When this place first opened, i stayed away because i figured they had a few loss leaders to get you in the door, but the rest of the stuff was the same price as elsewhere. Boy, was i wrong. Everything is cheaper. Coffee pods that never go on sale for less than 11.00 anywhere else are priced everyday at 6.95. They always have great baked goods from the in-store bakery are fresh, plentiful and cheap. Lots of prepared foods (including a damn good sushi bar for a supermarket) at great prices. Meats, deli, produce, canned goods - all in plentiful quantities and much less than Stop n Shop or Shaws. I honestly dont see how the others survive. Do you get the idea that I love this place?? Now i still hit the local markets and fishmongers for some things that I cannot buy at MB, but for a big store they have a lot going for them. I know I am eating better for what i pay.now Check it out. I think you will become a fan too. 09/2012: Im revising my rating with this additional note. I have found that it is very important to not only pay attention to the pull date of any kind of fresh foods or meat, but also to make sure you cook or freeze it BEFORE the pull date. Most other stores set their dates to allow at least a couple of days past the date on the label. Normally, as long as you transport and store it properly, the date indicates when the store is going to pull the item from the shelf; its not the deadline for freshness. At least 4 times recently, I have purchased meat at Market Basket that I tried to cook either on the pull date itself or one day in either direction. In all of the cases, the food was spoiled and rancid, even when it was not yet the date on the label. I am used to shopping once a week for fresh items and feeling comfortable that I can prepare most things right up to the pull date or on the next day after it and the food will be still fresh and edible. Not so with Market Basket. I have to prepare or freeze within 1-3 days from the purchase date or expect to have to return the items because theyll be spoiled. To the stores credit, they have never given me a hard time exchanging anything or even getting a refund if I have the receipt. Its just the inconvenience of having to shop more than once a week and then still sometimes having bad meat that must be returned. I had given the store 3 points for quality and am lowering it to 1 point because of this.

Usually I love shopping there, however, I had the worse experience EVER with the Bakery Department and the Manager, Peter. It was the day of my 3 year old sons birthday, I went to pick up his cake at 11...I get there and notice his name was spelled incorrectly on the cake, keep in mind days before the kid inputting the information on the order slip made sure his name was correct on the form. Anyways, I ask them to fix it...the girl attempts to fix it with her finger!!! nooooo gloves, how friggen disgusting is that???...they give me the cake and its still incorrect, at this point she actually uses the tool to correct it. Soooo I go and make a complaint at Customer Service, Peter, the Bakery Manager has the nerve to ask me if I want a new cake...ummmm no! my sons party was in 2 hours. I end up paying full price for an unsanitary cake, how disgusting. I was so upset that I didnt think to just leave the cake there. From now on no more cakes at Market Basket, I guess its true...you get what you pay for.

Never had a bad experience here while doing my groceries except for one time when this cashier (African American women) could not let me pay for my groceries with my husbands credit card. She gave me such a hard time with my purchase which was only $50-,. Her reason was that since it was not my name on the card, it would run as fraud on the receipt. She had to call her supervisor and kept mentioning to me that it was the store policy. Over and over again. I told her I never had this problem before with my other purchases. So that day I had to leave the store without my groceries, feeling embarrassed about this. Called my husband to tell about the incident, he called the corporate and they apologized and said that the employee was poorly informed about store policy with credit cards.

Awesome awesome deals, stellar employees, excellent prices, and amazing bakery and cooked food offerings! Best prices around. Only downfall, isles are way too small, with wayyyy too much stuff packed into them. And, along w the isles being far too small, and stuff stacked in them, they also do their stock during the day bc its super busy, and I dknt think they stock at night, so u also have stock and the stock people to maneuver around as well. And, its ALWAYS packed w people. While I love the saving I get, I hate the cluster "puck" I have to deal with going in, so I def try to get what I can elsewhere, and go there for the necessary things once a month, and stock up!

Do all the ignorant and rude people of New Bedford shop here? stop STANDING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ISLE, TALKING ON YOUR PHONE WHILE PEOPLE ARE TRYING TO GET BY! DO YOU OWN ANY CLOTHES BESIDES PAJAMAS? 5 LITTLE RUGRATS RUNNING AND SCREAMING WHILE MOM IS OBLIVIOUS. YEP, MY TAX DOLLARS AT WORK SO YOU CAN USE YOUR FOOD STAMPS TO BUY COOKIES, ICECEAM, CANDY, PROCESSED JUNK FOOD. WHILE IM STRUGGLE TO FEED MY FAMILY! I AM SO TIRED OF HAVING TO LISTEN TO YOUR CONVERSATION ON THE PHONE WITH YOUR BOYFRIEND. GET A ROOM! STOP LETTING YOUR BRATS OPEN CANDY, EAT SOME, AND PUT IT BACK! I KNOW THIS IS IN THE GHETTO OF NEW BEDFORD AND THAT ATTRACKS GHETTO PEOPLE SO I will stay shoppin at S&S

You know what youre going to get at a MB. Cheap groceries, but the store is always super crowded. PROS: Always well staffed. Its a high traffic store, so you will probably wait no matter what, but at least its not only a few lanes open and probably bagging your own stuff like some of the higher prices stores. Very low prices, has a huge selection of products. Has seating area in cafe complete with microwave. CONS: Gotta inspect meat and produce for freshness. Crowded. Bathrooms are gross. Cafe area is nice feature but often dirty. I think they cant be totally blamed for the fact some of the customers are total slobs, but they could do a better job of cleaning up.

I enjoy the discount and selection. The service is great when you ask or need something. The only downfall Ive had the last few times Ive been is in the deli.. I order from the deli for fresh cuts and cheese. As of the last few times Ive been given the cheaper processed selects instead of the choices Ive selected. There is a big difference in land o lakes cheese and the generic also in the meats. Very big let down. Be sure to check your deli orders before you leave the store..... I will be going back with my deli orders tomorrow and getting what I paid for...
