I was a frequent customer at Caputos until one day when I went shopping with my kids (they are one and two years old) and I was confronted by the store manager about my child standing up in the basket of the cart. As he walked over to me, I was handling the situation, so there was no need for him to confront me. Then 10 minutes later, the same manager saw my son standing up again in the basket of the cart while I was standing right next to him trying to get him to sit in the cart he confronted me again and told me "if you cant control your child and make him sit then I will have to ask you to leave". I was horrified at the thought of being kicked out of the store because my two year old wont sit still. We werent doing anything wrong, my son had just stood up two times and was not causing anymore trouble then that. The manager was very rude and lacked any kind of compassion or empathy, and was not sincere what so ever. It is very unfortunate that this happened. As I said, I was a frequent customer who shopped there once a week since this store has opened. For all the moms out there who have to do shopping with two or more kids, you will be treated as second class citizens, BEWARE!

Went to the deli and purchased imported prosciutto that was sliced on top of each other without any paper between slices. Anybody who has purchased prosciutto knows the outcome of this.(they all get stuck and become unusable) And on the same day I ordered provolone cheese and was given mozzarella. So when I got home, I called the store and asked for a manager to tell him of this $20 problem. Like from a previous review that I read and mustve been the same manager, and His reply was "what do you want me to do about it" ? Really? You need to be told what to do? I just pissed away 20 dollars worth of deli product and you dont want to reimburse me? You have just Lost a loyal customer that has been since day one since Caputos opened. I will share this story with family, friends and anybody else who will listen. You need to go to Trader Joes see how well trained each and every employee who works there are. Now thats how was store should be run, unlike your store where the majority of your employees are slow, lazy, and offer you their bad attitude.

Calling it a Fruit Market is a stretch. Fruit is often undersized or rotten. Decent deli, some unique items, but overpriced on everything except the rotten fruit. I used to go there for a few specialty items or when I knew I absolutely had to find strawberries (even though most of the time if its out of season theyre stuff is just as rotten or worse than everywhere else). That was then, but now I tried to return a gallon of milk that I didnt realize was expired when I bought it and the unbelievably rude manager treated me as though I had devised an elaborate scheme to steal a gallon of milk, ultimately never giving a refund even WITH a receipt. So much for your neighborhood grocer, never again Joe. You can get friendlier service and often better fruit at Walmart. Guaranteed better at Jewel or Dominicks. If you do go there, check the expiration dates on anything perishable that you buy because they really dont care if they screw you (or your kids morning cereal) by their lazy mistakes and being perfectly happy to sell you rotten food.

Horrible customer service via telephone and in person! Called to inquire if they had a particular gluten free item, and I was put on hold for 10 minutes by a female employee. Finally another male employee answered the phone and said hed check. I was on hold for 8 more minutes, until a male employee and were and told me they have it in stock. I rive there and look all over for the item. Finally I spot someone who works there and they tell me that they dont have the item. I ask to see the manager and I wait 5 minutes till a manager shows up and I explain the whole story to him. His response is the worst I have ever received in my life from someone in sales/customer service..."What do you want me to do about that sir?" I asked to get some for of compensation for the employees error or just outright lie to me, and he responded, "Yeah we dont do that." I will never go there again and I will openly tell anyone I meet not to shop there!!! You lost a customer Caputo!!!

On October 12-2012 my short trip to Caputos in Palatine turned in to be a nightmare.I went to get six items checked out at the express check out and after getting home four out of my six items are missing.I called and the manager Dave did not want to give me the time at all.He claimed they need to watch the security tape I had my receipt and paid for the product.That night i went to talk to Dave to get my missing items and he refused to do so.He was screaming at me as he walked away.The next morning calling the store again the manager said he was going to look at the tape and call me.He did just to tell me that i had a cart with six bags and left the store.His story was wrong i held my six items walking to the register and never used a basket or cart.This is so upsetting to me a longtime honest customer.Never again i shop at Caputos.

I stopped by here with 1.1 pounds of bad veal loin chops I bought for my father the night before. Badly graded $11.99, badly cut; they should have NEVER been sold and the packaging hid the gristle and bad cut. "Charley" didnt even look at them, just said the bones were "heavy", (like Ive never bought veal chops before). Checkout staff IS very GOOD, friendly nice people. Customer satisfaction? Not, BAD parking, BADly lit, dangerous. DONT let your parents shop here if they are too nice to push back on bad cust service. This is why you go to places that will replace the occasional bad product with no questions asked, like Trader Jos, Dominics or Jewel. SAVE yourself. Go somewhere else and avoid an accident getting in or out of that place. "Charley sent me"! God Bless.

Used to be joe Caputo. The service and selection was superior. The deli counter people have no clue and dont care attitude. They piled prosciutto on top of each other, couldnt separate the slices. He cut me a piece of cheese that was the end and dry and puts it on scale without any sort of sheet, it was contaminated, got home and it was dirty from some red sauce, disgusting. And the mortodela, I bit into it and it had the plastic wrapper in mouth that he never took off!!! I should sue this place. The old awesome selection of cheese is cut down, the old awesome selection of deli is also cut down. Too bad, used to love going to this place but new owners are breaking it apart. Time to look for a better location.

For what I get, I cant complain. I consider this a bit of an underappreciated gem, after looking at other reviews. The store expended in the past couple of years to improve product selection. I dont go here for packaged goods, but I always find Caputos has a good selection of produce, meats and deli at a reasonable price. Actually, the deli meat prices are remarkably low compared to other major grocery chains. Service could be a tad better, but Ive never had an with anyone there. Typically, staff are willing to help you find you need.
