Coincidentally enough my experience reflects the experience below mine pretty on point exactly. I went in last week for my very first appointment and I didnt even make it to the exam. I put the brakes on her right when she told me there was a $60 cash contact fitting fee. That my insurance would not cover. Now lets think about that for a minute $60 for A contact fitting fee? You mean to tell me my really good insurance that pays for my entire exam and six months of contacts is not going to cover your $60 contact fitting fee? Really because that sounds like a scam that sounds like a waste of my money and that sounds like I need to leave like now and thats exactly what I did. Im not giving them any money just because their downtown. Yeah whatever sorry your rents high and youre downtown. Obviously they dont care about customer satisfaction. Honestly I couldnt stomach the idea of giving them an extra $60 for nothing. Absolutely nothing I only need the prescription I dont need them to make sure it fits my eyes. Can you say scam me please? As soon as she told me that I turned around and left. Takahashi I care never pull that bs on me.

Trust me, you deserve better than what Bennett has to offer. Extremely high prices - Youre basically setting your money on fire the moment you agree to give Bennett your business. Bennett has *by far* the highest prices anywhere (whether or not you use insurance). Awful customer service - Granted, the staff put on a friendly guise. Aside from that, however, there is no actual desire on the part of the company to ensure customer satisfaction. The company is completely inflexible in the face of any concerns you may raise. Ive been nickel-and-dimed more than once after Bennett had misled me, with respect to both eye exams and eyewear purchases. In Bennetts mind, the situation is remedied as long as theyve secured your money; if youre not happy or feel cheated, well, thats just too bad. Do yourself a favor and just dont go to Bennett. I dont care how convenient the downtown location may be. Youre better off getting a Costco membership *purely* to use its optical center. Youll likely save a few hundred bucks in the process (even if Bennett takes your insurance and Costco doesnt!)

I had an eye assessment done at Bennett and had brought a single sheet for them to fill out with just the basic information that I needed to pass on (that also had information from a doctor at a different clinic and couldnt be easily reproduced). After being told that they were going to fill it out later that day and send it to me via mail, I left feeling satisfied. Two weeks later, I still didnt receive my document, and after another week of calling them and eventually just walking in, got confirmation that they were going to finally get around to it. I never received it, and eventually just reproduced the lost document and went to a different clinic to have the assessment. On a separate effort, I also wanted to simply browse their sunglasses frames, which involved them checking my insurance and payment methods before I was even allowed to look. Perhaps I came on a off day, but the staff member that was assigned to watch me as I looked at the frames came off as rather pressuring, and resulted in an overall very poor experience.

After a series of less than positive experiences at various eye doctors offices, I heard from a friend that Dr. Gillihan at Bennett was great. So, I took a leap of faith and drove the hour to Ann Arbor to check it out. The staff was friendly, and my exam was impressively thorough. In the past Ive felt sort of rushed through the process, but here they were thorough and patient. Dr. Gillihan told me more about my eyes in the few minutes I was with him than any eye doctor had told me in 35 years. I was very impressed, very happy, and I look forward to my visits. They also have seen my daughter since she was three. Shes nervous about any doctor like most kids her age, but she is always excited to go here. She LOVES the eye doctor. She even mimicks her exams on her stuffed animals at home. It is so worth the drive!!

I would highly recommend Bennett Optometry for contact lens wearers. I was having trouble with my contacts and Dr. Bennett and Dr. Wieringa helped get me into the best contacts for my current issues. Dr. Wieringa answered all my questions thoroughly and helped me figure out what was happening. Michelle Cross, the contact lens technician, helped me get multiple samples and then helped with problems I was having after I purchased lenses. While my initial eye exam/contact fitting fee cost more than I was used to paying, it covered all my return visits (I turned into a somewhat complicated patient). Dr. Bennett and his staff were knowledgeable and patient—I’m really happy with the quality of care I received at Bennett Optometry.

Ive been going to Dr. Wierenga for roughly 8 years and hes been the best Ive ever "seen" since wearing glasses for 30+ years. Hes patient and thorough, explaining and answering everything with enough detail that I dont need to call or visit to get clarification. I recently decided to switch to contacts, and he and the staff were great with my transition. I highly recommend him and this office. Theres a fairly good selection of frames, too. The opticians are just as patient to provide excellent service. Since this is downtown Ann Arbor, plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early to park and walk to the office. Parking validation, too. Just make sure you get enough voucher cards to cover your time.

My family and I have been going to Bennett Optometry since 1998. I love the friendly staff and doctors. Its nice to go somewhere where you know the team (James, Joyce and some of the doctors). James is always very helpful in providing stylish glasses I should consider. He is very patient. Joyce is one of the friendliest on the team. She makes you feel welcome when you first walk in to see her with her bright smile. Joyce has seen two of my kids since they were babies and remembers them when she sees them. Keep up the great work with exceptional service!

I have never had a worse experience than dealing with the Bennett staff. I went there because they are on my insurance preferred provider list. My insurance gives me a free yearly exam and free glasses or money towards contacts, but Bennett found a way to charge me $170 for the free exam. I payed my bill just to stop dealing with them, but now they wont release my prescription to my other doctor and insist that ordered contacts from them and they billed my insurance for it.

I started going to Bennett Optometry after the DOC in Briarwood Mall turned into a Pearl Vision, which does not accept my vision insurance plan, and Ive never been disappointed. The staff is much more friendly than the staff at DOC was and theres a lot more glasses available that are covered by my plan...not just the one small section that DOC had. That, and theyve always been very patient with my child, even though hes not overly cooperative.

I like this place. Everyone here is very friendly and helpful. The only issue I occasionally have is that I never see the same doctor twice. But I dont have one in particular that I like, so I dont ask for the same one when I make an appointment. I take whichever optometrist is available when it suits my schedule. Ive found them all very nice and knowledgeable. Ive recommended this office to many of my family and business associates.
