I just finished my second season packing the Terraplane. Anybody that knows Mystery Ranch knows theres no substitute for durability when your deep in the wilderness. The pack bag is huge and easy to over pack, so I have to be a bit careful. Nice to be able to put everything inside though for off trail bushwhacking. So far Ive packed 14 days food and still had room to spare at about 55lbs. I thought the sizing recommends on MR website to be a little weird. Im 62" 200lbs, size 34" waist and I came out with a size medium harness, and a size small waist belt. Im pretty sure I could go to the size large harness as Ive got the medium stretched out almost as far as it goes. The waist belt is fine the way it is. If I had it to do again Id try stopping by the shop in Bozeman for a test fit session. The Terraplane has always been comfortable, even on rainy days, and always stable feeling while crossing exposed ledges and such. A recent test was this past July during an 11 day crossing of Idahos Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness. Out of 110 miles we had 56 miles of blown down trees and Im certain I wouldve shredded any of the lighter packs. Although, it took me a while to get over the sticker shock, its not that much more expensive than anything that could be considered competition. A saying comes to mind that couldnt be more true in this case...buy once, cry once. Sorry for the long review, hopefully its useful. Happy trails, Mick

These guys make the best packs. I got one of their metcalf packs to replace a 12 year old pack that was not doing it for me. Problem was that I was between sizes and needed one size yoke and a larger size belt. Called them up just before getting the pack and they sent me the larger belt out to go on the new pack. The quality is great. I have been packing around a 50lb sand bag to get ready for fall and I can not even feel the weight. My old pack I would have been struggling. Why did I not upgrade to this pack a few years ago.
