Wishing Horizon would stop giving life lessons when checking out. Each time Ive been in there Ive been given crazy attitude. First time I asked for the brown paper to wrap the book I was giving as a gift - instead of the floral design work. But I was informed thats "not really wrapping paper" so no. Who cares?! Im buying a book. Its rustic. I like it. Recently here to pick up a birthday gift for my mother when the florist designing her bouquet called. Lady behind the counter was pacing around with her hands behind her waist and I informed her over the mouthpiece I could check out. She informed me she could wait. I informed her I preferred not to and the attitude arose! I hung up and apologized but stated the angry backlash (thrusting my "see ID" in my face, pierced lips, etc.) wasnt kosher either. I then had the uproar of three women behind the counter. Two wrongs dont make a right ladies. Accept the apology and move on. No need to school the millennial. If phones arent allowed at the counter then post a sign or tape a note like every other shop. I know "[youre] a person" but I am one too. A paying one at that. Also one that had a gagillion things going on at once and just needed to get in and out. I should have just walked out and not finished my purchase. Recommendation: shhh its a library. Go to BAM.

Ive always loved spending time at this bookstore when Im in town. It has a great selection of books and magazine, a nice section of childrens books and toys, and many local books and magazines, even, on occasion, local art! It also has a naughty and magical little locked restricted section! The cafe is really nice too, far more creative than your typical Barnes and Noble Starbucks Cafes, with a nice deli and juice bar, as well as coffee if course.

Not a fan. They have never impressed me, and now, Im even less impressed. They ordered a book for me, failing to mention that I was obligated to buy it. Once it came in, I looked it over and decided it wasnt for me, unaware that I had to purchase it. I call that poor service. The attendants are never friendly, and it has always had a depressing atmosphere. Not recommended.

Their are a million reasons to visit Traverse City. But for me, Ill make a trip just to get my fill on books for a few months. Horizon Books has more reasonable pricing than place like Barnes and Noble, while still having an arguably bigger and more diverse selection. On top of the selection Horizon Books still maintains a local friendliness in its staff.

Nice bookstore but the lack of certain reading materials makes especially upset that Borders is going out of business. I also found the organization to be confusing and overall impulsive. The staff was nice but always seemed very busy or as if they didnt want to be bothered.

Selection is vast for specific genres. While some genres were rather small, overall the selection is great and there are many fun and rare finds. It has become a tradition to visit the store whenever we travel to traverse city.

A wonderful book shop for anywhere, but especially for a smaller town like Traverse City. Great selection of Michigan books as well as national titles. Be sure to check out the bargain and remainder books on the lower level.

Horizon Books, on Front Street in Traverse City is an AMAZING bookstore. Their staff is knowledgeable and ever-courteous. Prepare yourself for a level of customer service that disappeared upon the birth of the big-box store.

I give 4 stars becauseI thought it was great because my experience is limited but I have been to a Barnes and Noble. There are 3 stories of books and a some tables for reading. It was easy to navigate sections.

For what its worth this place is ok if you like fiction, drama, or any other non reality based books. As for project books, how to books, books on Christianity, they have a few very small sections.

GREAT customer service! Not only did they help me find a book, but being new to town and looking for a bite to eat, they helped me by recommending some really nice places to dine.

I remember when this was a JC Penneys. Kind of a messy feel to it but a lot more inviting than the slick, generic McBookstore chain.
