second day visit unless I agreed I was going to.purchase one. That was crazy. I am not going to commit to a purchade until I know if the pet is in good health, and a good fit with the temperament and personality I want. I have previously owned ferrets and know what I am looking for. Staff were rude and condesending, too busy to answer questions but silently hovered over me as I chose my new pet. Hopefully that has changed in a year. Prices are higher than PetCo. My ferret, Cinnamon is very healthy and a great pet. He loves his friend Oscar who I previously purchased in Carson City. Just be persistent about what you want and be sure to take your time. Dont let tbem rush you or push you off.
