I am a U.S. Special Operations Veteran that also lives and serves the community in the area. I lost my 18 year old son killed 15 years ago as well and we decided to visit Avalon today 9/11/16 with my adult children and grand children for lunch at Teds Montana Grill and take my grandson on a joy ride on the Small train around the business area and hopefully just enjoy a peaceful day with no trouble, and no terror. As I have for the majority of my life and my career, I carried my properly and lawfully licensed weapon with me to serve and protect others from harm, and to possibly prevent lives from being lost just because they are easy targets or sitting ducks in the perfect crowded venue and forum today for such a sick a twisted mind that a terrorist possesses same as they did in 2001. After a nice lunch and leisurely stroll to the train, we had nice conversation with the conductor who had no customers at the time and found out he was also a veteran, and I paid him for each adult family member plus the baby.....which he tried to refund, however I insisted he keep the fare, as that was only fair. Suddenly, as we were boarding the little train we are interrupted and confronted by two of Avalons Security Guards ordering us to leave the property stating "They do not allow guns on the property". The security guards asked no further questions, asked for no explanations, nothing, just leave. The train conductor then asked me, Sir you are carrying a weapon for your protection arent you? I responded: Sir, I do not carry this weapon for myself really, I am carrying this weapon to save the innocent lives of those that do not deserve to die at the hands of anyone committing any kind of a senseless terroristic act. But if Avalon does not want me and my weapon here, or appreciate the fact that plenty before me have made it possible for them to have this place here on this soil because of a lawful weapon, and in the future to be able to keep this place here because of a lawful weapon, then I and my family will leave and never come back, because that is not Patriotism, and it stomps all over my constitutional right as a law abiding American Citizen The train conductor told the 2 security guards "I am driving these people to their cars in my train", and then he did. And at the drop off point, he shook my hand and thanked me for my service. Now.....None of our family (5 households) will ever be back, and You can bet this is a story we will not get tired of telling for a long long time around this 2,600 home neighborhood we live in. My letter reporting same goes to the NRA tomorrow.....plan to spread thru friends and Social media, any other way possible, people need to be informed. See you later Avalon....you dont need anyone that believes in the 2nd Ammendmend of the Constitutions business, and you dont deserve it!!!! It required 1 Star to post anything but Avalon didnt deserve that. The Train Conductor deserved 5 Stars!!!! God Bless the U.S.A. and the people and their families that sacrificed and fought and died so we could enjoy the freedom of this great land.

Park for free, at a meter on street, or two valet stands are available. I love to walk around, Google one of the ~24 fine restaurants, relax in one of the many seating areas, enjoy the large fountain, go to a couple of the 60+ upscale shops, visit the huge Whole Food grocery, exercise on the one mile+ walking areas, see a movie, bring my dog- it is dog friendly everywhere with dog parks included, dog water bowls in front of shops, a family lounge, childs play area, good security, seasonal ice skating, Christmas lights and train. You can carry drinks (alcohol included), in plastic, anywhere on property. Restaurants have drinks to go!! Go to CRU Food & Wine or (depending where you park) Branch and Barrel for a drink to go; then Kona Grill for a smoked salmon shusi appetizer; for an entree, onward to The El Felix (so good); Colletta Italian; or Oak Steak House; and then have desert and coffee at Cafe Intermizzo!! Teds Montana Grill, Bocado Burger, Farm to Ladle, Marlows Tavern, Goldbergs Deli get honerable mention. New restaurants coming in April 2017. NOTE: Sass suggests you drive around the property first to window shop and get your bearings. You can even live here. Fun place.

I have come here dozens of times since December of 2014. I am always impressed. They have an awesome selection of stores, such as Orvis, Columbia, Free People, American Threads, J Crew, KSO, ETC. While the stores are expensive, they sell the upper end merchandise of the companies they have there. The Regal Cinema there is very high quality. I went for the first time in June to see The Shallows. My siblings have been ice skating in the rink they have in the center during the winter season, and it looks fun! They have fireplaces in the center as well for the public to heat up with during the winter season. They have a TESLA dealership that is designed to such an exemplary level. I was impressed with this small dealership they showcase there. My father is a friend of the owner of Anticos Pizza, and I have been various times. The pizza is amazing! It is cooked with a real stone Italian oven. It has a community setting with long tables. I have also cleaned an apartment up at the top, and they are nicely built. This is a great place! It is the nicer version of Vickery Village in Cumming, GA.
