A trip to Westborn Market is more a wonderful destination for all of the variety of items that they carry. Produce is always fresh and rarely ever goes bad. Their Garden / Floral department is a great time waster as in a fun way. Their wine selection is better than mediocre, and they have a lot of Craft Beers especially Michigan breweries ☺ They seem to be competing with with Holiday Market with their freshly prepared meals, appetizers, side dishes and entrées. Alas the only downside in my humble opinion is is that they need to have a much more knowledgeable staff behind the the meat counter. Plus offer more variety of meats than what they already offer. Should be have a larger meat counter. For coffee aficionados well you are in luck and will most certainly come back for more ☺ as they roast theirs own coffee beans and that is one of their departments that is done perfectly with their many varieties of coffee ☕. So if you are looking for a market that is more cost efficient than Papa Joes give this market a look see and youll probably be back for more

It has a strange layout and is a bit pricey, but not a bad store. I would like to address the no gloves review. I am a health inspector, so I do come from experience when I say this. Gloves are worse than bare hands. Yes, they are. We are taught to believe that gloves are cleaner, but they often are not. They also come with a lot more strick use rules that are rarely ever followed. For example, gloves are often stored on the floors in warehouses where bugs and rodents can crawl all over them. Another, stores often store open packs in dusty storage rooms. So, when a person uses gloves, they can and often put nasty stuff all over your food. The employee must also wash their hands after every change of gloves. They never do. So unless they are touching raw meat for an extended period of time, inspectors would rather see the worker not use gloves and follow hand washing guidelines.

I am surprised at the tone of the reviews. I live nearby, and have been going to Westborn a few times per month for years. Their selection is great and the quality is very good. Of course, you still have to check that a particular piece of fruit is not overripe, but I have far fewer problems than at most other stores. I have found the staff to be very helpful - when I cannot find something, I ask politely, and usually a staff person takes me directly to the item. I dont get the prepared foods or the baked goods (although I am tempted), but they have a wide selection. They also have a very good olive bar. The prices are a little more than Trader Joes across the street, and the staff, often college students, are not super friendly like at TJ (but they are polite and well mannered). However, the selection is much better than TJs.

I got to stop going here....I swear the job requirement to work at this market is to be rude and ignore customers. I only go here for a about three items that I cannot find at other markets but every single time I am at the cash register, the cashiers generally dont even engage me. No "Hi", no "thank you", absolutely nothing. Yesterday when the two employees were talking to each other from the second I walked up to the register to the second i walked away..not once did they stop talking to even acknowledge me. Just rung up my items, dropped them in the bag and started with the next customer. Prices are higher than other markets on most items, if they had way better deals i would suck it up but they dont have anything better to offer other than those 3 items I like LOL

I only go to Westborn for emergencies, when the market across the street from them on Woodward doesnt carry what Im looking for. Its always hit or miss on the quality of fruits and veggies at the Westborn market on Woodward. Ive been so disappoint many times when I cut into an avocado and its all brown. Or even today I stopped in for some Plantains, and there were only a handful to choose from and they were all brown and mushy. The tomatoes have been dry and mealy too. Need to find better quality of suppliers.

We are so lucky in Berkley to have Westborn Market. Everyone so very helpful, love the cheese dept and the cheese lady has helped us so much with selections; the deli;sliced meats;the meat dept. Do not mind paying a few cents more and thats all it really is; for fresh produce that looks beautiful; top of the line deli meats; fresh cut and ground meats; beautiful take out dept. Bakery might be a little high, but most first class bakeries are. Just a first class store

I love Westborn Market (all locations) but their fruits & veggies are very overpriced. I stopped in here once because I had to grab a few things to make a salad & it was on my way...I paid $12 for my salad items when on the norm shopping at a different market I would pay about $7 & that is a huge difference! I do however highly recommend their outdoor grill burgers & dogs (inexpensive) and their bakery specialty items which are expensive & worth every penny!!

An employee collecting carts knocked one off a curb and into my car causing a sizable dent and scratch. I reported the accident to the mgr on duty and havent received a response from the store mgr, not even a simple apology, which is all I really wanted. Im tempted to sue them in small claims court but its not worth my time. From now on Ill be shopping anywhere else. There are plenty of places to buy food -- its not as if they sell anything unique.

NOT GOOD! I went to get flavored coffee beans that I could course grind. There was no scale for weighing the coffee in ounces. I had to use the produce scales which were inaccurate; the were registering one(1) ounce when empty. There was no one readily available to assist and when I located someone they were rude and unhelpful. As soon as I find somewhere else that carries whole, flavored bulk coffee beans, you can bet I wont be back to Westborn.

I used to buy prepared dinners at the Berkeley store but dont anymore because on many occasions the food preparers and handlers do not wear the plastic gloves. I have spoken a couple times to the store manager about this and nothing ever changes. I even one day saw an employee mixing up the salad at the salad bar with his BARE hands. Now if I want to purchase a prepared meal I go to Holiday Market or shop at Trader Joes across the street.

It can be a little pricey but I go here every week for the meat counter and they have a lot of items that you dont find at other stores. They also have a lot of fresh produce that always looks good plus a huge beer selection and a very tempting pastry counter. The aisles can be tight but nothing that difficult to manage.

The bakery department is ridiculous. Every time I shop there, no one is tending the bakery counter. I once waited for almost 15 minutes, even with 2 overhead pages for someone to come to the counter...irresponsible and lack of teamwork. Red velvet cupcakes are terrible, mini cheesecakes are decent at most.
