I generally like the idea of a second hand local game shop. For the most part this place does it, "OK", I suppose. If youre hardcore into older titles then should work out for you if you dont care about how much youre going to spend once you see something you absolutely have to have. In my case, Ive been a manager in the service industry for several years, and I put customer service and politeness pretty high up on the list as far as tools for return business. Hell, even if the customer came to my store and wasnt satisfied, I know theres still a chance theyll come back because of how I made them feel while they were there. Ive been to this store, probably 3 times. The first two times I purchased a few older games for my wife to play on her PS2. There was a young man behind the counter who was friendly and very polite which I always appreciate. Sadly the next time I came in while my wife was at an appointment near by it was the opposite. A young lady behind the counter barely greeted me when I came in and seemed she couldnt care less if I was there. I looked around for a bit, not with anything in particular to purchase but not to just to look either, Id buy it if I saw kinda thing. I dont remember the exact question I asked the lady behind the counter, but it was referring to something in question if they had it in stock(I remember it not being something rare or hard to find, I think it was Max Payne 2). She looked at me with a somewhat disgusted glare, inched over to the computer and typed in to what I assume an inventory spreadsheet and after about 45 seconds replied "Nope." At that point she didnt bother to ask if I was looking for anything else or suggest when they might have it in the future. She simply went back to whatever it was she was doing as before, leaving me as the customer feeling uncomfortable and frustrated, not because they didnt have what I wanted, but due to the apathy to the whole transaction. I left a few minutes later. I wont go back to this store because of this, although they do have decent stock (again if you dont mind paying the inflated price), I was so offended by that whole interaction that I bypass going there even when I know theyll have something I need. I dont know if this same person still works there, but I hope not. For the sake of the business.

As far as I know, Game King is the only "game" in town where you can get your scratched video game discs professionally resurfaced. Especially if you have older games from discontinued game consoles. I had a game for the original Xbox that wouldnt load up on my Xbox 360. And according to Microsoft, my game was on the backward compatibility list for original Xbox games. There were some scratches on the disc and I thought that was the reason why it wouldnt load past the "All Rights Received" screen. I called three different places today and they couldnt help me. Gamestop doesnt do it. I called another indie game store and they were planning to do that in the future. And one popular local movie rental place (which will go unnamed) explained that they dont do Xbox games..... Ok, thats a little suspect considering all media discs are relatively the same when it comes to resurfacing. Its possible that clerk was messing with me. To my surprise Game King does disc resurfacing when I called! And they do same day service for $3.00. So no long 1-week wait. I showed up, they worked on it for five minutes and the scratches were gone. The nice clerk attempted to test it out on their Xbox 360 before I left, but there was a technical issue where they needed to download an update for their 360, or they needed a hard drive version in order to play an original Xbox game. So with that, they told me there was no charge. I appreciated their efforts so I bought a Batman fridge magnet for $4.19. And told them I would write up a positive review for them anyway. Unfortunately the game still doesnt load up past the All Rights Received screen when I got home to test it out on the 360. Clearly its an technical issue with one of Microsofts updates after doing some research on this matter involving my particular game. I might have to buy an original Xbox console.

I was trying to clean up my house and I decided to take my games to Game Stop. I wanted to give them away, wasnt even expecting any money. Well on my way there, I noticed Game King in Eastland Shopping Centre. I stopped in on 12/13/14 at about noon ready to just hand off a box of SNES, Genesis, and PS2 games, but the attendant convinced me I had some things of value so I stayed. He was friendly and knowledgeable. He had to be, because the computer he was using to ring me up was so slow that he had no choice but to BS around with me in between scanning items. It was ridiculous how long it took. I felt bad for the guy, because it was totally out of his control. He apologized repeatedly, but I knew it wasnt his fault. I felt embarrassed for him. It was fun to walk around and get hit with so much nostalgia. It seems like a great store and the prices are comparable to what you would see on ebay. This review would be 5 stars if the ownership of this company would put forth the effort to get a better point of sale/computer system. The amount of money you spend on a decent computer will be made back by making your employees more efficient and giving your customers a faster experience.

I think these previous reviews have some truth to them but may also be slightly harsh or even overzealous. Game King has an astounding amount of classic titles for the NES, SNES, SEGA, N64 and various other retro-platforms. The shop is cool and if anything is fun to look around in. As far as price goes, the games are towards the higher end but are not unthinkable considering the rarity of the titles and convenience of being able to pick them up in town. You would pay the difference of what youd save having it shipped to you online and you dont have to wait for it. I recently picked up a power adapter that was designed with three ends to fit the NES SNES and SEGA GEN for $13.00, not bad. The customer service that I experienced was average. I wouldnt say that anyone was difficult or rude. They werent particularly nice, but no one went out of their way to cause me any problems. Just a simple transaction. Answered all of my questions. Location could be better, but as the shop is locally owned, Im sure finance is concerning, much like it is to us customers complaining about the price of games. All-in-All, 4/5 Stars. At least check the place out.

Good selection of retro games. Prices are on the high side, usually more than ebay but that is to be expected for a retail store with staff and bills to pay. If you look hard enough though you can find the occasional good deal. However if you are looking to get rid of some of your own games, do not bring them here. The amount they will offer you is insultingly low. I took a 3DO console with some games in the other day that I was looking to get rid of, along with a couple sega games that average $50+ on ebay, and for then entire lot they only offered my $37.50. They have a 3DO console in store they have priced at $179, and they would only offer me around $16 for mine. Games they would have sold for $50-$60 dollars they wouldnt even give me $5 for. I took the exact same items over to Half Price Books up the road who gave me $175 for the stuff Game King wouldnt even give me $40 for. So dont waste your time taking them anything you are looking to get rid of. I dont know how they ever get any new inventory with offers like that. So overall fine store to buy from, terrible store to sell to.
