I have frequented Home Depot throughout the years for various remodeling projects. Over the long weekend, I had agreed to help my Brother paint some of the rooms in his new home. I went to the Home Depot on Rhode Island Avenue in DC because it was the closest to his house. We had chosen a particular color made from a paint manufacturer called Lovo. I had brought a sample color swatch to the store, with the expectation that the person in the paint department would be able to either look up the color code, or match the color that was on the swatch using their paint matching system. Over the past five or more years that I have purchased paint at Home Depot, their matching system has been correct about 8 out of 10 times. Since they have not been able to match to the exact color 100% of the time, I have been accustomed to request a secondary visual match of the color that they just mixed against the swatch color. In this instance, upon the secondary visual inspection, the color that they had mixed was way different than the swatch color. The Paint Department Employee told me that the paint matching system has about a 95% accuracy rate, and that quite frankly, this was the best that they could do. Usually, from my experience of purchasing paint over the years, paint store employees will at least attempt to adjust the color in order to obtain a better match. My guess is that this employee was not happy by the fact that I didn’t buy the two gallons of paint that ended up being the wrong color- that HE MATCHED. So for that reason, he did not want to do anything to fix the problem that he created. I’m giving a 1 star for this Home Depot, because of the fact that I seriously doubt this is the policy of Home Depot’s Paint Department. I ended up driving clear across to Alexandria Virginia, where the paint employees there were able to provide a perfect match for my paint swatch.

Wow! My experience at this Home Depot seems to have been vastly different than previous reviewers. Granted, I did not try to shop there on the weekend, so that may have been a major factor in my positive experience, and I am merely a homeowner trying to make some minor repairs around the house rather than a professional on a job. I will say that there seemed to be many contractors there, though, and there plenty of employees there to help locate things. The parking lot was pretty full when I arrived around 1:45 PM on a Friday, and I was in and out within 45 minutes. I even opted to have a cashier assist me with my purchase rather than use the self-serve registers. My cashier seemed happy and even paid attention when I pointed out that there was a piece of metal flashing that was sticking out near the register that needed some attention before someone got hurt. Overall, I dealt with about eight Home Depot Employees (I even got asked twice if I needed help locating something when I looked a bit lost) and it was a positive experience. It seems that the management and employees at this store have paid attention to the negative reviews and made some changes. I am happy to know this since this Home Depot is the closest one to my house.

The home depot on Rhode Island fails on almost every single aspect of what SHOULD make home depot great. Aisle workers were NOT knowledgeable about the tools/equipment in their own store. I attempted to describe a relatively common product to someone who was manning the aisle and they merely said no we dont carry that -- I found it 5 seconds later 2 ft away from them. Unfortunately this wasnt the first time either -- multiple assistants didnt know any differentiation between products or exact locations of their products. The next largest issue -- staff were always hard to find. But when you found them, they were bunched up in groups of 4 or more. Good luck finding someone to custom cut your lumber too -- that was a whole new level of hell. Finally product selection -- this home depot severely lacks the product selection of various other home depots I have visited. This one chose to carry only the bare necessities and left everything else up to online purchases. The one saving grace I had was with a VERY helpful assistant (one out of a sea of man unfortunately) who knew what he was talking about, and did successfully guide me to what I needed. TLDR; go to lowes

I called with a simple question: Do you have Trex 2 x 4 in stock in 12 foot lengths. I called Monday, September 27, at 5 pm. The nice woman answering the phone transferred me to lumber. She had to come back on the line several times as "the lumber department" did not pick up. Then she decided to transfer me to contractors instead, just so I could get my answer. Someone did pick up in "the contractors department," and told me I had to talk to lumber. The original operator came back on the line a couple more times, and finally suggested I talk to a manager. I waited a few more minutes for a manager (Dave or Roger) to come on. No luck. She said shed go to the managers office and ask a manager to go to lumber to make them pick up the phone. Ha ha ha. No one picked up the phone. Finally she came back on and decided she would try to find out the answer herself. No luck. I hung on to the bitter end, just to see how this would all play out. I finally I told the nice operator that I would have to hang up, at 5:50 pm, 50 minutes after I first called. What a zoo! What a bunch of clowns.

Let me preface this review with one thing: If you know exactly what you want and know how to get to it before walking in this store without talking to a person, youre going to walk away with a great experience. If you need any assistance beyond that, youll be severely disappointed. I went in to buy a picnic table, but needed it delivered. I was directed to three different registers, waiting at least 7 minutes at each one, before finally being told I needed to go over to the truck department on the other side of the store to see if a truck was available. I asked if the woman could just call that department, and she begrudgingly obliged. I am on the phone with them right now, trying to get this picnic table delivery rescheduled. A man picked up the phone and I told him what I needed. I was then put on hold, and have now been on hold for 10 minutes. I cannot overstate how poorly run this Home Depot is. Ive been to several different Home Depots across the country, and have generally walked away with a pleasant experience. This store, however, fails spectacularly.

I had looked online and found the Grill that I wanted. I called HomeDepot and they confirmed by the SKU number they had 6 in stock. When I arrived at the store some 30min later they only had 4. 2 of which were obviously been returned and two that were assembled, poorly (one that was outside with bird $hit on it). After walking around the store with Maurice trying to find the other 2 he called over the manager Everold. The 3 of us walked back over to the 1(damaged) box that was on the shelf and before I knew it was offered a discount on the next model up..Yeah, I asked for the discount but Everold agreed to it without a fight. It was a 5 burner (the other was 4) that I couldnt say no to. The two guys got it on a cart and I wheeled it out to my car. Im about to set it up... lets hope all goes well. (almost a month later) * I love this grill. My girlfriend and I use it almost every night and I cant thank those guys at Home Depot enough for taking care of me."
