My experience was ok. My girlfriend and I just had dinner in the Old Port; and I felt like having a cigar while she shopped. The staff was fairly pleasant, he asked if I had any questions. I found my way to the humidor and there was a decent selection of cigars. You would find any typical cigar you would in any other walk in humidor. Due to it being the Old Port, I found the prices to be a little more at this place. The markup on a good cigar was 3$-4$ more than my favorite cigar lounge. I took my time looking, and usually a good cigar/wine sommelier will chat it up and to see what you like; but in this case he did not. I found a middle of the road $11 dollar smoke, and the gentleman did offer to cut it for me and prepared the smoke wonderfully and gave me good quality Oliva pipe matches. All in all Id say it was okay to a local like myself, but I can see the charm it has (being the Old Port) for the tourists on the ships we get. On a scale of 1-10 Id give it a 6 1/2.

i was at wits end until i discovered this wonderful shop. i had been looking for a special champagne/chocolate/cheese wedding gift basket, but confronted stupid maine alcohol beverage law restrictions with various online retailers and local retailers, including the hotel where my wedding party had a room. but alas, Jack and Lori saved the day. my friends loved the custom gift package and love me more. if not for this terrific shop, i would have been totally out of luck. they were patient, understanding, caring and prompt in fulfilling my needs all the way from montana. i endorse this business enthusiastically for all customers requiring quality personal service.

Took 2 bottles of wine to the counter, the proprietor rand them up and I noticed the total seemed higher than it should be. I questioned it and it seems one bottle was incorrectly priced with a sticker ($3 difference). He said the price was wrong and said he didnt know who did that. I said neither did I. He did not honor the price on the bottle and stopped short of accusing me of doing it Would never go back to a place that treats customers in such a way. Also possibly a scam as is it really possible that out of hundreds of bottles I pick the one that has an incorrect price?

Anyone visiting Portland, Maine and enjoys wine, champagne, or cigars must visit Old Port Wine Merchants. The store has an excellent selection of all the aforementioned items. The owner’s knowledge, enthusiasm, and generosity are unparallel. My fiancé and I specifically seek out this shop every time we visit Portland because we know that we will walk out with something unexpected and perfect for every occasion.

My fiancé and I were looking for a particular box of "Its a Boy" cigars and a bottle of champagne to celebrate the upcoming birth of our first son. Jacques was extremely friendly and incredibly knowledgeable in the wide variety of cigars, wines, champagnes, etc that they carry, a true gentleman! Our wedding is scheduled for September and we will certainly be revisiting again prior to. Thank you again!

I cant say enough regarding the kindness and helpfulness of this shop and the owner. I wish I had caught his name. We popped in at random and found a beautiful bottle of Luce wine which was uniquely special to us. The owner went out of his way to find the original wooden box for us to put it in which was simply amazingly sweet. The selection of wines of all varieties and prices was spectacular.

Stopped in while in Maine for a wedding. My original intent was to browse (kill time), but discovered all they had and was amazed. The staff was extremely helpful and sincerely kind and friendly. I look forward to my next visit, I will definitely stop in again. This is a storefront that deserves the business.
