This place is wonderful! The staff are very friendly and are always willing to spend a considerable amount of time with you to help you decide on the best component for your needs. Their labor prices are far below what Im used to, and theyll often perform minor repairs while you wait—in plain sight! Always a good sign. They have a good selection of products, and theyre happy to special order things they dont carry. They even had the exact size of racing tire I needed to fix my bike! Two things really impressed me about their staff. First, when one of them was replacing my inner tube (after I had already popped one tube trying to replace it myself), the mechanic popped his brand-new tube. It turns out that my tire was faulty and had caused the pop. He had even warned me this might happen. Still, he didnt charge me for the tube he broke—only for the second tube he [successfully] installed after he replaced the tire. Secondly, Ive found that they wont necessarily counsel you to buy a more expensive component if a cheaper component will suit your needs. This has happened twice, both when I was purchasing a new tire and when I was ordering a replacement derailleur. In both instances, after I described my needs, they suggested that I buy the cheaper part. This is truly the mark of an excellent mechanic—worried more about good service than good profits. Its hard to find a good mechanic these days—for a car or a bike. Once you find a good one, you have to consider yourself lucky and stick with them. All bike shops are not created equal, and this one is truly a gem.

This is a great bike store! I do not know anything about bikes but was in need of some repairs on my older hybrid a few years ago for a tri that I was completing. The staff was wonderful (espeically Brian, who is the owner - I did not know that at the time) & did NOT try to sell me things or bikes I was not ready for... which was the most pleasant surprise. I went to another local bike shop that was the complete opposite experience & walked out of that store & never returned. I have also sent a few friends here & all of them have had positive experiences for any repairs, help, etc. Fast forward to a few weeks ago when I decided to finally buy a new road bike for some tris next season (I have never owned a road bike but decided I was ready as I plan to do several more tris) so off to the Bike Dr I went since I had such a great experience the first time. Again - it was excellent service! I bought a Lexa SLX & LOVE IT! I was lucky enough again to get Brian to help me decide & again he did not try to "sell" me anything. He brought my bike size into the shop for free & after a quick test ride I was sold. I even bought a trainer the same day & love it as well. Again, he did not try to sell me the most expensive trainer & he could have because I am still clueless about bikes. I got a fitting with my bike & have brought it back once already for some minor adjustments & Brian was again helpful. I absolutely love the bike & love this shop. I will not shop anywhere else.

This shop is terrific. I set out to buy my first and probably only road bike and decided to get the new Trek Silque. I knew I wanted the ultegra components but could not bring myself to buy the SL because it is pink and black. Pink and black are fine colors just not in a bike. I wanted the S frame(its the same 400 OCLV carbon as the SL but a beautiful crystal white with red, silver and orange accents with the SL components. None of the shops closer to Bethesda would even consider upgrading the S to the SL Then I called Bike Doctor Frederick and Brian was so willing to do this and it wasnt going to cost more than I would have paid for the SL. Also in the upgrade I was able to put an 11-32 cassette to make the gearing for climbing hills more closely resemble the triple I have been riding on my Trek 7.6 fx WSD hybrid. This all started when I decided to train for the Ride to Conquer Cancer(Sept 13 and 14) and started riding quite a bit. I will still ride my hybrid for the event because I will not have time to get used to a road bike, but I am so looking forward to making the transition to my new bike. Thank you Brian and the staff at Bike Doctor Frederick!!!

The Bike Doctor of Frederick is, without a question, the best shop I have dealt with in my many years of biking. I have had to do business with many shops in and around Washington, DC and I would recommend this shop to anybody. The management staff, particularly Brian and James, are friendly and passionate about bikes. They will not force you, or even suggest, that you buy the most expensive bike or component when a cheaper one will do. They special order anything not in stock what and let you know when it is in. They are knowledgeable and take the time to explain the details of the product. They take as much time selling a tricycle as they do a $4000 carbon bike - they really do! I always get the feeling that I am welcome in the shop, as opposed to most shops that treat customers as burdens. They deserve all the praise they get about being a good shop - they are the real thing when it comes to an outstanding shop that I hope stays in Frederick for a very long time.

I was looking at bikes for a few months, I stopped at Bike Doctor and was greeted by Brian. I was upfront and told him that I was unsure of what I wanted and was looking at used bikes. There was no pressure at all and he was very helpful throughout my process. I left feeling good. "Still watching Craigslist". I came in about a month later again just looking to see if there were any deals. They did in fact have a bike that peaked my interest. It was a little more bike than I needed but a very good deal. They let me ride it and another to compare them. Again I left. No pressure at all. I went to another local bike store and looked at a few other bikes. Service was ok but I felt like they werent listening to me. Just trying to sell me a bike. I went home and decided to buy the bike that Brian had shown me. I went back and bought a Salsa Horsetheif carbon. What a great experience. I will send everyone I meet to them and buy every thing I need from them in the future.

Unfortunately, I wont be returning to the Bike Doctor. I had a very simple repair: one of my tires was flat and needed a new tube, so I took it in, they worked for 15 minutes, and said it was fixed. A week later, I planned to go for a ride but could barely get on the bike. Turned out the seat was a few inches too high, so I took it back in and they adjusted it, saying the guy whod replaced the tube last time must have forgotten to lower it when he was done. OK, one ride ruined, not the end of the world. A few days later, I went for another ride and the same tire was flat in .2 miles, so I took it back in. They found that the tube had been installed improperly, causing it to get a tear. They replaced the tube and CHARGED ME A 2ND TIME, even after I explained the situation. So an extremely simple repair job cost me 2 spoiled bike rides, 3 trips to the store and being charged double, due to their negligence.
