This place is amazing! From the concept to the great nitrogen-infused ice cream in every flavor from normal to esoteric, like buttered popcorn, to local flavors like Wu Shock Sunflower and K-State grape. The staff are always super friendly and helpful and you are welcome to try before you buy, which has led me to end up purchasing flavors I never thought I would. Finally, the local vibe here is really strong and a core part of this place. Decorative artifacts from a now defunct, once beloved, local amusement park are a central part of the decor here. Would recommend anyone in Wichita to try them. Im not into coffee, so I dont know how good it is not the ice cream is definitely worth the visit!

Update February 2017: Came back after the store was expanded and renovated, got a chocolate scoop in a waffle cone. Texture seems much better this time around, no iciness. I still think it could be creamier, but much better than my original experience. Original review, some time in 2015: The namesake shake-like concoctions are pretty decent, but the ice cream by itself is icy and under-flavored. It dissolves in your mouth almost as soon as it hits the tongue. The website says they just use a milk base... no cream or eggs, or some kind of thickener? How do you make ice cream without a custard base?

My husband had buttered popcorn ice cream and I had a scoop of coffee & spice and one of cheesecake. My ice cream was not flavorful. The coffee & spice didnt taste like coffee nor was it spicy. My husband who HATES coffee even tried it and said it didnt taste like coffee. The cheesecake ice cream was very grainy. It looked like shards of feta cheese in the bottom of the cup. Not sure if maybe freshly made ice cream would be better than the stuff in the case but as this was our first visit, we didnt know that was an option.

The concept is awesome-I love the idea of ice cream and coffee in 1 place! However, the menu is really small and in a bad spot for customers to see. When it was my turn to order, I had to stare at the menu for 5 minutes to figure it out. No one explained to us about the options we had either so it was a confusing experience. The ice cream was okay but nothing to rave about. Theres a lot of potential here but they havent hit it yet.

Heard from a co-worker and his wife that they had a great experience here and watched the staff mix their items with the liquid nitrogen so I decided to make my kid one weekend. They didnt seem happy to be there, not busy at all, didnt hear anything about the mixing or the demos or how what they do is special, so we just got some $5 ice cream and a bum experience that you can get much cheaper elsewhere. No reason to come back

The old Joyland signs and atmosphere were cool, the staff was kind but not super knowledgeable...everyone was asking someone else how to do something etc. Newer business, not a big deal. The ice cream was okay, but the included toppings and add-on ingredients were rare in what we received. Oh, and the Italian cream sodas are super authentic. Club soda, and cream thats it. Perhaps my palette needs some adjusting...

I love that Churn & Burn offers ice cream (churn), coffee (burn), and espresso milkshakes (churn & burn)! The Snickers Surprise is excellent, as are their ice cream flavors. Favorites include balsamic strawberry, pistachio, dark chocolate. Intriguing flavors include KSU grape, The Elvis, and buttered popcorn. Sample a few before you decide! The Joyland decor adds whimsy to the environment. Definitely worth a trip!

I searched for "real ice cream Wichita" and found this place on the top. Never heard of them but the name was strangely nice so I went to give it a try. I love trying new things. While reading the labels I thought the dark chocolate was going to be the one I would get until I tried their shocker (might have the wrong name) which has sunflower seeds. The ice cream was fantastic and the coffee was great too.

I dont eat a lot of Ice Cream, but this is home made and not made by the normal method. They have interesting and sometimes unusual flavors. I appreciate the ingenuity. If you are looking for Baskin Robbins or a chain type atmosphere this is not your place. Staff has been friendly and knowledgeable each time Ive gone. The inside is cute and full of Joyland memorabilia. My husband goes there quite frequently.

If you havent tried Churn and Burn, what are you waiting for?! Owner and staff are amazing and friendly. Ice cream is so good, we usually go every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Our only complaint is that it is about 15 miles from home, but that doesnt stop us. Had a friend drive down from El Dorado just to get it. Seriously, its that good! I can see C&B being around Wichita for a loooong time!

Fairly good ice cream. I however think they should use a higher fat base. The freezing time using liquid nitrogen would increase, so i understand the cost from that perspective. Have you tried dry ice ice cream. Would work well for a frozen root beer float inspired inspired ice cream. It should add a carbonic acid flavot that resembles bubbly soda. #investment ideas lol

Second time visiting, but still not disappointed! A good variety of ice cream (churn) flavors, and wonderful "churn and burn" (coffee and ice cream mixed). Havent tried any of the straight coffee, but Im not much of a plain coffee fan. "Churn and burn" options are tastier and more economically priced than Starbucks :)

Great desserts! Everything here tastes amazing and the staff is always friendly. However, I dont like how I practically have to take out a loan every time I come here to afford their prices. Also for the price, you dont really get that much. Certainly worth the visit though, at least once if not twice in your life.

Stumbled across this hidden gem several months ago. Churn & Burns (cold coffee blened with homemade ice cream) are addictive, fantastically good. They are Frappuccinos on steroids. My complaint, they dont sell them by the bucket. Support local businesses, you wont be disappointed with this one.

Loved this place! I have to eat dairy free and gluten free and it is SO refreshing to find fresh ice cream that accommodates my allergies AND tastes great! The employees were knowledgeable and helpful regarding my dietary needs. The only drawback was that it was a little tough to find.

It was a great experience from the moment we walked in. Happy employees who took the time to explain how it all worked and to see what kind of a mood I was in so they could match what I should order. Do not miss this place and the coolness factor of seeing how they make it.

Great coffee and ice cream or combo selections. Cozy place with quick service despite a short wait due to its popularity. The price isnt terrible and the product is delicious. Fun and friendly atmosphere that is welcoming to both a college crowd and families at the same time.

Great service and even better ice cream. Also had a nice nostalgic atmosphere for anyone that grew up in Wichita while Joyland was operational. You owe it to yourself to check this place out, and dont forget to bring quarters for the arcade tables.
