The place smells, it was always dimly lit in there until recently (this has changed and it is better lit now), the cashiers are always understaffed and there is no self checkout option, the shelves are "well-stocked" because theres expired stuff still on the shelves (not at a reduced price either), and the meat selection is always very full for what Im afraid may be the same reason, given the smell that often hits as soon as you walk in there. Unfortunately, other grocery options around here arent super stellar either unless you can afford Whole Foods, but I would (and do) much rather go to Giant on Forest Dr. (at least theyre rotating stock off the shelves, have self checkout and are well-staffed, and workers are helpful and friendly, although its not the cleanest place either) or drive all the way to Ft. Meade for the commissary since its management has improved lately (I understand that is not an option for everyone) or even to H mart in Ellicott city. The only thing I shop here for in this Safeway is: 1. frozen seafood, which they often have good deals on, and which I dont have to worry about being in bad shape as much as long as I check the expiry date since its frozen. 2. occasional produce or canned goods (check the dates!) if I only need one or two things and am passing by anyway. I CAN say it is more brightly lit so you can actually see in there now, and the produce section in particular looks better than it did some months ago, so maybe management has improved these areas. Other things are still too big a problem to bother going here most of the time. Staff are still always acting inconvenienced to have to be working there, even the young ones who should theoretically be full of energy (nobody likes a minimum wage job but most of us have all been there and its no excuse to be cranky and move in slow motion -- but thats what the older workers do so of course the younger workers and new hires follow suit). Theres never anyone on the floor to ask for help, and no self-checkout lanes to save you when you only have two items and the max of two cashiers are moving like snails.

I had ordered a custom cake to be made for my sons 4th birthday. This would have been the 3rd year in a row, they were always delicious. I ordered it 2-3 weeks before the party and called 2 hours before to make sure they would have it ready. Well, when I called some guy answered and said they didnt make it and that I would not have my cake that day b/c their bakery person called out! Seriously, all they had to do was call me in the AM (the party was at 3PM) and I could have made alternate arrangements. No real apology, it was as if he didnt even care. I hung up, called the Giant on Riva Rd, and they luckily had one they could quickly decorate and saved the day! I called the manager a day later he was getting ready to go on vacation and asked me to call back another day and that "maybe" I would get a gift card for my trouble. Really????

I live in walking distance of this grocery store. I drive right past it and go to ANYWHERE else. If you enjoy spending more time waiting in 1 of the 2 maximum checkout lines that are open at any time you are in luck. I have taken my groceries back to their shelves and left after waiting in line for am unbelievable amount of time on more than one occasion. One bright note: a gentleman working behind the meat counter stopped in the middle of what he was doing to come around the counter and ask if he could help me. Please, staff more cashiers and coach your cashiers on efficiency, polite cashiers do customers no good if you have to stand there for 30 minutes before you get to one. I wrote this entire review while waiting in line..... 4 more people ahead of me to go......

I never post reviews on anything but I guess this is a special occasion...this is on my way home which is why I shop here, but I rather go out of my way. I walked in today and there were literally no carts or baskets available. And there were only two cashiers working (its a Sunday, so a busy shopping day) and like 10 people in each line. I just turned around and left. Also Ive unknowingly bought 3 week expired dairy there before. The next week it was still on the shelves. I couldnt even find anyone working to tell them about it. They should just shut this place down.

I can walk to this store in 5 minutes and I go out of my way to shop elsewhere. I have gotten home only to see that my food is expired, fruit goes moldy overnight and It always smells awful in there, not clean at all. I was looking for ricotta once and a clerk told me in a very rude tone that there was no such thing because if there was they would have it. Uh Ok? They never have more then two registers open and the cashiers on the whole are super rude. There are times when I say hello while they are ringing me up and get no response. This store is absolutely awful.

This is currently my go-to grocery store. Mostly just because its so close to my house. The store is just like any other Safeway. The quality of food is generally good as are the prices. I am knocking off one star though because around 5 - 7 PM during the rush they will routinely have only 2 registers open. Normally this would be somewhat OK since other stores have self-checkouts but this location does not. I would think that during peak rush more than 2 of their 12 registers would be open. It gets a little nuts sometimes but I prefer going later anyways.

This location is very close to me so I shop here for convenience only. There are only ever 1 or 2 cashiers on and always very rude. They do not greet you or a lot of times even respond to your greetings! The store is always filthy and I have watched the staff walk right past garbage on the ground, never stopping to pick it up. The advertised prices never ring up correctly, look over your receipt before you leave. Almost every visit I end up having to go to customer service for them to correct wrong pricing. Worst Safeway I have shopped at!

Customer Service is terrible, when I ask about something , questions are not answered properly, I asked about discount stamps they give as promotional offer, the reply I got was I am tired of people asking about stamps all the time, I am glad this ending in January. My wife asked about a product they had for sale, the employee at the store showed too much attitude and did not explain about it properly, she just answered in single word yes and No for all the questions about the product.

Awful Safeway. Had a horrible experience with a cashier who did not care and a rude/inconsiderate customer. Completely unacceptable how they treated me and several other customers . Store is very convenient for me but I will go out of my way not go back. Always seems dirty, cashiers are slow and rude. Just an awful place to shop. I called the manager and he said "she should not have done that". Thats all, great customer service, NOT.
