I went in to Shane Company on Olive Blvd in June of 2016 to get my wedding band and engagement ring resized. The service was professional but somewhat slow. However, I think the lady that assisted us was somewhat new so I gave her the benefit of the doubt. They took my rings and resized them with no issue and within the timeframe they had promised for the price they quoted. They polished my rings and cleaned them beautifully for no additional cost. I have white gold rings that had to be resized two sizes and I was charged $100.00 for this. I have no complaints regarding the resizing. I went back into Shane Company on 10/3/16 to have my wedding band and engagement ring soldered as my wedding is next Friday. I went in around 6:30pm and was assisted by Matthew (I could be wrong, but I am almost positive his name was Matthew). Matthew was very courteous and professional and instantly took my rings to have them reviewed by the jeweler. Matthew returned several minutes later to ask how old my rings are. I replied that I wasnt sure and questioned him on why he was asking me this when all I wanted was to get them soldered together. He said they always review jewelry before performing any type of work/service and the jeweler stated that the 8 prongs that were holding the diamonds in needed to be replaced. He went on to say that it is $20 per prong and quoted me a price of $200.00. I asked him what is the worst case scenario, that my diamond(s) fall out? He said yes. I replied that the rings were insured and that I was not interested in having any other type of work performed on my rings at this time. He quickly took the rings back to the jeweler and came back a few moments later to state that they would not perform the soldering of the two rings unless I paid to have the prongs replaced. I took my rings and thanked him for his time. My fiancé and I left and went to Distinctive Diamonds a few miles away to see if they had an issue with my rings. The gentleman that helped us was very helpful and insisted that the job would be no problem. Distinctive Diamonds charged $5.00 more in price to have them soldered but it was very much worth it (Not to mention as soon as we walked in the door we were greeted with free snacks and drinks - wine, beer, water, keurig coffee, etc.,) and the level of service was excellent, not just from the gentlemen that helped us but all of the employees we spoke with. I would highly recommend Distinctive Diamonds over Shane Company because I feel that Shane Company had no right to refuse my business. I feel that Shane Company was trying to pressure my fiancé and I to pay money for something that we did not want to and that they should have handled the situation differently by mentioning that I may want to start thinking about having the prongs replaced (I dont even know that they really even need to be replaced, but that is beside the point.) instead of refusing my business because I wont pay them to replaced/repair them. In all honesty, why is it their concern if my diamonds fall out or not? I have no intentions to return to this store .

OK. I have to give kudos where kudos are due. My experience at Shane Co was phenomenal. Im looking for engagement rings all throughout the St. Louis area, certifications online, and so on. I dont know jack about the business, but I have to say, most jewelers in the area will explain it in very plain language as an education process. I highly recommend a prospective ring shopper to educate themselves first and foremost, however, and for the love of all thats holy: shop around first. Shane Co was my seventh destination, and within half an hour of browsing, I knew itd be my last one. I found the perfect ring and a diamond to boot, both quite moderately priced. Problem: I didnt exactly know my prospective fiancees ring size. I could guess (less than 5.0), but beyond that its throwing darts (I tried all sorts of methods to little success without giving it away). And this is where Shane Co fails at selling their services. They dont brag nearly enough on the service they offered me: they were willing to give me the ring I wanted at a size 5 BUT with a temporary sizer attached that would reduce the ring to a size 4. After I proposed? They merely instructed me to come back in with the girl, have her ring finger get properly sized, and they would specially order the same setting fit to her finger. When it arrived, wed merely swap the diamond out of one into the other, and voila! She has her brand new ring, and Shane Co has their ring that theyd so graciously let me use/temporarily size so as not to ruin the surprise. For rings with a lot of inset diamonds, its best not to have them cut/re-sized too much, so this service was fantastic for the ring I chose. When her final ring came in, the switch-out process only took a special asking of mine - and 15 minutes later, it was done (as opposed to their advertised 48 hours). The whole process, complete with their free cookies, coffees, and mints (oh man, theyre good) was almost entirely without hiccup. Lastly, another point that Shane Co doesnt sell itself enough on: I was informed that I can upgrade my stone at any time with a 1:1 trade-in value of my original stone. So, hypothetically, if you buy a $10,000 stone, and a new $10,001 stone strikes your fancy, guess what? Your upgrade is merely $1. That said, I dont know if Ill be needing that anytime soon. Regardless of their ring selection, I have to give my primary kudos to Ian -- and I wish I knew his last name. Ian was phenomenal in orchestrating the timing of the rings, the special orders, the wedding bands, and his communication with my fiancee and I. We are both very appreciative of his help. Alex

Wow, talk about an engagement factory this place was completely smoke and mirrors. We were greeted with a warm smile and friendly demure but underneath all of it was personal gain. Don’t get me wrong the sale staff was knowledgeable and friendly but it all fell apart when they separated me and my girlfriend for some sleazy and shameful sales technique to get me alone and to pressure me into putting down a deposit on a ring. I kid you not I was asked 3 or 4 times if I wanted to put down a deposit on a ring and it was like it was going through one ear and out the other, she wouldn’t take no for an answer! She kept going on and on about “This is the ring your girlfriend picked out” and I told her I wanted to check my options, that wasn’t okay to her since she just kept going. Eventually she gave up. Their radio ads claim their sales team isn’t commission based but after that experience there must be some kind of incentive to sell rings, there has to be with such high pressure sales tactics. Add insult to injure the sales associate at the end would not, I repeat would not give me the ring details (Basically the code to identify the exact ring that we picked out) to me. Why? Why I ask? Afraid I’m going to go somewhere else and have them make it? I will never step foot in their store. And don’t bother with the store manager crap. I saw what your company is about. Nice friendly faces on the outside to get you in the door and nothing but cheap, sleazy and downright shameful sales tactics to pressure guys into buying something they may or may not want to purchase and then it’s on to the next sucker. If I could rate this place 0 out of 5 stars I would. DO NOT GO TO THIS ENGAGEMENT FACTORY!
