The Micro Center website offers the ability to shop online and pick up ones order at the store and shows the location and quantity of each item the store has in stock. Ive found the site very convenient and a major time saver, despite occasional inaccuracies. In the physical store, the employees certainly do try to be helpful, possibly because they are paid by commission. (Employees place stickers with their name and barcode on items they help you find, and these are scanned at checkout.) I suggest treating their recommendations with a degree of skepticism in general and being especially wary in the DIY department. My experience with this store has been almost exclusively confined to the DIY/hobbyist section (which contains, e.g., electronic components, kits, soldering irons, tools). I have been unable to find any employees with more than passing knowledge about the products in this section. They are often unable to even locate items within it, and it is by far the least organized part of the store (although it does get cleaned up occasionally). Ive found this stores staff entirely unqualified to offer advice regarding even basic electronics projects (for example, identifying an appropriate soldering iron and necessary materials for replacing a component on a circuit board), although they sometimes offer such advice anyway. Though I am far from an expert myself, Ive learned enough to recognize what Ive been told by Micro Center employees as somewhere between useless and outright wrong. More specialized electronics stores typically employ staff knowledgeable and experienced enough to provide valuable advice (even beyond simple product selection); unfortunately, such stores are rare and getting rarer. On the other hand, Micro Center offers a wider selection, lower prices, and greater convenience. My experience with the remainder of the store has mostly been limited to the purchase of small items such as cables and SD cards, which store employees were able to locate. Ive found the amount employees know about a product increases with its price; the commission system provides a greater incentive to learn about a big-ticket item like a TV rather than a pack of resistors selling for a dollar.

Back in January, smoke came out of my laptop while I was charging it so I went to Towson Micro Center to get it repaired. It took them six months to diagnose, order parts and repair my device. There were several times when they told me that parts are in "back order" so the parts took such a long time to get delivered. They first said it was a motherboard issue (of course, because thats the most expensive part and they ask you to pay for the parts on top of the labor), then it was a frayed cable, then it was my display screen. When they returned my laptop to me, it wasnt even back to its original form. They replaced my high definition screen with a generic screen. They told me about this replacement except they forgot to mention the "generic" part. I am very disappointed with this store. The turn around time of 6 months was unacceptable. The total cost of the repair was $430 which included the motherboard replacement that I find slower than what I had originally. The screen replacement to a generic type without my consent was just plain unprofessional. And I had to endure my last semester in college without a laptop made my last year as a senior 100x harder than it already is. I still choose to give them 2 out of 5 stars because they tried to compensate for their actions somehow. They gave me a 50% discount ($75 off) for labor, they threw in a free Asus charger (which likely caused the smoke in the first place), and their employees were polite during the latter part of the repair period (not until I expressed my initial disappointment with the turn around time).

The staff are always very helpful! Seriously Just ask one for help or if you have a product question, they know far more then any knuckle head at best buy, My husband has built 4 computers, from bare bone box to a computer that out preforms the ones on the market. The brand name products are excellent! The graphics cards, processors, memory etc. are organized perfectly. Their prices generally always beat NewEgg and Amazon, but if the sticker price doesnt they WILL price match. If your an apple freak they have a section just for you. Otherwise for normal people they have an much better selection of computers tablets and monitors then best buy could even try to have. I personally have purchased a touch screen monitor for the tower my husband built. I have had ZERO issues with it. My keyboard from there is out of this world, the wireless mouse that I can use up in the air to point like a remote is great. We even hooked a computer up to our tv, 80 monitor is pretty sweet. All of the cables, attachments and such work great! The printer paper section, the stickers, photostock, cardstock etc. is cheaper then all office supply stores. WE have ***NEVER gotten a defective item.****** We have spend thousands of dollars here, so if so many items are defective i would imagine by now we would have found one. So those who say this may not know how to use the items. Just a logical view if everything they buy is defective!

I came in and saw the iphone six plus for a great monthly deal. I got immediately excited and decided I wanted it. The tech helped me and tried his best to set up the contact. He had trouble getting the system to work but damn he tried his best and was very helpful. What upset me was when he tried to radio for help no one would come over. Here this poor dude has been trying for like forty minutes to get it to work, and no one in that huge store could help him. As someone who has worked in customer service for many years its my guess that they are encouraged to give each customer personal attention which I expect to take up a lot of time, however in that case I could have even lived with say another person saying Ill be there when I can. This was sadly not the case, no one would come help him out. Im going to try again, I would love to have that phone, if its better next time will update my review, my personal opinion is theyre understaffed, and if hours allow it a few more people would help. Ok doing an update: I received a call from the customer service offering to make right what went wrong in my first experience going to go back later to get the phone

My experience here was truly unbelievable. I agree with all of the positive reviews here about buying laptops from them, good prices, a lot of inventory, etc. etc. However, if you do end up buying a laptop from here do not, I repeat do not, use the service department. Bought a very expensive laptop from this location and due to a manufactures error, diagnosed by their service team, I took it in to get serviced. I dropped the laptop off working with a simple faint line in the middle, which I could have lived with but after spending a lot of money on a computer I wanted it fixed. They left me a voicemail after "repairing screen" that the screen was not the issue. Long story short I picked it up while waiting for them to get a new video cord, took it back to my office and it did not work at all. Screen was black. After spending almost 2 days trying to get my only working laptop up and running it is still not resolved and my only options are to get a brand new laptop or allow them to run diagnostic tests for a few phours and take 3-5 business days to get the part
