They pay hardly anything for books, CDs and DVDs - even recent hits or classics. If you have very new hit blu-rays or Criterion Collection or rare or out of print stuff, they might pay $5-10. You might as well give anything else to a thrift shop or library or sell online. Maybe go to Book & Music Exchange, which has a much bigger blu-ray selection. I like the atmosphere of Half Price Books better and they take every thing you bring in usually - unless its heavily worn, moldy or water damaged. But they pay pennies on the dollar for most discs & books, even things they are selling or have sold for $4-5 or more on shelf. I prefer the Westport Rd store and find they usually pay more (so do a couple of my friends). It is a good idea to check online to see what you can get from places like Amazon and AbundaTrade (and others) for used media and refuse any HPB offer for less. Online sellers pay for shipping on large enough trades like $35-50 and even if they only pay $1 for a CD or movie its probably more than HPB pays, with some rare exceptions for out of print titles that may bring more at HPB. Do your home work before you sell, ask what they are paying for EACH item if they try to low-ball you, and be ready to walk out if there are better offers online. Take care of your stuff, too, and you will get the best deal. Nobody wants discs scratched up that might not play smoothly. HPB is usually as cheap as the lowest Amazon seller (with shipping), but there are exceptions there too.

"I tried to sell them a brand new, never used Best-Seller that was in their store for $10" .... The 10 dollar one they were selling WAS brand new from the publishing company, they usually give you 25% off of brand new items. They cant tell that you have never red the book, unless it was wrapped in plastic and not opened. A lot of people ( me included ) can read a book and not damage the spine. I find it funny that you expect them to sell a book for 7 bucks, and offer you, what? 5 for it? That wouldnt be enough for them to keep the book that might not sell in their inventory, let alone pay their employees to catalog the books, shelf them, and run a cash register. Not to mention the fact that they may have to mark it down on clearance eventually. Then they paid you 50 cents for something they will sell for 2 bucks. How is that 95% return? They are gambling on what they buy from you. If you expect to get a lot for trade-in merch, then you should try to sell it yourself. But if you dont want to waste your time which would also be valuable, then you go here. Geez, its almost like they are a business. Its called craigslist. Sell things on there. Do the work and you WILL get a lot of the money you spent on it back, but dont expect to go to a place that sells books for half price or less and expect them you give you half of what its worth.

I love this place. Usually I just buy videogames and not books or movies because. I mean idk why people buy books when we have libraries. That might just be me being cheap tho. If libraries carried video games I would totally buy video games either. Then I wouldnt need selves in my apartment. Its a studio with limited space so that would be nice. I do buy some books. I say that if a book is over a thousand pages then I should just buy it because if Im going to spend that much time reading a book its okay to spend money on it. So I decided for my new years resolution to read Les mis which accordanne to Goodreads is 1064 pages. But all the half priced books had was an abridged copy that was around 200 pages. Disappointing. So I bought Moby Dick instead. It was chill but like I didnt need to know all that gross stuff about the biology of whales.

While shopping and spending money, husband and brother buying books and I was buying dvd for my baby daughter. We got ran off by some guy with red hair and glasses. He walked back to dvds, put his hands on his hips and said "it is 8 o clock, we are closed, you need to get your things and go, now!" And stood there and starred us down until we left. He was absolutly rude and we are never spending our money there again. You need to look into who you hire and make sure they know the proper way to treat a paying customer.

Just dont go there. I find myself huddled in a corner scared every time Ive gone here. Take everything about hipster culture that makes you throw up a little in your month and then beat it half to death with meth and slap a door to the front of it and you have Half Price Books. You remember that Seinfeld episode where George takes a book into the bathroom and its been flagged? Im guessing thats where the other half of the price went on these books. They were found in a meth lab bathroom, only explanation Ive got.

This is my FAVORITE spot to relax. The team that works here have always been fabulous to me and my four legged daughter, (shes a Chihuahua that thinks shes human.) And they are always there to help with anything you need. Hell sometimes I just go in to get away from the rest of the world, my version of an inexpensive staycation. Anyway, I cant say enough about THIS Half Price Bookstore because the team here is PRICELESS! Keep up the great work yall!

They are a really great bookstore that has a lot great things. They have more than books. I love to go shopping there. The only thing that I dont like about the store is the sell part. U can sell your books and much more there and they dont even give u a decent price. I know they gotta resell them but its a rip off. Only on that aspect of the store. But everything else is great there.

Incredible selection and insanely great prices. Ive been to many bookstores across many states and none of them compare to Half Price books. You dont get the small village cozy bookstore atmosphere, but it more than makes up for it with selection and quantity. My only complaint is that the stores are usually packed, bit that is simply a sign of a great business!

It is a waste of time to bring anything to sell here. The average wait time is 45 minutes to an hour, and you have to stay inside the store the entire time. At the end of the wait, they either FINALLY tell you they cant accept items or pay you 5-10% of market price. Seriously, I brought in 200 books in excellent condition once and was paid $15.

Great selection. Books are a little overpriced and they pay you pennies on the dollar for your stuff then resell it at astronomical prices. Worse, the employees act like they are on the set of Empire Records. Newsflash: you are not local movie stars, you are just low level wage slaves, lose the attitude. Not worth the trip.

7/16/17 like to read a lot well sometimes LOL but half price books is an affordable way to do that so I come in here and look around for my favorite authors, plus sometimes I find a good DVD to they have really good prices on them also and being the geek that I am they have things in here that might appeal to that too.
