Well, yes, the prices can be high. But its a specialty market, folks! Bargain shoppers will be happier at Aldi. I enjoy a visit to Roots every few weeks, for a treat -- not for buying staple items. In addition to a good selection of typical health food store fare (e.g. alternative sweeteners) Roots has a lot of gluten-free items (awesome cookies), vegetarian and vegan prepared foods (e.g. vegetarian "crab" dip), and a great beer and wine selection. They also have a few fun toys, clothes, beeswax candles, and food accessories like eco-friendly lunch packs and bamboo flatware. A lot of the pleasure of shopping in a store like Roots is the aesthetics -- things are nicely displayed. So its more of a whole sensory experience than you get at no-frills Aldi or even a typical Safeway or Giant. The staff at Roots have always been pleasant to me - maybe thats because Im not copping an attitude about shopping there.

I shop at Roots in Olney regularly. The staff are educated and helpful. They are always willing to recheck something or find out the answer to a question, and are happy for suggestions about new products. The store is always well stocked. I find just enough new things to try without the disappointment of not being able to find what I have come for. Their produce is excellent if a small department. They have gluten free products that are easy to find, in addition to their specific aisle. Not only am I happy with what they have, I dont need to compromise on our nutritional standards. I dont know what I did before they opened, but I hope I never have to manage without them!

Do not come here if youre purchasing alcohol and look under the age of ~40, as the staff (cashiers and mangers alike) will harass you for an ID, and repeatedly claim that your ID is fake. Beer/wine prices are MUCH MUCH higher than Safeway or My Organic Market, both of which have similar and growing selections of local/organic/craft brews. Overall, Ive had multiple negative experiences with attitudes of staff & managers. I will drive the extra 20 minutes to other organic markets, be treated with more respect, and pay less for the same products.

Pros: Great Selection Knowledgeable and Nice Employees Pleasant Atmosphere Free Samples Cons: Price! I enjoyed shopping at this store. However, their prices are higher on everything, including products sold at regular grocery stores. I comparison shopped at Trader Joes and while some prices were close others were 50% higher or more at roots and never lower. This is a good store with great people and selection but I cant convince myself to pay the outrageous prices.

Gourmet, organic, unusual and delicious food. Beer and wine, too. This is a gem in our neighborhood. Pro tip: try cultured, salted butter, but beware, you may never want normal butter again. The hot food bar and salad bar are great but the cold sandwiches are great, too. Lunch, groceries, fine cheese for a party, a quick hot meal, excellent breads, are all at Roots. Yes I am a big fan.

I have been coming here for years to get groceries. Their prices are moderate, but the food is high-quality and there is a wide selection of health conscious products. There is a lot of free samples, a hot food bar, a salad bar, and freshly baked goods. One other major plus is that in comparison to many other grocery stores, their bathrooms are always clean.

Good But Pricey! Didnt know they had a hot food bar. That was an unexpected tasty pleasure to accompany the ever-wondeful sweet potato cake. But the Japanese sweet potatoes cost so much... lets just say, thrse better make the best dish ever and, since theyre so filling, hope there will be at least a dozen servings.

Great place for organic or not your run of the mill products, especially when youre in a pinch. You pay a convenience premium since its in the area as opposed to driving to Rockville for similar markets though. They offer osmosis filtered water for a fantastic rate per gallon and have incredibly friendly staff.

Great selection of organic and special-diet foods at prices that beat the big stores. Generally can find items 20%+ lower priced. Friendly staff, good organic selection (Including frozen), beer and wine too. Trying to raise a small child on more wholesome diet is easier thanks to this store.

Wonderful! They pack a BIG selection into their space, with a ton of free samples so you can try tons of their delicious made-in-store foods (like their organic honey roasted peanut butter ). More expensive than a regular grocery store, but thats to be expected for what youre getting.

If it wasnt for the convenience, Id rather go to Whole Foods! Everything is overpriced and people at the register (yes 1! Only 1 register open most of the time) are not friendly! I gave it an extra star because at least the other staff members are somewhat a little nicer.

Roots is great for those hard to find "Natural" items. The price is a little bit higher than others but it is nice to know they have things in stock. I do not think there has ever been a time where I was unable to find the item I wanted, so far as they carry it.

Kind of like moms market it has a hot and cold bar priced by the pound ready made sandwiches and sandwiches made to order one of my favorite stores and also has a lot organic and vegan options even on their hot and cold food bars and I am a vegan. Must Try

I really like this unique grocery store. youll find a great array of almost anything you want. They focus on organic, fair trade, and somewhat exotic foods. I dont go very often because its pricier than most other grocery stores but I still like it.

Its large, clean and has lots of selection but this place is incredibly expensive. Im not sure I could afford a whole lot of groceries there and there are other more affordable alternatives, which (gasp!) would include Whole Foods.

Great little grocer. Excellent selection of organic and hard to find alternative products. Local wines and beers as well and a good selection of herbs and vitamins, also hard to find in your big-brand super markets.

Best place for Vegan products. Been shopping here since it opened. Its definitely become popular. I do find the Clarksville Roots Careys some things Olney store doesnt. But all in all love this market.

Nicely stocked health food store with a great salad bar. Good selection of cheeses. All natural alternative medicine area. Prices are what you expect from an organic grocery.

A bit pricey but its worth every penny. They have my favorite and hard to get natural items. The staff are personable and customer oriented. I highly recommend.

Roots offers locally grown produce, and some very tasty sandwiches, soups, and salads they make. The craft beer selection is surprisingly good too.

Roots Market is a very good organic and fresh food market. Their selection is very good. They even have a hot food bar. Parking is tight though.

Roots is the creme de la creme of organic markets. Their store-made specialties are awesome. The bread (baked by The Upper Crust) is to die for.

Having a natural food store in my neighborhood is a great relief to us. I love Roots Market Olney, they have a wide variety of organic produce.
