Ive lived in the area, shopped there for 25 years. Went in today, with some Carharts my sister had bought as present for me, which were wrong size. Thought she said the receipt was in the bag, but couldnt find it. The fellow who "helped" was cranky and prissy, spewing all kinds of rules about returns etc. (I had another pair, which another relative had given me, also wrong size, and he jumped all over me for trying to "pass off" this pair as having been bought at Me Hardware -- even though Id told him upfront I had no idea where theyd been bought -- and he was quickly able to scan label to tell that they werent.) The fellow was just plain rude, and Ive had much better service at Walmart. He treated me like I was trying to con him. Also (and this may not be his fault), said that if I wanted to replace pair with a cheaper pair (bec they didnt have the same higher-priced in my size), then I could not get cash back. I said, oh, ok well you can give me a store credit -- to which he snapped --- we dont give store credits. I think thats on management, and its a b.s. policy if thats so. So much for the down-home touch. Based on that experience, Ill shop elsewhere. (To be fair, theres one older fellow still there, who I know, who ALWAYS is cheerful and helpful, and remembers you.)

Dont go anywhere else!! Great selection, good prices and amazing service. Walked in there and explained a leak I had in the garage disposal and the very helpful employee explained exactly how to fix it and handled me everything I needed. I went home watched a dyi video for a refresher and BAM! problem solved exactly as the employee illustrated. Went in another time with a 20% off coupon for the entire purchase. I saw a paint sprayer that Ive been considering for awhile was $20 less than the big box stores, so I purchased it, along with paint and supplies. After the coupon, I walked out having spent $40 less than a big box store.

Maine Hardware is a Portland institution. Once you start shopping here, you will avoid the Home Despot when ever possible. They manage to have almost everything in a much more approachable store. They have helped me solve so many problems, from fixing leaky faucets, to retapping a cross threaded bolt, to carpet cleaner rental, and at least a hundred other things. Not all the staff is 100% fabulous, but most of them make up for any gaps in knowledge with great service. A great store an free popcorn!

My favorite place to shop! After remodeling 2 commercial spaces, a house, and owning a multi-family, Ive gone to them with my share of projects and theyve never steered me wrong. Sure, one or 2 products didnt work for me as they were different than what I finally needed, but theyd gladly take them back. I find the staff very helpful - its like going to my dad. SIgn up for their Ace Rewards and youll get credits to spend in store.

You get what you pay for. Big-box home improvement retailers may offer cheaper prices than here, but you are lucky to find employees at the big name places that know as much about hardware as these people do. You have to look for ten minutes at a big-box place to even find someone to try to answer your question. Here you cant walk from one end of the store to the other without five or six people offering to help.

I love this store. I like to fix things myself although Im not ultra handy. The employees will not only direct me to what items I think I need but will also help me adjust my projects to make them easier! They have advice and tips and one time a guy even told me how to solve my problem with tools I already owned. Amazing customer service! Great sales and seasonal items too!!

I love these guys (and gals). They are the go-to hardware store in the area; some of the staff have been there for the 17 years Ive been a customer. They will take the time to show you how to do just about anything, and its a great place to get windows glazed and rent equipment. Even local contractors buy there.

Im a contractor and Im in there all the time. All hardware stores can be frustrating, but Maine Hardware has done a very good job of staying relevant against the big box home improvement stores. Its right in town, quick and easy. The staff is almost always excellent
