So I went to to the Shrewsbury store and bought a new chain for my chainsaw. When I went to the parts counter the guy at the desk looked it up on the computer and handed me a chain. I brought it home and put it on my saw. When I did my saw kept binding up, so I took the saw to my repair shop to which I was informed I was given the wrong chain. So I called the store and explained what had happened. The man I spoke with told me to bring the chain back and they would take care of it. I had also informed him that I didnt have the receipt and I had thrown the box away ( figuring that I had been given the right chain I threw the box away). So when I got to the store to return it the manager had a fit. He went and pulled up the receipt on the computer and exclaimed " what am I supposed to do with this chain, it has burrs on it. I cant sell this now." I explained that I was never asked any detail and honestly didnt really know that there was a difference. I assumed the guy that gave me the chain knew which one to give me. So long story short the manager Brad came back after he found the receipt and told me " if I was you I would just take the chain and leave, the more I hear about this the more mad I get." So again I tried explaining to him what had happened at which point he told me "just take the chain and leave." So I just left. I will never go there again. I can get my parts elsewhere from now on.

I originally contacted True Value, Shrewsbury, on April 17th. I explained what type of lawn mower I had, that the blade would need replaced, and that Id like them to do general maintenance while it was in there (oil change and the like). I dropped my mower off on April 19th, knowing they wouldnt get to it until April 24th. On April 24th they called with an estimate which included a new carbourator. I told them no, my mower was running fine when I dropped it off. Skip ahead to May 5th. I call the mechanic to ask when it will be done (this is probably the third time Ive called over the past 11 days.) He says that he just got the blade yesterday, but hes swamped and may not get to the mower until May 7th. I ask to talk to his manager. Within 20 minutes the manager called me back and told me that my mower was ready. When I picked the mower up, I explained my disappointment to the manager. I was unhappy that after having my mower for 11 days, a 15 minute repair was so low on the priority list. He asked me to include in this review that the manufacture doesnt service their own mower and that its difficult to get parts. That said, I have a Troy Bilt push mower.

I read 2 or 3 reviews and noticed the owner responded to one. From my experiences with Shrewsbury True Value, this seems like an " of course he would" experience. On my first visit to the store, I was in my truck in the parking lot looking for the place to buy barn siding. Near me was an employee standing in the middle of the lot talking to another on a fork lift. I asked them if I was in their way and if so where I need to go. They said " oh no, you are in just the right place, WE are here for you," Then they proceeded to ask what I needed and took me to where the barn siding was stored, promptly and took 100% care of me. Every other trip, I have had nothing but stellar service as well, whether it be for riding mower parts, propane refills or any other need. Thanks very much.

Family-owned, local hardware store. They have a great supply of hardware, gardening supplies and even patio furniture & grills. Employees are friendly and helpful with your DIY projects. Weve been coming to this store for years and always come here first - we only head to Home Depot if the hardware store doesnt have what we need. True Value can repair window screens, help you match paint, and they have a nice selection of party rentals incl. games & bounce houses. True Value also supports it local community and non-profit organizations! They are a fabulous member of the SYC community.

This hardware store has been around for many years. I have patronized it since 1980. The help is usually excellent. The prices are normal and they have things that you cant find elsewhere. With the advent of Home Depot, Lowes etc., its hard to find a real hardware store. These people do a very good job and provide a necessary alternative to the big guys. When I read those other reviews, I thought about how cruel and inaccurate the web based reviews can be. So let me give the True Value a general grade of B+. Im sure a few customers are unsatisfied, but thats always going to happen.

DO NOT BRING ANYTHING HERE TO BE SERVICED!!!! EVER! Probably the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I brought in a chainsaw to be serviced, they charged me $45 to look at it. When I dropped it off it worked, they wanted to charge me over $200 to fix it. $60 an hour for their service guy to work on it. I requested them to put it back together, and put it back in the same condition I brought it in. Instead I was handed a box full of parts that used to be my chainsaw. Now I am out one working chainsaw, with over 7 trees down, and $45. Worst experience ever.

Id give it 4.5 stars if I could, some of the employees are very knowledgeable and helpful (lawn care/plant dept., Paint dept., Lumber/supplies/hardware dept., plumbing dept., I havent personally experienced their small engines service dept but I dont know if I ever will. The selection and prices are usually comparable to Home Depot right next to them, I like the the atmosphere and they usually have a Christian radio station playing. My only real issue is the selection of items in general, its a small business so it is to be expected.

Best "retail" selection of Hardware in York County! Metric, Specialty, LARGER sizes in SAE & Metric. They have lots of other stuff too. If you spend your weekends DIY, you have to check this place out.
