My advice to this shop would be to stop selling gift certificates as you do not know how to treat people who come in to redeem them. Being inept at bookkeeping practices, hiring dishonest employees or being rude owners are not legitimate excuses to treat customers as thieves. The owner who had sold my gift certificate had neglected to write it in the book and thought it was one of four that an employee had stolen. I explained where I got it from and who had purchased it but their response to this was that they were going to have to call the purchaser, as if I was lying. An awful lot of humiliation for $25.00 worth of pesto and chocolate. I informed the local businessman who had purchased the certificate of my experience and he went in to speak to them. They told him they wanted me to go back in so they could apologize to me. Reluctantly I obliged. Not only did the owner not make me feel better about the situation but she pulled out one of the so-called $20.00 stolen gift certificates and asked me if it were mine! She tried to blame it on a blonde holiday employee but I am pretty sure she was the culprit. If you want to be in the business of retail sales you must learn how to provide customer service. This store is a long way from providing this.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this shop. I am so happy we found it while walking around Newburyport yesterday. I love that they have full descriptions of almost all the wines. The best though are their selection of cheese and cured meats. We ended up going home with a big slice of a brie, ghost pepper salami and soppressata. You can taste anything they have and they are super friendly.
