In the time that it took for me to load this page on the cafes wifi, an elderly gentleman shuffled from his house nearby to the gas station kitty corner to the cafe and back. As this drama played out, I was treated to the lyrical stylings of Shinedown on their hit song, "Unity," over the cafe speakers. The lyrics asked whether Ive "ever been caught in a sea of despair" and implored me to put my "hands in the air" if I heard them out there. I raised my arms for a stretch just as I heard those lyrics, which clinches it: Cafe Bene is a sea of despair if you are looking for wifi above grandpa speeds and music enjoyed by anyone not currently living in their parents suburban ranch house. I briefly considered writing my review on parchment, but then this page finally loaded. Thank goodness. Atmosphere: low in oxygen, rich in angst Coffee: competent Food: cinnamon roll was suitably artery-jamming Prices: insufficiently low to compensate for emotional damages incurred listening to Gwen Stefani over cafe speakers

Arrived at around 6 pm, asked for a breakfast sandwich and the employee said they were done serving them for the day. I look down at the sign that says "breakfast sandwiches served all day" and he hides the sign under the counter. On another occasion I was able to order a breakfast sandwich. However, when it came out, it was on a croissant rather than the Ciabata I ordered. The employee even announced it as a Ciabata when it came out. When I asked her if she was sure, she denied it. I told her that for future reference this is a croissant. Anyways, I wont be going back for a third time here, even though it is 2 blocks from my house. In this establishment it feels as though the incapable employees are always right, not their patrons.

Have not been there in years and after going there this morning I remember why. One staff member in particular was so negative and disinterested in her job we almost left before ordering. Come on if you dont like your job then do something else! You should not be in the service industry if you cant show common social courtesies. Coffee was okay, "pastry" was moderate, but I do still like the feel of the place. Just too bad that there are those people that seem intent on sharing their poor understanding of how good they really have it. Will not return for several more years if at all possible.

Good coffee and fine atmosphere EXCEPT the radio playing todays top pop crap much too loudly...even with my headphones on the jarring strains of Gwen Stefani are making my brain quiver. Apparently they share a speaker system with Davannis, which is disappointing since the interior and name suggest more of a European bistro...some jazz might be more appropriate. Just sayin, if you need to concentrate, maybe give it a pass.

Coffee Bené is one of the most excellent coffee shops in Western Saint Paul. The atmosphere is fantastic. The music playing is always lovely (usually vocal pop or acoustic music). This is the only coffee shop Ive been to that NEVER has stale pastries - even right before close. The location is nice and calm; its near the University of Saint Thomas.

This is a nice, if hit-and-miss coffee shop, one of the occasional independent shops in the neighborhood -- although it is attached the Davanis Pizza and Hoagies nearby. It has the usual contract baked goods, and decent coffee. But it also has a nice meeting room that face Cleveland Avenue. Great place for meetings, gatherings and events.

Standard coffee. Great & friendly service. Warm, calm, quiet atmosphere. Good spot for studying/working or meeting up with a friend! Wifi is accessible if you ask the barista. (PS. Dont park in their back lot too long or else youll get towed. In the evening theres parking across the street in the St. Thomas lot accessible to customers.)

To whom it may concern, I suggest you stop serving those eggs. My brother and I ate breakfast sandwiches yesterday and now both have food poisoning. Pretty convinced it was the sandwiches we ate. Just wanted to say thanks. Happy Holidays! Sincerely, Mr. Dehydrated, nauseous, & feverish in bed

I was impressed with the atmosphere and bakery selection. The main negative is that they made the tea, especially the green tea, with water that was wayyyyyyy too hot. Dont scald the tea or my hand please! Otherwise, I do like this place and would have given it more stars!

Really clunky and unfriendly WiFi policy. They give you a unique code that you enter, enter your email (a fake one of course), then a captcha code, then sign into Facebook, then it expires after allotted time and you have to basically beg for a new code to get back online.

A bit spendy but I was really impressed with the wonderful flavors of my beverage. It was a great spot to meet with a friend and catch up. I didnt notice a loyalty program but that would help encourage me to be a returning customer!

I am not a big coffee drinker but stop in to Coffee Benè for their smoothies, tea, and muffins. Their muffins are amazing and they have such a variety (even in the afternoon). Always great service from their staff as well.

Great little one-off coffee shop! Very clean, and totally accommodating to groups or solo homework efforts. Their Jamaican-Me-Crazy coffee is totally delicious. The food looks fantastic, too, but I have yet to try it.

I like this place for their hot drinks, but Im not a huge fan of their cold press coffee. Also it always seems a bit loud, as its a popular meeting place for students. I take my drinks to go.

Awesome coffee, but its not just a coffee shop: they have great breakfast, lunch, and dinner food items! The best vegetarian lasagne! They also hasnt live music!

Love it. Wish they had their Korean menu-items (Pat-ping-soo, etc). Hopefully the St Paul location will someday. Still, they serve a very good cup.
