It is a small location. Clothes and shoes upstairs, equipment downstairs. No huge clearance shoe racks, no tennis racket stringing or bike shop. Im not sure about other services or rentals. I dont recall any water sports. There is a sign on the stairs listing events. The camping/ climbing selection is decent. Tons of backpacks (commuter, water, camp ect) moderate cycling GEAR section. No bikes. If you need something simple for them, great but if your looking for cleats, pedals, seats youre better off in a different location. VERY limited childrens clothing and accessories. Lines can get long downstairs on the weekends so check the upstairs registers. There is parking in the rear, though with all the shops, still difficult on weekends. Norm, Im an REI LOVER, I was a bit disappointed with a convo today I had on the phone. Called to ask a simple question and before I was done being answered was told abruptly "well I have to go, so" and then she hung up. Def not the service Im used to in this company. It was however a single event and norm the staff here are very nice, though few working.

By far my worst customer service experience of any REI has come at this store, at least in the cycling department. I first called to inquire about the Surly Cross Check. I planned to purchase it that weekend. I was told that it would be built and that, if for some reason it wasnt, I would be called. I was not called. I went in (45 min away), waited 20 minutes to be seen, and was then told that no, it wasnt built. I was offered a halfhearted apology and told that "if I really wanted it built, I should have bought it"--before I had even had the chance to test ride it or size it. The next week I gave them another chance. I called and asked for the total price for the Cross Check with a substitute part. I was told, once again, that someone would call me back once they figured out the price. 5 days later and no call. I took my business to a local bike shop instead.

I finally got the chance to visit the new store and was surprisingly disappointed. Yes they still have the gear you need, but downstairs looks like a poor attempt at cloning the downtown store. Even has the same cheesy beer can stove display. Upstairs has more space between the racks that seem to be exactly the same ones from the old location. Doesnt seem like more selection just more space. My only other comment is about the standardized displays, particularly the Yakima one. Yakima also is being de-emphasized in favor of Thule. Very few products on display. The staff also might need some advice as well, as when I complained about the display and stocks, I got a "well we just had a sale. . ." You never say that to a customer! Makes them feel bad. All in all a mediocre experience.

There is a reason we shop at REI. I had a problem with my Ex-Wife today when she bought something for 200 and then and the 20% Coupon arrived. I understand that we could not use the coupon retroactively but she did not. The manager helped me out by going over the sale and letting me know what to do. He actually save me 75 and "the amount of stress" PRICELESS ! Way to go "D"... They are always nice, take their time, and are extremely nice --- add compassionate for someone under stress and they are super awesome. John Terrell

Ive been coming to the REI on the pike since the early 2000s, and they never disappoint. All the staff are knowledgeable about the gear they carry, and if someone doesnt have an answer for your question theyll find you someone that does. Way better than the downtown DC location, so I occasionally make a trip out here to avoid that one. They also let me take my dog out of her carrier and walk around on leash in the store and all the staff were very excited to meet her.

LOVE this REI. Im new to area and from the PNW so I have frequented a many REIs in my day, so the superb customer service was expected but always refreshing and appreciated. Every time I have been here there arent too many people shopping which I really like, I can get all the experts to myself. It is a smaller location so there wasnt as large of a womens clothing selection as I am used to but I always manage to find things to spend lots of money on.

Lovely store. Lines a bit longer than I appreciate waiting for; but hey, the place is new. That godawful parking garage is a crime against driving. Fortunately, one of the staff clued me in to a nearby open lot, just a few minutes away. Its just too bad the obvious parking structure for this shop is so, so bad. Yes, I count parking toward the shopping experience. Addendum: Paying via NFC/phone not available.

REI - the one place shop for folks who are in to serious outdoor activities and who want an honest opinion on the correct gear for their passion. Its hard to find a comparable store to what REI stands for and offers. The folks here never upsell you and in fact are honest in their opinion on what you really need and not want :) Plus the membership credit at the end of the year helps too :P

Nice atmosphere but cashiers are slow and chit chat too much and they answer phone calls at the same time and tKe away from service, they should have a person that only answers phone calls. After speaki bg witb a manager she said "thanks for your feedback" but she should hav said "im sorry, i hope to fix your problem" staff wondering around the store didnt help us at all.

Lowered expectations. Thats the only way this store gets positive ratings. Baileys Crossroads store has much better selection and knowledgeable service. Rockville store kinda sucks. Have gotten poor to wrong advice on camping gear and bicycles. Convenient for picking up mail orders though. Head to Baileys Crossroads or possibly DC store for a better experience.

Very poor customer service. I was misdirected twice in the store to find the item I was looking for, then stood in line without moving for 20 minutes with 2 registers open. Saw several employees standing around, but none of the cashiers called for back up. Poor experience; Ill be ordering online or going elsewhere in the future.

Most complete, biggest REI Ive been to, yet! I like that the staff will ask you one time if you need help & if you dont need any then theyll leave you alone but not before saying to let them know if you have any questions. Then you can browse the whole store to your hearts content. Been to 5 other stores in CA & AZ.

Great products, but on Saturdays in the summer and fall, there is no parking in the outdoor REI lot adjacent to the store due to a Farmers Market bring there. You must park in the garage across the street, which is very cramped. Best time to go is during the week when parking is easier. No issues if you walk.

With two levels, it was easy to find my favorite (ground floor). I was able to find a friendly REI staff member around every other corner. Not to big or small. It was fun exploring all the new camping gear without feeling like being on a long hike.
