While I think Scotsman is probably the best place to go to sell coins in Saint Louis, and they have given me fair prices when buying and selling coins. I cant help but mentioning one thing which is the reason I gave Scotsman four stars instead of five. Their website says "We purchase all collectible coins in all price ranges and in all conditions". I realize that this doesnt mean they will necessarily make offers on all coins at all times. That said I would expect them to respectfully decline to make offers when they dont want to make an offer on a coin. I brought in a a trime (three cent silver) which the person who evaluated thought showed signs of cleaning. I later ended up submitting the coin to pcgs and they graded it ms64 (meaning it wasnt actually cleaned) people make mistakes and that is fine. The issue is that the employee loudly quipped "we dont buy whizzed coins" which is funny because at the time scotsman had a whole case of ngc and pcgs certified coins which are certified as authentic but show cleaned or environmental damage. He also made some derisive remark about a couple pf70 modern commemorative. I know the market for coins and I am aware of their values but I shouldnt be treated like Im trying to sell a gold plated clad quarter bought off late night tv .

I have nothing but love for this place and its people. My first experience with them was about 10 years ago and since then I have referred many friends and family to them. I am in Illinois, so it is quite a drive, but I wont go anywhere else. The coin side folks are true experts, the jewelry side folks are fantastic and you should check out their beautiful pieces. The gold buying team are the only ones I trust to be fair and honest with me. I have dealt with John, Jay, Clay, Julie and Janet at different times over the years for different reasons. There is a warmth doing business with them that is genuine and sincere and I like the personal touch of their customer service. Its the kind of place you feel good doing business with. Highly, HIGHLY recommend!

Bigger than I expected. They carry a large selection of supplies for collectors: books, sleeves, tubes, etc. They are quite busy, so make sure you have plenty of time. I gave 4 stars because they give the jewelry section most of the glass display cases. Im sure they have a ton of coins that arent on display, but you have to wait behind others who are looking at coins, as well as selling used jewlery. When the word coin is first in the name, you expect them to focus on that part of the business, but this doesnt seem to be the case.

I was very pleased with the prices that I received for my scrap gold at Scotsman Coin. I talked to Rick, and fully explained all of the numbers they use to determine the value of the scrap metal. After selling them the scrap, I then had them set a loose diamond into a stud earring. The earring looks great, and I was surprised at how little they charged me to set the stone. I will definitely be back in the future, if theres any other gold or silver I have to sell.

I use Scotsmans for my coin and bullion needs and I live 3.5 hrs away, many times spending the whole day to make a trip up there. The guys up front do a great job and the back office personnel and Julie in particular do a terrific job of making sure the paperwork is in order. Jay has built a quality, trusted business that would serve you well to make a trip be it 20 miles or 250 miles! Scotsmans is the best around!

Went in with an outside diamond from a friend for a quick estimate on what to pay for it. Owner told me diamond had several cracks, was worth maybe $1,500, and he would probably place it in an ear ring. Got it officially appraised elsewhere at over $8,000!!! Will never go back.

Ive been to multiple coin shops in multiple states. The people here are probably the friendliest and most welcoming of all of them. They have plenty of variety and their prices are very fair. This is now the only coin store I will do business with in the STL area.

Friendly staff. Not so friendly prices. I was quoted $2.50 each on 2 Barber quarters (melt value $2.75). If I wanted to buy silver quarters (Washingtons) it was $14.63 for 4 (melt value $11.40). Thats a combined profit of 32%.
