Be careful with their service department. I purchased an SUV here a few years ago. Shortly after buying it the subwoofer and dashboard lights burned out, both were separate occasions. What ever, things break and it was still under warranty. I looked up the repair prior to the service and used identical bulbs out of my other car to diagnose/confirm the issue. The part of the dash came out with four easily accessible phillips screws and the two bulbs cost about $5 each. The entire process takes 5 minutes if youre going slow. I didnt feel like the bulbs out of pocket so I let the tech replace it. I scheduled an appointment to get my dash lights replaced. I thought it would have been a 30 minute repair, tops. Two hours later the service associate came back saying that the entire cluster had to be replaced. I got in the car and saw that it worked... but the "new" cluster had the same exact coffee stain on it that my original one did. CarMax ended up subletting the work to an outside vendor that charged them a few hundred dollars for a $10 repair. That sucks for CarMax, but I wasnt affected by this. However, it does show some serious ethical issues along with awful integrity by their hired workers. What REALLY bothered me was the subwoofer repair. The same tech worked on my subwoofer. He replaced it and it worked for a few years. Last week it stopped working again. Today I decided to diagnose it since the car is now out of warranty. I started to take off the panel inside the cargo area and the whole thing fell off. The tech ended up breaking off the mounting tabs and glued the whole thing back on with epoxy that is next to impossible to remove from the mounting points on the car. Even if I got a new panel, I wouldnt be able to install it because the mounting points are packed with rock hard epoxy. Not only that, the wires to the subwoofer were poorly twisted together with duct tape wrapped around for insulation. The wires on the subwoofer were old and beat up, so was the subwoofer, meaning I got a used sub installed as a replacement. No wonder it failed so soon. The work that came out of that service department is unacceptable. I worked in a CarMax service department (at a different location) for 5 years before changing careers. This kind of pathetic work would have never been given to the customer. Either this specific location has awful standards, or the entire company has changed since Ive worked there. Its really disappointing. The buying experience was okay. The only issues that came up were due to the fact that I needed to register it in another state, none of the hassle was the fault of CarMax. The sales associate was very friendly and helpful. She went out of the way to make sure the car I saw online at a different location would be available for me to see despite my unpredictable schedule. She went above and beyond to help me out. I should also mention that they make the same amount of commission regardless of which car they sell you, so theyre not pushed to sell one car instead of another.

Buying the car was the easy part at this location. But the misleading information made my experience horrible. I bought a 2011 ford focus it was great it worked perfect but my 30 day warranty was almost up when the Bluetooth malfunctioned. I took it in and decided I was going to get the extended warranty. At which point I was told that I could not get the extended warranty because I did not buy it at the time of purchase- although I was told by the sales associate (Miranda) that I could elect to get the extended warranty at any time during the first 30 days. In addition I had been to car max the night before and had spoken to Miranda about the bluetooth problem and the possibility of getting the warranty. She told me I could get it and took me to her office but then I noticed I had forgotten my checkbook at home. She told me to come back tomorrow and the assistant manager would get me the warranty. So here i am in disbelief that I cannot get the warranty and super pissed that I had been lied to. I talked to the Assistant manager Mike who was rude towards me so i asked to see the manager. When Mike went to get the manager he was in a meeting and could not be bothered to come out and help me. I had to go home and make another trip once the meeting was over. Once i finally got to talk to the manager he was also rude and told me that he could not do it. I told him what my sales associate had said to me and asked him to honor it but he refused. He even started to yell at me when i insisted that he give me the warranty. IF YOU WANT A USED CAR DO NOT GO TO CARMAX ALL THEY WANT IS YOUR MONEY AND AFTER THAT THEY DO NOT CARE WHAT HAPPENS TO YOU.

The dealership is impressively big and efficiently run. My first experience with CARmax. I was getting an appraisal on a CR-V and was on my last day in Florida helping my daughter out. I waited about an hour for the appraisal in a comfortable waiting space. Their WIFI was not accessible for some reason. Offer on the car was a fair offer. The agent, Jim?. was a little rushed to leave on his motorcycle and said ALLmy daughter had to do was show up with a title only. I questioned him twice and he assured me this was all that was needed for transaction. The next day, however, they surprisedly asked for registration, also, which she was not prepared for. I had specifically asked if a title was the ONLY thing needed. Fortunately she was able to find it but this could have ended up a complicated transaction with many trips if luckily she hadnt kept the papers in the other car. I had tried to have her put everything in her apt. before we left for CARMAX. This could have been disastrous with the time constraints we hAD. Also the turn-in process took hours not the 30 minutes I was quoted. Also, we werent informed that the payment is a check that cant be cashed but only deposited and her only account is in NY. Just a little more info would have been helpful to make things very much smoother. Bottom line is the trade-in price was fair but the sales person /customer i interaction needed to be more thorough. The little things are important!

DO NOT BUY FROM HERE! They hide defects, and then sell a warranty that doesnt even pay to fix stuff!!! I bought a used Toyota Sienna and I gave them 5 stars. Even bought the extended warranty. I have taken the car only to, and often to the Toyota dealership to keep the vehicle running in its best possible performance. I took the car in to the official Toyota dealership on Thursday to get it checked out because I thought it was making a funny noise and I was going across the state to fort Myers with my family on vacation. they gave me the all clear said the cars great, couldnt find anything wrong with it and then while with my parents and my wife and two small kids in the car I start to see smoke pouring out the back! I pulled over, had to get a cab for my family, have the car towed!! And then then the dealership tech is asking me about some kind of sludge in the radiator??? Have I ever put anything in there, any kind of chemical. I dont play mechanic, I never venture under the hood. So this had to have been done when I bought the vehicle. Here is the kicker!!! The extended warranty that I paid a few grand for, says they wont cover this!!!??? What? Bottom line, buyer be where, dont buy from here unless you want a 1600 repair bill on a car that your warranty wont cover. Looks like carmax, did some shady stuff with this vehicle. OR looks like they sell some BS warranty that covers "everything" except this and that because of some BS. Josh Darville
